Loyalty lads. I believe Matic having the courage to take things that far reflects his lack of regard for the club. In my opinion.
I don’t think Matic has disrespected the club. Onana opened his mouth when he didn’t need to and said irrelevant things when he didn’t need to. Matic has hit back with a statistical fact on the player who opened their mouth.
Who the feck is he to belittle Onana like that. Onana said the obvious thing as they are fifth in much weaker league. No class.
2x PL winner and FA cup winner for Chelsea, and at least helped Manchester United finish 2nd in their peak league seasons.
He's also not one of the worst players we've had in modern history for his chosen position.
Importantly though, he wouldn't have chosen to put Onana down if the latter wasn't an saying daft and disrespectful things addressed to an entire squad of players.
I think what it shows is that he quite dislikes Onana individually. It was quite an overreaction but nothing was said against the club.
I don't understand why Bartez is rated higher than Onana when he was producing howlers in a confident, winning team. Onana was different for Inter.
Where's the statistics? Where is the facts?

I’m not saying that Onana is our worst keeper, however based on stats it’s not a lie from Matic. Onana has made some great saves but he also cost us massively in last seasons champions league. He needs to shut up and start performing on a more consistent basis.

It's clever gamesmanship from Matic. Put doubt into the fans and players (especially Onana himself) and pumps up his own team. Very Mourinho like from Matic in response to a Moyes like comment from Onana.
Of course it's not a lie, but it's still extremely classless from Matic to get personal like that.
So Matic the player can not criticize how Onana is crap, but Matic the United fan can point out that Onana is crap?
And as the follow up from Onana shows, he clearly is not a snowflake like some of you, he gloats about his glorious trophy season of 2024, let's hope he doesn't produce some of his European nights specials tonight.
Some of those stats aren't just reliant on the goalkeeper though.

Think it's obvious that Onana aimed to big-up his team. He went about it the wrong way, but you could say he's more deluded about United's current level than him being disrespectful or anything else.
Thing is he's going to be (rightly) put under scrutiny on what he says rather than what he means. He was very careless with his words and had to take his medicine.
Also makes the most saves.

I'm convinced some of you want Onana to make a howler tonight just to praise Matic the United legend that he is.
He's going to be absolutely awful or utterly incredible tonight. No in-between.
The stats are poor.
I would even prefer Bosnich and Howard to Onana. Obviously different times, so those two wouldn’t be good in the modern game as goalkeeping has changed.
However, it’s hard to argue he’s not the worst no 1 we have had in the PL era. I am not going to count the likes of Tiabi or other keepers who weren’t a nailed on no 1.
When you look at Bosnich, Howard or Barthez (second season), when they has troubles, and it was clear it wasn’t going to work - they got binned off and replaced quickly. That’s exactly what we need to do with Onana (and the reality is it should have already happened - esp. after the CL last season).
Has he ever been incredible? He’s made some good saves - as all keepers do. I think he’s either going to be awful, or average.

There's a difference between Matic saying something like "A player who has struggled and made a lot of mistakes since joining Utd should worry about his own performances before talking down about others" (which I'd be fine with), and straight up calling him the worst goalkeeper in the clubs history. There's a line, and Matic clearly stepped over it.
Onana's original comments were a bit stupid, the response from Matic was uncalled for and quite frankly made him look like a prick, and Onana's later response to that was quite funny.
Too much focus on him now. I fear the result of it.
This isnt correct, yes he had an up and down first season but the goalkeeper coach worked hard with him and he found his form resulting in him being statistically the best goalkeeper in the league for the first 10 or 11 games of this season under ETH but then ETH was sacked and Amorim made the stupid decision to sack that goalkeeping coach and bring his own in which has destroyed his form and made him look poor again.
Relative to his transfer fee, he is easily the worst keeper United have ever had.
Is Matic not one of our worst starting DMs in recent history? Is he better than Fred and McTominay, for example?
People will sometimes slap you with the truth. When you sit on 13th place and have a negative goal difference, only managed to beat Ipswich and Leicester in the PL in the months of February, March and now April, you should maybe have a bit of common sense and not talk crap about who is better. Onana clearly has no touch with reality and comes up as a very stupid individual, and stupid people get embarrassed sometimes. If anything this current lot don't get embarrassed enough and called up in public in this manner.
Funny because Matic was also awful at United.

The way some of our fans are sticking the boot into Onana is disappointing but not surprising. I can almost guarantee that Onana didn't intend to be offensive. His wording may have been clumsy but he was trying to emphasise the strength of our team, not the lack of quality in Lyon. Talk of him needing to 'be humbled' from so called united fans is really weird and the type of drivel I'd expect from Souness.
Yeah I find it annoying how some fans seem to be gleefully saying that Matic humiliated Onana (Adam from FUTV being a prime example.)
So you are saying in his time here, he has had a good run of form for 10 games. That’s over 2 seasons. Goalkeeping coaches are important - but you put far too much emphasis on this.
We have seen Onana doesn’t have the right fundamentals of a quality GK.
