According to AS, Madrid has an informal agreement with De Gea that means they must pay him €5 million for failing to complete his transfer this summer. That's much cheaper than paying United what we asked for, plus Navas.
Still doesnt explain why they would pretend to bid for him, rather than just saying, thanks but no thanks, here's your money. I think there must have been some kind of gentleman's agreement, which they wanted to be seen to try to honour, to ensure he still joined them next year.

Or else its something else entirely. Like, a genuine SNAFU with the paperwork. Or Atleti fans vandalised their phone lines so their fax wouldnt work.

As for pissing off Navas... well this is still the same club who fecked their legendary keeper out the door earlier this summer isn't it?
Legendary but clearly a very long way past his best - I thought they were pretty kind in letting him play last season.

"We never made a bid for De Gea"

Outlandish assumption IMO. The reality is they have been unwilling to do business with us deal until the final day.

It's outlandish that Real would have been happy to swap Navas for De Gea? Ok then.

Their initial offer was 15m and they would have gladly swapped Navas for De Gea. Not sure what's so outlandish about that.
Source?

If it is from the press, the same press seems to report that the first bid for De Gea from Real came yesterday and that too in the afternoon

Yes it is. Because it is a stupid fecking deal for us. We wanted too price for the best gk. Pay up or shut the feck up. Simples.

How is that relevant when we are talking about Real would have been willing to do? The pay up or shut up stance has gotten us nowhere. Spurs are a very good example of why trying to squeeze as much money as possible is not always a good idea.

Ultimately, I don't see how a scenario where we've had to play 6 games of our season with our number 2 in goal (who, like it or not, has cost us points already) can be described as us playing this saga out well.

Pay up or shut up stance apparently got us to £29m and Navas. How is that "nowhere"?

Last development I've see was from April. And they denied wrong doing. What's the latest?
You're right, i thought i saw a report that both Madrid clubs HAD sanctions imposed due to their policy of signing young player but it seems i was misinformed. There are no new developments in that case post April

I don't know which alternate universe you are living in. But in our reality RM didn't bother putting a bid in till the last minute. What they would have or could have done is besides the fecking point. The last I checked DDG is worth lot more than the shitty 15mill offer and RM did end up offering us 29mill for him. If they couldn't sign the fecking paper work, then it isn't United's fault.

Sometimes you find yourself in a situation where there is no pain-free way out. It is just a case of finding the least bad option available. Maybe this is one of those instances.

Tho Im playing Devil's Advocate here really. IMO he should never have been dropped. Id even have played him in the CL game. Maybe advised them in advance that was our plan, in case that focused their minds - though apparently he wouldnt have been cup tied anyway.

Because we were publicly stating anything but a world record fee for a keeper or one of their big name players and we wouldn't do a deal. It was ridiculous. We could easily have had this sorted long before the competitive football started but we've postured aimlessly and ended up with a keeper who doesn't want to be here, who we just have to hope manages to sort his head sufficiently to give us most of a season before we lose him for nothing.

With regards to the rest, I agree picking Romero has been right for now. I was referring to the idea that we may continue to select Romero for the rest of the season, unless De Gea signs a new contract with us.

So we should have just caved in to whatever Madrid wanted to offer us. In fact you are saying we should have actively been pursuing them to do the deal on their terms just so that we can get it sorted quickly?

It's not 29m + Navas. It's 29m including Navas which is not much more than what was initially (reportedly) offered.

Even ignoring the money, we ended up playing 5 games with a 2nd choice keeper and would have had Navas trying to settle into a new league to contend with it as well.

Ballbag on Sky.... saying that no matter what Fifa say, La Liga wont let the deal go ahead.

Hmmmmm

Well they obviously did make a bid which is why we countered with Ramos unless in your alternate version we went to Real and started negotiating without Real ever letting us know that they want De Gea.

SkySports News and others were reporting something like £18m + Navas.
Yup. The £29m is a bullshit figure because it includes Madrid's valuation of Navas. If they valued Navas at £89m it would be quoted as a £100m overall fee. Basically we agreed to a deal that we could've gotten on day 1.

Even Ballbag saying that not much Utd could have done about it.

I've seen so many conflicting reports that it's hard to tell what to believe in that respect.

We ended up playing 6 games (Spurs, Villa, Brugge, Newcastle, Brugge, Swansea) with a 2nd choice keeper... conceding only three goals and keeping four clean sheets in the process. Showing that our defence doesn't fall apart without a new keeper, emphasising that we have less reason to go ahead with the transfer than Real do.

Basically we didn't. The £29M would be the fee for De Gea without Navas involved. You may notice this is double the amount of the deal we could have gotten on day 1. We would be receiving less than the £29M though, how much changes depending on the source, because Navas is being included in the deal. But the £29M is the valuation for De gea alone.

Honestly, I couldn't give a feck less about your argument nor about this transfer window nonsense. Majority of it is made up BS anyways. I am just glad DDG is still with us, it's up to LVG to see how me handles the situation. I can't wait for the next game.

Ball-Ache on SSN said the only offer made was an agreed €40m (United agreed the valuation) but Real put out rumours of weird lower valuations to save face as they had stated categorically earlier in the saga that they would NEVER pay €29m let alone more.

All well and good but that is hindsight. It surely can't have been our intention to go into a new season with De Gea in the stands and someone as average as Romero in goal. And we could have done with signing Navas early on and giving him more time to adjust to a new league and teammates.

Really dont care what happens,Real Madrid the circus showed once more how classy they are,if true not only they tried to push out Navas but they also dropping blame on him for this mess...if hooney boo boo wants to play for that circus, well cya.

Edit: Oh and nice try by boo boo camp with that LvG is a reason why he did not sign a new contract bs.

Well, don't fecking post then if you have no arguments. Not that hard surely..

This isn't our fault. However in the process they have thrown the goalkeeper they are going to have to use under the bus. Well done Real. Now LvG is going to have to turn on the charm for once and play DDG. With LvG you cannot tell what he will do.
