When have you ever seen the reverse?

Thiago agrees personal terms with Liverpool, now Liverpool will talk to Bayern.

Are you for real?

Usually clubs agree personal terms with a player easier (and hence earlier) than than they agree the transfer sum with the selling club. Are you really debating that? With a laughing smiley no less?

Because, of course, usually, at least for top players, the player actually wants the move more than the club he's at.

Well because it is not true. The reason they are insisting on a pay cut or departure is because they cannot register their new signings to play in La Liga with his salary on the books. They are hardly going to not register Lewa and Raphina and so if push comes to shove they won't register Frenkie so yes he will be left out of the team.
I feel like it's incredibly doubtful that they don't register Frenkie. They would find a way as they somehow always manage to... He just isn't worth the current wage and is worth more as a sale than as a Barca player to them, is the ultimate thing.

Also a thing to note for those freaking out about Frenkie so far - Messi last year formally announced he wouldn't stay at Barca on August 5th and he joined PSG on August 10th. So we've got a couple of weeks until that point anyway for a somewhat similar situation.

He would be an absolute mug to take those new conditions with Barcelona, and they look terrible for forcing him into this position, whilst also making lots of new signings. Utter dickweeds.

He should take it as a huge compliment that we're basically making him our number one priority for the Summer window. His situation at Barcelona is untenable. They're not suddenly going to increase his contract in the future and may even force him to reduce it again the next Summer. The deal and situation that he thought he had at Barcelona is over, it's all changed.
Completely agree but loves the club "apparently"

United need to walk away now. Buy another player and distance themselves from this circus. If FDJ does agree to a huge pay cut to stay at Barca when we are the only the option, it makes us look rediculous. We would never live without t down.

That brief still means nothing.

Are they prepared to pay him off if he leaves? Because if not, nothing has really changed.

id imagine they would be facing a deadline to register their players.

Chelsea (the saviours of football) fan.
He's already incredibly rich, a multi millionaire. On the new deal he'll earn an obscene sum. He'll earn more millions after Barcelona. If he invests wisely those millions will earn him more millions whilst barely doing anything in retirement.

So how will that extra £20 million really make a difference to his life.

You're thinking as a guy who earns regular money and is considering dropping his salary by 10k to keep a job.

I'm not saying he should take the new deal by the way. Totally upto him isn't it.

But if he leaves he likely won't get the deferred wages and he maybe should think himself slightly lucky to get such a ridiculous wage in the first place.

If he really wants to stay he should. As you say, life/career can be short. Considering that I find it crazy to let money control your decisions when you've already got more money than any rational human can spend.
He's being asked by a club that is making loads of signings, spending millions upon millions to give up money owed to him. It's an outrageous request.

Similar here. As of right now they are miles over the salary cap but the first league game is not until August 12th. They will keep wheeling and dealing up to that point but as of right now the magic bullet is to get Frenkie off the payroll and so all their efforts will be focused there.

Are you debating that every single time a transfer deal is agreed, the fecking headlines read ”subject to personal terms & medical”?

Barcelona play in a few hours time

If he gets another 45mins or more then surely Xavi sees him as part of his plans, even if it is at CB

Pull the butt plug and move on. Plenty of other quality midfielders out there. We can't have McFred next season or I'll start crying.

Because our offer is still on the table and they are forcing him to take the offer.
They can’t force shit. If he’s as adamant he aint going United as they say, it’d be absolutely foolhardy to leave themselves looking like morons and likely getting completely fleeced by a club he wants and who know they are desperate to sell, especially closer to the end of the window.

I'm 35. I work in what everyone classifies as "IT" despite not working in IT, but my job is so unbelievably boring that it's not worth explaining to folk. I have four kids which means that TV time consists of Moana on repeat and outdoor time involves standing around in a park watching someone go down a slide three million fecking times.

I have to spend most of my day nodding and maintaining a minimal level of attentiveness whenever my missus talks about some mundane shite she had an argument with someone about, and watch drab horror and sci-fi movies just to ensure I can get my hole three times a week and not be forced to sleep on the couch with the dog.

If my life was a colour it would be the most tepid grey you've ever seen. Muppet Transfer Season is all some of us have. Don't be evil. Don't take it away from us.
Don’t post much these days but that deserves a green smiley!

For me the fact that Arnold and Big John went over there personally still is a big sign for me that its all ready to go when Frenkie and Barca sort their shit out.

What are the chances that the Spanish courts might force reduced wages on Frenkie as a matter of national interest?

This will be a significant blotch on the beginning of the new Arnold / Murtough era if the signing isn't secured. Expect further protests this season.

You're being obtuse. At that point, obviously, the player has agreed to sign a contract whose fine print isn't quite done. I think it's reasonable to assume that that's not the status of the Frenkie to Man United transfer.

Register or not, they have to honour the contract, so what difference does it make? It's financially ruinous for them should he stay. Informing him of anything doesn't supersede what was signed.

Or are you saying for the sake of him playing actual football? Which I think is absolutely the last thing either party care about at the moment.

Sitting tight until the World Cup and forgoing a season doesn't seem unlikely when there's so much at stake - are Barcelona prepared to test his constitution in such a way whilst it could do so much harm to them?

No, you are being obtuse.

You say every other club would do something, but apparently not United. You’re “proof” is a journo saying exactly what a journo says every fecking time a transfer fee is agreed with a club, that “personal terms and medical are remaining”.

I think considering his agent has actually been at Carrington the past few week with another client, it’s safe to fecking say that United have spoken to him and agreed on an outline of a package if the deal goes through, because as you say, that’s what all clubs do.

But yeah, United don’t cause they are thick as shit or something. I imagine they didn’t even realise that bloke was Frenkie’s agent and didn’t think to even discuss it with him :houllier:

At this point in this saga, only one of these two statements can be true.

1. EtH knows he's coming, it's just a matter of when
2. We are the biggest mugs in all of sports
