Better on the right than Rashford, but that wouldn't be hard.
This is true. A combination of Rashford and Garnacho is incredibly one dimensional, both are head down, tunnel vision merchants, they don't help you hold possession, or control the tempo of a game, doubles down on the midfield issues. Throw in Hojlund and you have another player who offers little in general play, balance of the team is not good to put it mildly.Last two games have shown why he starts so often. Having a wide player who is able to hold onto the ball under pressure, find teammates with his passes and help his fullback defensively makes a huge difference when the alternative are players who don’t do any of the above. And that makes him a player who has to start when available, despite his lack of end product. Admittedly a low bar but that’s what we’re working with here.
This is sadly the unsexy truth about where we are right now and why it baffles me when people put forward alternatives who don't do the above.Last two games have shown why he starts so often. He has never been a player that scores a lot of goals, even at Ajax he rarely reached double figures and its made hard for him to get assists when the players he is meant to be assisting are hardly ever in the right places. His attitude, workrate and determination have not been questioned , he is not lacking those attributes.
But he needs to deliver more on quality , a winger that can't/won't take on his man , scores little and assists less is not worth much in the Premier league.
He quality needs to improve, and that is not an easy fix no matter how hard you are trying.
I think he'll be more effective if our whole squad moves to his effort levels. You can't tell me anyone thought Almiron would be as effective as he has been for Newcastle without the whole team working hard. When we have a squad full of players who work just as hard as him, then he might move higher up the list of issues we need to fix because the quality lacks. But at base level he has more than many others right now.
Anybody denying this has an agendaI don’t care how much he gets slagged off, I think we look a miles better team when he plays.
100%. His decision making needs to improve but he definitely has talent and he works his socks off. I'd take him in my XI every single timeI don’t care how much he gets slagged off, I think we look a miles better team when he plays.
I’ve been arguing it since he signed, he’s one of our most important players because he’s our number 1 out ball to keep possession.I don’t care how much he gets slagged off, I think we look a miles better team when he plays.
