Why on earth did they wait for him to lose 5 seconds and then pit him? Hamilton was on around 7 seconds, and when he entered the pits he was one second behind.

Worked well for Alonso, he’s almost back to the position he was before he pitted, with a bit of clear air ahead.
If he can hold up the cars behind and hang in there, it could be a good move. Depends on pace on those hards.

Merc can look at all the data on the hard tyre and have both options of a 1 and 2 stop available. They’re in a strong tactical position.
