Andre Marriner involved in both side for 2 red cards for Casemiro. no question of bias whatsoever ?

Probably a Red Card. Wouldn't have been surprised with it not being awarded, but can't really overly complain that it was.
The problem is once the ref has seen it and made the decision to give a yellow I don't understand what VAR could of seen that he didn't to make him overturn it. Remember they say VAR isn't supposed to re-referee games it's for when the ref has missed something clear and obvious

It’s similar to the Schweinsteiger situation. At first, you couldn’t criticise him with the whole “BFS” stuff, but it was obvious he was bad.

It’s obvious Casemiro is bad but he still has that reputation that prevents any criticism.
It isn't similar at all. You're just a feelings kind of guy, and you've decided to hate Casemiro.

Is this the least amount a player has done wrong to get 7 games?
I know it’s slightly different but Rio Ferdinand got an 8 month ban for missing a drugs test despite the fact he took it later at the time and passed it. Also missed Euro 2004 due to the ban.

You really are desperate to die on this hill aren’t you.

The rest of the footballing world is talking of him being in contention for player of the season and you have still convinced yourself he’s a bad player.

The difference between Schwein and Casemiro is Schwein was shit for us. Casemiro is our best player. Not similar at all.

Casemiro has been very good for us, but Rashford is our best player.

Casemiro has been great so far, he just has to realise that you can't go into challenges with your studs showing....some may get away with it but anyone is taking a big risk doing it.

Yeah very true and brilliant as he's been you can't thinking what might have been had he not missed Arsenal and Leeds games

I think he's completely focused on his passing, and any bad passing completion rates are what determine whether he is a good or bad midfielder. Which could be understandable if he was like many of our other midfielders who didn't excel at anything else. The obvious reason why others disagree with him is because we don't ignore his quality to break up play, his positioning to help our defense out, and I would say his awareness+ability to do 1 touch passing is crucial at times. Yeah he doesn't always pull it off, but he's also crucial to some of our attacks. It's not a given that a defensive midfielder does this.

He has 5 goals and 5 assists for a defensive midfielder. That too adds to his performances. He has as many goal contributions as Fred and Mctominay have ever had, while also being the more effective defensive presence.

True. Hopefully he cuts it out next season when we're a more stable team. We're gonna need him, can't be having him miss 6-7 games due to suspension.

We need to find a backup who has his positional sense and ability to sense danger

Definitely.
I love McTominay, but unfortunately he's not it.
Ideally I'd move McTominay on in the summer for some good money and sign a young hungry backup with potential to shadow Casemiro/fill in when injured/suspended.

Good tackle but he needs to play it safe. Both he and United seem to have a target on our head these days.

Both red cards were soft, but equally needless, both times he gave the ref / var the opportunity and they took it.

As much as I like him and as much as I thought it was a yellow he can be very careless. And we really cant afford not to have him 8 league games a season

I suppose there could be some truth in us being after Rice as they could play together and if one needs resting we still have defensive stability.

Never a red card. Couldn't believe it was even referred in the first place, then to upgrade...wow.

Added to that, the number of tackles miles worse and not accidental this weekend and over the last couple of weeks going unpunished made the sending off very difficult to take for me.

Love the impact he’s had but he’s smart enough to now realise he has to change his game slightly. In Spain referees are in favour of the likes of Madrid, here they’re looking for an excuse to become part of the game.

I think it was a soft red but he has to adapt his style of tackle in these situations. Some of the yellows he’s collecting also look avoidable. We can’t win consistently without him, he needs to be more considered.

About 2 minutes before he made that challenge, he went sliding in on someone else and completely missed the ball and the player. In exactly the same spot. He was being reckless, and someone needed to have a word with him. Martinez got booked in the first few minutes and played the entire game without going to ground, he stood up and played football, rather brilliantly. I actually thought he would be the one getting sent off.

He needs to stop going to the ground so easily. It annoys me with AWB sometimes and he's a better tackler than Casemiro.

Red card or not, it was a silly, naive tackle from a very experience player, he should know better.

8 games he will have missed through suspensions this season, that's unacceptable.

he has been our best midfielder. I just hope this does diminish his motivation to continue in this league if he feels he has been unfairly targeted by officials.

Still frames and super slim motion is a rather daft way to judge tackles in football.

But sadly Casemiro’s defence can’t be to show the tens of other tackles that have gone unpunished this season.

Gutted for him.

I'm trying to understand the view of those that say Casemiro's red card is his fault.

As manager, I wouldn't dare fine him for indiscipline or berate him because it would be very unfair and provoke a strong negative reaction from the player and dressing room. Instead I'd 100% create a siege mentality.

Maybe I'm used to football before the 2010s and avoid over-scrutinising still frames /slow motion replays but I still think that it's such a ridiculous view if you think he deserves to be red-carded. If the Premier League refs today still do not penalise those challenges as red cards or even fouls, then they aren't.

Casemiro was clearly aiming at the ball ahead of the opponent's legs and got to the ball before his foot rolled upwards and made contact with the player.

was very unfortunate to get a red card, was clearly going for the ball and won it, but caught the players leg afterwards, I wouldn't even say it was dangerous or reckless, very unlucky.

These are my thoughts. Not sure it was a red card but there’s always a chance if you leap in like that. Could’ve really hurt the player even if he won the ball.

Annoying thing is you'd think he's far too clever and experienced to go into a tackle with the studs showing. Asking for it.

I don't see it being a bad tackle in any case. It was a well-calculated risk, he was never going in with an idea to get into contact with another player, just the ball. And It was a disgrace to officiating from the refs.

It's not like he suddenly started putting in these types of tackles because he thought, feck it let me now start playing like this.

He used to be La Liga's Fabinho/Fernandinho/Rodri. Always got away with these kinds of fouls.

It's our bad luck that they decided to make an example of him over here.

It was a well-calculated risk

Its not a well calculated risk when you end up with a completely pointless red card. We know referees are shit. We know that they can watch the same tackle twice in the same game and give one a red and the other nothing. As soon as you give them a decision on a red you have made a poorly calculated risk unless your action prevented a goal.

We got utterly shafted Yesterday by the ref and VAR but the Casemiro red was the least egregious of those mistakes. The issue is not so much that he was given a red for that, I personally think it was a silly challenge and bad luck played its part but those are often given. The issue is that every weekend there are a dozen challenges as bad as that which don't receive a red.

Are we appealing the red?
Like the last red, despite feeling hard done by and similar incidents affecting us in other games this season without equal punishment, I'm sure someone will be telling EtH today that an appeal will only lead to the ban being upheld or even extended.

If you apply nothing but explicit definition of the rules it's a red card. Of course context changes things and at best puts it in the category of 'borderline', but the FA would never consider an appeal based on context...especially when it comes to United.

It's amazing that when other teams get great players they are lauded and revered and the Premier league can't get enough of them. Our great players are there to be ridiculed and targeted and I'm sure some high ups are extremely disappointed that Cas has been so great as I expect they were hoping for a Basti or Falcao signing to crash and burn.

Reading some on here, we might as well just ban all tackling and challenges as these poor refs brains must be exploding from all the decisions they have to make. If he had just done nothing the same would have been moaning.

Definitely agree with this.
