Pretty muchHe doesn't smile like a mad man consistently, nor does he run around like a headless chicken. Those things show enthusiasm for game. They are far more important than having actual ability.
It's pointless to bring up Firmino when talking about goals. Dude get praised for being a defensive striker whatever the hell that meansPosted this in a thread in the main forum but worth posting in here too;
This season, in games where Pogba or Fernandes or both have played, Martial has a record of 11 games and 10 goals.
He now has the joint 3rd best goals per minute ratio in the premier league. Above Kane, Vardy, Firmino, Salah, Mane, Sterling, Jimenez etc. He has an even better ratio in all competitions.
Oh my bad.Yeah he did, but the tweet about how long it took Ronaldo, Rooney and Martial to score a hat-trick was specifically talking about a league hat-trick (I think).
To be fair to Sergej M-S he’s been The best midfielder in Italy this season alongside Luis Alberto, he’s been vital to Lazios title push.Don’t forget getting rid of Pogba for Milinkovic-Savic (has he done anything noteworthy this season?)
We were so very close to having an attacking quintet of Lukaku, being flanked by Willian and Perisic, being fed by Felliani and Milinkovic-Savic.
And to think members of our own fanbase were upset that Jose wasn’t allowed to make this happen.
Thanks for that, as it was a genuine question on my part, even if it came across as snarky Still wouldn't want him over Pogba though. To be fair to Sergej M-S he’s been The best midfielder in Italy this season alongside Luis Alberto, he’s been vital to Lazios title push.

A lot of people on the caf have a fairly strained relationship with reality, it's so frustrating.19 goals, 5 assists, was the chief playmaker for a big chunk of the season when we had a shoe strings midfield.
Caf: I'm no sure he's done enough to be backed.. let's fork out a fortune for an injury prone finisher who is no where near as a playmaker.. werner and haaland are better
Totally agree. It's so unfortunate, we should be spending our energy discussing the distinctly unique combination of qualities the guy has shown throughout the worst United period in recent times, not arguing whether or not he should be in the team. Even crazier is that he's yet to reach his prime but is already so good.A lot of people on the caf have a fairly strained relationship with reality, it's so frustrating.

The way people talk on the Caf you quickly understand how deluded this place can be. As if the likes of Haaland and Werner would be banging in loads of goals with a Lingard or Perreira as their cheif creatorsTotally agree. The delusion for me is when they are confident there is only one type of striker that should feature at united. You always get the "we need a RVP/RVN type of striker." They also forget we had their classic No.9 in Lukaku who is currently banging in goals at Inter but is still a shite footballer.This.
So many delusional posters on these boards who are of the mindset that everyone from elsewhere is better than our own.
Caf would always be clamouring for other teams players whether they've proven it or not, as long as it's a shiny new toy prospect.
The list of replacements to Martial suggested in some threads was embarrassing.

Their limitations would be shown even worse because unlike Martial who is actually a baller who can help with some playmaking duties, those 2 don't have Martial in ball abilities which means if Lingard and Perreira aren't creating and providing for them which they won't then they'd become even more useless.
But Caf had deluded itself that they'd have come here and bang goals with Lingard behind.
Amazing postWhen you actually stop to think about it, Martial played as a striker all the way through the youth ranks at Lyon, to Monaco, and was bought by Utd as a striker.
He started his first Utd season at striker and finished it on the wing to accommodate first Rooney and then Rashford when he broke through.
The next three seasons he played for a manager who did not want him anywhere near the club, First taking his number nine off him and giving it to ibrahimovic, and then keeping him permanently on the wings for the next three years, also buying Lukaku to continue where Ibrahimovic left off. He also tried to sell him on many occasions, the Perisic links, Willian links and the reported demand from Arsenal for a swap of Martial for Sanchez, I even heard that he was a part of the conversation with the reported bid for Eric Dier. Imagine if he would have been swapped for any of these players.
Now this season he has finally gotten his first full season at Utd playing as a striker and even with two months out injured, he has scored 19 goals and 5 assists with only one of those goals coming from the penalty spot (We have had a lot of penalties this season, imagine how many goals he would have if he was the penalty taker)and there is a minimum of nine games left barring any injuries of course, These numbers are comparable with the best forwards in the premier league.
So realistically this whole inconsistent thing the fans and the media alike have invented about him is a MYTH because as a striker, he has excelled and now finally he can play with players in midfield and attack that are on his wavelength and also remember this guy hardly ever misses the target when he shoots plus the added bonus of him being a terrific dribbler, imagine if we sign Sancho the combination between the three.
Stop dreaming about signing a centre forward who is going to be there to be scoring from crosses or running through on goal (Lukaku) we don't have Beckham or Neville anymore, and we don't really have any good crossers of the ball and our full backs hit a lot of low crosses.
In Bruno, Pogba, Rashford and Martial, we play along the ground a lot more, imagine these players playing a full season together. I for one have and the potential is limitless and I believe Martial has absolutely earned the right to play in front of all that creativity, we have played for so long with no creativity in the team. Why should we buy a striker who will most probably not as skilled as he is to take his place and that striker gets to be the one who reaps the benefit of this new found creativity in the team.
I wonder how great Martial could have been if we had never hired Mourinho and Martial had played all five years as a striker without missing three years of crucial development.
I was looking at the top 25 league scorers in the premier league and he actually has the highest shots on target %. He’s 69% and Vardy is the closest at 65%Now this season he has finally gotten his first full season at Utd playing as a striker and even with two months out injured, he has scored 19 goals and 5 assists with only one of those goals coming from the penalty spot (We have had a lot of penalties this season, imagine how many goals he would have if he was the penalty taker)and there is a minimum of nine games left barring any injuries of course, These numbers are comparable with the best forwards in the premier league.
I think that sometimes people are a bit confused because the likes of RVP/RVN were like Lewandowski today or Suarez in his prime, these type of players are extremely rare nowadays and I would argue that Lewandowski is the only top level specimen. Every top clubs should be after that type of strikers when they appear but every top clubs should also try to maximize the type of striker they currently have because constantly dreaming and moaning about the lack of a certain type of player isn't productive, particularly when you can work tactically around players like Martial, Benzema, Cavani, Firmino, Aguero, Haaland or Werner, you are not going to have the same organization but they can all work in a productive unit. The delusion for me is when they are confident there is only one type of striker that should feature at united. You always get the "we need a RVP/RVN type of striker." They also forget we had their classic No.9 in Lukaku who is currently banging in goals at Inter but is still a shite footballer.
On that particular point, it's important to remember that this was the fruit of his role, under Mourinho Martial wasn't often in goalscoring positions and since he isn't a player that takes speculative shots he was never going to do what someone like Ronaldo does which is shot from distance with strange angles when he doesn't have opportunities inside the box. Outside of the box, Martial looks for teammates and how to move the ball into the box, in the box he tries to find shooting positions. Interestingly Ibrahimovic and Griezmann had the same issues, Ibrahimovic eventually modelled a part of his game on Van Basten while Griezmann had to be sternly told by Simeone to be more selfish and shoot more often because it was the reason he bought him.I was looking at the top 25 league scorers in the premier league and he actually has the highest shots on target %. He’s 69% and Vardy is the closest at 65%
He seems to have improved his shots taken amount as well. I think that stat still needs to be higher as last season I’m sure the likes of Kane and Aguero were in the 90’s but Martial has 49 attempts.
Seems looking at everyone all the numbers are down and Salah has the most attempts at 74 or something. I do think Martial needs to improve this number but in the end if for example mid week he decides to pass the ball like he did to Rashford to set up an easy tap in instead of taking that shot on then so be it.
I've put a sneaky 20 quid bet on itIf he can stay fit, looking at our remaining fixtures, he can close the gap (5 goals) to PL top scorer, or at least be there or there about.
He's just 2 behind Augero and 3 behind Aubameyang & Salah.
This is just another myth the Caf has given life to for some reasons. Martial IS NOT injury prone. People have got to understand and know what injury prone or crocked means.Martial had a great game midweek and no doubt he is a superb finisher. The issue is where are we when he is crocked which he is regularly.
We still need another class striker. Ighala is a temporary fill in but not the one for me Long term.
The injuries to him and Rashford this season were 100% due to a lack of depth. Every player needs some depth behind them to rotate, sub out, rest when they have a slight niggle, etc, otherwise they'll pick up much bigger injuries and more regular injuries. Rashford got a stress fracture ffs. Ighalo coming in has given that depth to us, and same with Bruno so that we can rotate and not be completely fecked in the game, same with Greenwood developing. Of course Ighalo is temporary, but the plan is definitely to sign Sancho this summer and let Greenwood, James and Ighalo be the 3 depth players (and next January replace Ighalo when he leaves).Martial had a great game midweek and no doubt he is a superb finisher. The issue is where are we when he is crocked which he is regularly.

Worse thing is that you see the same nonsense in the media, so you know these posters are being influenced by self appointed experts and pundits rather than the reality on the pitch.This.
