Vincent Kompany relegates Burnley; lands himself the managerial role for one of the biggest clubs in the world in Bayern Munich. :wenger:

Do we have any others as epic as this, player or managerial? The leap in standing is mind-blowing.

Julian Faubert moving from West Ham to Real Madrid on loan.

Actually, around that time Madrid carried out some strange signings during those few years, Faubert, Adebayor, Essiem, Hernandez and Varela.

He actually held them back massively ever since his initial two titles. That falling upwards is pretty unprecedented. Like for most Norwegians it is still absurd that he ever got the job, despite overall doing a mlre than acceptable job

Choupo-Moting has fallen upwards his entire career

Bebe from Lord-knows-where to United
Was just about to say surely nothing could beat Bebe struggling in the third tier portuguese league to United, or that young lad from China who hadn't done anything and Fergie put him in the team to walk through Chelsea's guard of honour.

Dong Fangzhuo was a strange one too. He wasn't exactly lighting it up in China before we bought him. 2 goals from 18 appearances in the Chinese second division, 0 in 8 in the top-flight. 0 youth caps.

"When I rang the owner and said that United had called and that he always knew that this had been my dream, he said: 'Go over, enjoy yourself - and please don't come back’,” said Solskjaer.

Thought the saying was "failing upwards"?!

Southgate. Got Middlesborough relegated and got the sack. Took 4 years out of the game then got the England u21 job. Did a shit job there too but somehow landed the England senior job by accident when Allardyce turned out to be as bent as a nine bob note.

And might end up getting the United job.

Not as obvious as some of the others mentioned, but it just seemed so unfair that Frank Lebouef, a very average player, suddenly found himself starting the World Cup final as a brilliant Blanc was suspended.

Reminds me that Matterazzi getting Nestas glory in 2006 annoyed me

That is probably the closest you will get to this Kompany hiring. Great player with very little managerial hired by a big club who has no association with said player but the player have an association to a style of play the club want to emulate.

Worked out well for Barca I suppose
