Q2 tyre choice no longer determines Grand Prix start tyre for the top 10
The qualifying format we’ve all become accustomed to – split into three segments with the 10 quickest fighting it out for the best grid slot in Q3 – remains the same.
1800 local time – to maximise the chances of more people being able to watch after work. The fastest time in qualifying gives you P1 on the grid for the new F1 Sprint event.
Drivers can only use the softest tyre compound available and have four sets to run – with those making into Q3 getting an extra set.
And the drivers who make it into the final part of qualifying will no longer have to start the Grand Prix on the compound they went fastest on in Q2, as the choice is now free.

Track limits being enforced at Turn 11, go over it and the lap time is deleted AND the next lap also.
Qualifying at 5pm on a Friday is rubbish, still in work till 6

Surely they need to implement a minimum speed for out/in laps to try and stop this stacking on track, there's been a few incidents that could have been a nasty accident with someone on a fast lap nearly running into a pack of slow cars that are virtually ground to a halt

That drops Tsunoda out in Q1 - and George Russell IS through.
A big disappointment for the AlphaTauri driver.

There will be a big crash one day because of this stacking shite, happens at every track too.
Yeah gets worse every race now, they need to do something about it

Apart from the danger it just looks poor really, cars trying to find slip streams, getting tyres, brakes to the right temps. Just need to get out and race.
It nearly caused a huge crash for Vettel last weekend as well with the two Hass, Mazepin added to the issue but I believe the issue was caused by the stacking in the first place

Channel 4 won't be even showing highlights of this tonight it seems. So weird to have quali, nothing about it on TV and on a Friday,, I only stumbled into this thread to read about any Russell to Merc posts and qualifying is happening.
Will have to watch some F1 YT channel summary later as waiting for Channel 4 to show bits late on tomorrow isn't without seeing spoilers happening.

Bottas to take grid penalties
That's a development - confirmation from the FIA that Valtteri Bottas has taken a raft of new engine elements for this weekend.
They are beyond his penalty-free allocation for the season so he's set for the back of the grid on Sunday (when the penalties are applied as usual, not for the sprint).

That’s odd that Bottas would take his penalty here, a track he can legit finish ahead of Max on. Seems like a tactical error from Merc.
Why are they allowed to release cars side by side into the pit Lane? That is just stupid. I assume the Vettel thing was just a dumb error but plenty of cars going side by side, which should just outright be banned.
Agree, it looks an easy race for Mercedes Sunday and he's likely to finish 2nd as Max is struggling, you think they'd wait until a weaker race
When does he get the penalty for the sprint race or the actual race?
I suppose they're hoping theyll be so dominant they can get him back up to the top 3 - but not sure it'll be possible with the DRS train.

Considering how shit he was overtaking last year on this track with an incredibly dominant car, yeah, I'm not sure he'll manage it.
Gasly is a great driver, really rate him. Shame it didn’t work out at Red Bull.
