Encouraging for Mercedes with no visible porposing in fp1, but lets see what happens in fp2 and fp3.
Surely latifi time at the team is at an end soon? De vries jumps in the car and goes quicker than him in his first session in the williams.
Probably harder to get rid of latifi than it seems on paper as his dad owns part of the team.

FP2 times are encouraging for Mercedes, hope its not a repeat of Miami and FP3 and qualifying are back to being rubbish.

Could be that Barcelona isn't a high top speed track so Porpoising won't be a big issue anyway, but the car just looks much more planted in general.

It does look like they have gotten the porposing under control but lets see what tomorrow brings. Fingers crossed they are competitive again as it will make the season so much more interesting as will the green red bulls.

Yes mentioned on sky f1 coverage. Personally im all for teams copying other teams, it will just bring the pack closer together and lead to better racing.
Horner raises concerns over Aston Martin 'lookalike'
Horner has also been having his say on the controversy surrounding the apparent similarities between Red Bull's car and Aston Martin's.
"Imitation is the biggest form of flattery at the end of the day and it's no coincidence we've had a few individuals who have transferred from Red Bull to Aston Martin over the winter and the early part of this season.
"It was actually brought to our attention by the FIA earlier in the week when they said 'We've got a car which looks remarkably like yours, can we have a list of your leavers to see where they went?'. Of course, that immediately raises alarm bells.
"What is permissible - we see it up and down the paddock individuals move from team to team after a gardening leave period.
"What individuals take in their head, that's fair game and is their knowledge. What isn't fair and totally unacceptable is if there has been any transfer of IP."
The FIA have investigated the matter and cleared Aston Martin to use their new-look car, and Horner hopes the governing body are doing their job in ensuring team intellectual property is not being stolen.
"I'm not going to disclose exactly where we are with certain individuals, but it would be a criminal offence.
"Ideas are a team's lifeblood, it's what we invest millions of pounds into and you wouldn't want to see that just turning up in a rival organisation.
"We will have an internal investigation, we've got our own software protections, we know exactly where our software is looked at and where it is controlled.
"It's the job of the regulator, the FIA, because they have the access and we rely very much on them to ensure there is no transfer of IP and no abuse of that."

As long as it’s not done by espionage, it’s all ok, but going by what Horner has said it would of been impossible for the to reverse engineer some of the parts they have in the time frame.
Horner is a muppet. How many of the Mercedes powertrain staff have RB poached? How good is the unbranded Honda powerunit now? Pot, kettle, black.

True, they tinkered about with the cars after FP2 in Miami and made it worse, hopefully they wont this time.
Sky F1 said Mercedes can turn porposing on and off when they want now. Which implies they have got to the root of the issue and resolved it.
Where do you draw the line though? If someone comes up with a wing shape and you look into it and the optimal shape is the one the other car has, you're suggesting they should build a less good part so that it looks a bit different?
Well its the same as IP in business. Patents exist for precisely this reason.
Very promising for Mercedes, we'll known an awful lot more about where they are now tomorrow.
They could always turn it on or off when they wanted, only at more of a cost to performance than the other teams.

Hamilton did say there is some porposing in the corners which they are hoping to dial out but no porposing on the straights anymore.
Also Mercedes were running regular engine mode yesterday and ferrari and RB weren't. So when ferrari and RB turn the engines up for qually id expect to see a bigger gap to the mercs.

I did not see that bit, but when would you want to turn it on ? I would of thought you wanted rid of it 100% of the time.
I imagine it is more of being able to understand what causes it, so when they do setup adjustments, they don’t reintroduce it.
Knowing when and what causes it, means they can steer clear of it or at least ride the car right on the limit to get the max performance from it.

Yep, "being able to turn it on and off" in engineering is a way to prove to your boss / the customer / whoever is annoyed that you understand the problem and what you need to do to fix it.
