Does ballbag actually have a problem with Utd or the English. Can't workout if he's just bias towards pep and the Spanish or if he actually doesn't like us for some reason. Or maybe he's just a cnut plain and simple

He is barcelona born, likes liverpool and a massive cnut.

RVP was ponderous, Sanchez is lean and athletic, he'll be good for another 5-6 years easily and be value for whatever money we pay,in my opinion.
5-6 years easily? Physique is one of Sanchez’ most prominent assets and it’s a major reason why he’s so good. Players who rely on their physical abilities tend to decline earlier than those who do not. The truth is we don’t know when Sanchez is going to lose his explosiveness, but when he does, he’s going to decline quite rapidly. To claim that he’s going to last 5-6 years, easily, at the level he is performing at right now is just nonsense imo.

Seems a convenient excuse. He never recovered his form at all under different managers. To be honest he wasn’t even great in the second half of the title winning season.

I think joined us dreaming of winning continuous league titles under SAF only to get hit by a managerial change and the team entering a transitional phase under an incompetent manager as Moyes. I agree that he was terrible in his last season but I think he lost the desire to play and win anymore after SAF shock retiring.

Anyway, players don't always decline at the same age. Just because RVP declined at his 31 doesn't mean Sanchez or any other player will be the same. Think Sanchez can at least give us 2.5 years which will be more than enough.

This is the same guy that went on a City podcast yesterday basically claiming it was done and he was off to city.

Not read all 3658 posts, but has anybody mentioned they don't want United to pay £25m+ for him because at 29 he'd have no resale value ?

Trying to imagine what transfer fees might be like in say 4 years at the end of Sanchez's next contract expiring.
I dare say £25m would be the price of a league 1 striker :)

Pro gambler? Any idea what sort of money he makes? Do people actually live off winnings? Usual wisdom is it's not very likely.
He makes a lot. I don’t know actual figures but he’s a millionaire off of it. He’s increased his wagers every season, last time we talked about it he was betting £25k per match on up to 4 matches a weekend. He won’t bet on a game unless the bookies have been generous, according to his statistics though. He’s betting that much that he has to gamble on the Chinese market now because he’s barred from almost all English bookies.

The betting market only swings when major sums are placed in a short amount of time. I’ve got a mate who’s a professional gambler and he bets silly amounts when he spots the bookies have been generous with their odds. They very quickly bring the numbers down after he’s taken full advantage of it.

If they’re changing their odds it’s because they’re worried someone knows something they don’t.
Ah, so do you think someones placed a huge amount of Sanchez to UTD for them to change odds and be suspicious?

When did turning 29 mean old. Almost laughable the way some of you bang on about age.
Fact is that most footballers decline drastically in their thirties. Alexis may only have 2-3 peak years left.

It's poker like most transfers. Preference is one thing but things can change very quickly. City want him but don't need him, and that makes a difference. They offered 60m only months ago and now they aren't prepared to pay half? Like I said earlier, the city landscape was very different then with uncertainty about players like Sterling but now those are completely irrelevant. The deal doesn't look the same now and will look even less in a World Cup summer. Utd have a massive chance to sign him as it's a perfect fit and the chance for him to end his career wearing one of the most famous number 7 shirts in the world....

why would we care about weakening arsenal, the top 4 race? He is leaving arsenal either way. I see the point about weakening city but if we pay him enormous wages and he starts to want to leave if it becomes clear we aren't going to win the title this time next year then we have blocked the transfer of a young hungry player. Just would prefer us to spend the money on someone new and exciting like dybala not just someone old hat to try get one over on city.

Sanchez does not rule out Dybala, I actually think signing world class players is the best way to entice world class players. That being said, we aren't heavily linked with Dybala and he'd cost somewhere around 120-150m (given the Coutinho fee).

All world class players (and Dybala is not some up and coming young player) demand world class wages.

That's a big hypothetical, that Sanchez would want to leave this time next year if we are not fighting for the title.

What outstanding young players that fit within our budget were you thinking of?

Would easily get 3 and a half good seasons out him I think so it would be well worth it. Age has no place in this debate considering the price.

Would prefer Lucas Moura. This guy is very overrated and also clearly a mercenary.

I don't understand it I really don't, but it's crept in more and more over the last few years with some United fans, it was the same with Matic, £40m is too much for a 29 year old because we'll never get our money back....

Potential CEO's the lot of em'

I'm the complete opposite. Alexis, at his best, is the best player in the league in my opinion, and I've never took to Lucas despite watching plenty of PSG.

Yeah, that’s what I would think has happened. Players themselves can’t gamble, it’s illegal but there’s nothing to say that friends and family can’t.

If you were close enough to a player to know that he fancies a move to a team the bookies have got good odds on, you’d easily dump a massive amount of money on it. That’s when the bookies get suspicious. No one in their right mind would dump £20k on Sanchez joining United if he’d already agreed to sign for City.

It happened when we signed Michael Owen. There were amazing odds on him signing for us, then all of a sudden it was favourite a few hours before he actually signed. A few people must have put silly amounts of cash down for them to turn around that fast.

They seem to forget the biggest clubs do not need to sell players on.

Funny that when Lucas joined PSG ahead of us for the money on offer he was here mercenary then...

Used to work with a girl whose sister is married to an ex top Premier league player who has become a manager.

She was never quite quick enough to give us any scoops pre the press getting hold of them though

Rooney was a case of lots of milage in a body not looked well after.

Torres was a case of lost pace after a serious injury and mental issues on top of that in adapting to the lost pace.

RvP was tons of injuries taking a toll and terrible managers coming in after the guy he signed to play under surprisingly left.

I agree with those saying that due to Sanchez main asset being physical, he'll likely have a steep decline.
I however think it's hard to say he'll last for 3-6 years as we never know when he'll lose it and if he'll be able to change his game when he does.

He seems like a guy who will take care of himself, so injuries permitting it should be a good deal, since he fills a role out on the right (yes, he played there for Barca, Udinese and for Arsenal early on) that we desperately need some quality on. His wages shouldn't worry people who cares about that sort of stuff because:
1. Total investment in the player will be at a "normal" figure for his class due to the low transfer fee, offsetting any potentially eye-watering wages.

2. If our other 2 world class players in Pogba and De Gea want similar pay, we can afford it and tie them down for bigger contracts. Having them on higher wages also means they are less likely to have their heads turned by other top clubs as money won't be a issue if they are paid for or above their market value.

Signing Sanchez doesn't even negatively effect Martial or Rashford as neither of them are good from the right.

People who worry about him going to city need to realize that it was expected a long time ago, we're now in with a shot as opposed to resigning ourselves to him going there and not making a move for a great player that fits us well. If it doesn't come off we at least know the club tried, and going by reports it wouldn't be because of financial reasons he won't pick us.
On top of this, getting a attacker like Sanchez on a free means we'll have funds available to spend on other problem areas like LB, CB, RB and a new midfielder.
I've mentioned it before, but Sanchez & Özil on a free transfers and a LB of the quality of Alex Sandro means we'll be more complete in attack (less reliant on Pogba to create and less reliant on our talents being in form), more robust in defense (since we have a never-injured tank-engine in Valencia on the right, tons of CBs to rotate in the middle and then Sandro+Shaw/young for the left). The squad quality overall goes up massively across the line and we will mostly be adding to the wage-budget instead of both spending tons in transfers and wages.

Before Sanchez became a seemingly possibility, the idea that we could fix our squad (to a large extent) in one window was not really there for me, now that he is a possibility I'm drooling at the chance of feeling like our squad can be added replacements to old-guard rather than a need to up the quality constantly.

Needless to say, I'm going Muppet mode until the summer transfer window ends.

So ballbag tweeted Sanchez will have to choose between Pep or money, Gary Neville jumped on it with a shitload of sarcasm.
Ballbag hates Jose but licks Peps arse.
I've had a look. Fair play Nev.
