The fact he played for England in the first place was nuts.Yes you’re right 2010 it was. That Rob Green incident was a proper head in hands moment. Did he ever play for England again after that?
Is that Gakpo as a 10 or a false 9 or what? What even is this graphic?
The Dutch really love their CBs
I for one am shocked a world class player like Depay isn't playing...Why's caf's favorite Depay not starting?
Prayer time or traffic is my guessWhy do they leave so early..where is there to go that you need to get there quickly, do you leave early to miss the rush hour or queues to something else?
Doesn't really work like that does it? Look at the gulf in quality and depth in their CBs to England.I mean, you have to compare the two leagues. The Premier League is so far ahead of the Eredivisie.
He is not completely fit yet I imagine. His last match was over 2 months ago. Why's caf's favorite Depay not starting?
Normally Memphis would start over Janssen… but even with Memphis its not exactly Robben + RvPVincent Janssen and Steven Bergwijn is the best frontline the Netherlands can come up with for a World Cup?
Jesus Christ, international football really is just cack now, isn't it?
Someone mentioned that he is injured?I for one am shocked a world class player like Depay isn't playing...
To be fair, if they're gonna put Van Dijk out there, they need a CB on each side of him.
The Dutch really love their CBs
A fit Memphis is the second name on the sheetI for one am shocked a world class player like Depay isn't playing...
Yeah it was, but there have been a few like that. That’s why I don’t want to get carried away. I’m just ready for the heartache and disappointment. I think 02 was the worst one for me. Really thought we could do something. We could have beaten Brazil but then David Seaman….The fact he played for England in the first place was nuts.
The 2010 team (and world cup) was proper shit for England.
Yeah, there's a lot to get excited about but that's a tad worrying. We're going to have to be an awful lot better at the back. Iran has 22% of the ball, scored two goals and should have had at least 1 more.
Netherlands next. First team we'll be seeing in the tournament that has a chance at winning the competition.
Should be interesting.
One post dispels another unintentionallyVincent Janssen and Steven Bergwijn is the best frontline the Netherlands can come up with for a World Cup?
Ireland would get destroyed in the asian cupHow the hell are Ireland ranked 29 places below Iran?
In terms of the full squad? I’d say it does. The money pumped into premier league teams has gone to improve not just the first teams, but academies too. When you’ve got 10/15 world class academies all bringing through youth players during the time when money in football is absolutely booming you’ll get a decent squad. Not trying to downplay the Netherlands, but their national team was towards the top of the world when their clubs were too. It was a matter of time for England to “come good” let’s say with the premier league being there.Doesn't really work like that does it? Look at the gulf in quality and depth in their CBs to England.
This is international football.I mean, you have to compare the two leagues. The Premier League is so far ahead of the Eredivisie.
Qatar won it in 2019. One year ago Ireland beat Qatar 4-0. Doesn’t mean much, but Ireland certainly would not get destroyed.Ireland would get destroyed in the asian cup
We might not have the worst forward line thanks to you guys.Bergwijn Janssen is surely our worst ever attack in a world cup game? I almost miss Dirk Kuyt
Chelsea won the CL with Werner and Havertz. PSG didnt with Neymar, Mbappe and Messi. You dont need to best forward line to win. We have a strong defense. One post dispels another unintentionally
England got to the semis in 2018, no? That’s 4 years near enough to the top of international game. I’d definitely say the premier league has a huge say in that. Italy also didn’t qualify for 2018 or this World Cup. In either case, I’m talking about England having such a strong squad. They have insane depth of good to great football players, all of them coming from English academies which have benefited from the money and quality that’s come from the premier league. This is international football.
By 2018 PL was already best league in the world, and France won the WC with only 4-5 players in the PL, Euro 2020 was won by Italy with only Jorginho playing in the PL, and the rest in Serie A which is far behind PL since the early 2010s.
I don't think the league dictates much in international football, otherwise Scotland would have qualified to this WC.
Ireland also drew 1-1 earlier on that year with QatarQatar won it in 2019. One year ago Ireland beat Qatar 4-0. Doesn’t mean much, but Ireland certainly would not get destroyed.
Yeah, they got destroyed 1-1?Ireland also drew 1-1 earlier on in the year with Qatar
Makaay and Hasselbaink hardly got minutes and now they would be one of the starplayers. Times have changedBergwijn Janssen is surely our worst ever attack in a world cup game? I almost miss Dirk Kuyt
No you are right , that was by LuxembourgYeah, they got destroyed 1-1?
Struggles with end product. hehWhat's the general consensus on Gakpo? Saw him a bit at PSV, looks pretty promising.
What does that have to do with Ireland getting hypothetically "destroyed" at the Asian Cup?No you are right , that was by Luxembourg
