Pretty sure previous two players we bought from Dortmund weren't match fit for couple of months when we signed them. It's weird, and hopefully it won't be the case with Sancho, but there's obviously different set of being match fit when some players come here from lesser leagues.
As long as they don't pan out the way our other attacking mids did from there.
If even Greenwood does, we'll really have to stop shopping there :wenger:

Did I watch the same game? The periods we were on top, he combined brilliantly with AWB in a way I haven't seen from our right side in years. He's not slow, but he's not really a runner either. He should clearly start the next game, but our fans need to start showing more support to our players. The same thing happened before Bruno played, with people almost willing him to be average for us, until he proved he was on another level. He didn't play badly, he was ok, just like any normal player would be in that situation. Again, he's not slow he likes to get on the ball, combine with teammates and create chances.

We always do this "easing in" bollocks.

Look at Chelsea today. Lukaku thrown in, dominates and scores.
I’ll be a rare one who agrees.

Only way to get match fitness is to play. Giving them 20 mins in the first few matches is a much slower way of getting from point A to point B

I’d just throw them in the deep end and accept that a few dodgy moments might happen to begin with. We could then have had everyone up to scratch for the Wolves game

He's going to get the Pogba treatment on here, sadly.

Ole is also an idiot for not starting him today. He's not got to get bedded in with 20 minutes once a week.

I agree too. We're only playing once a week, let him start FFS. Either that, or don't expose him by bringing him on in an away game with 20 mins to go, with the whole team playing like shite and needing a goal.

Am I alone in thinking he doesn't look in peak physical shape? Whenever I've looked at him (pre-United as well) he's struck me as a player who might get another five percent of explosiveness if he puts in the extra hours in the gym. Might just way the way he's built, he just doesn't look quite lean enough to me for a guy who's supposed to be dribbling at pace.

It's like people are forgetting this isn't Lukaku's first go around in the premier League.
Yeah, Lukaku is one of the best strikers in the world whereas with Sancho we’re paying for potential and it may take him a season to adapt - look at Havertz etc

Lukaku bundled in his goal today like he was reaching for his dropped bag of doughnuts, it was hardly like we were watching prime van Basten.

Aye, thought he looked a bit chubby in the face in recent training pics.

I know it’s been mocked on here, but him insisting on five weeks holiday was a bit of a warning sign (deliberately not using “red flag”…) around his mentality. He should have been itching to join up with the boys in training.

It won’t be the first time his attitude has been brought into question (he turned up late for Dortmund pre season in the past)

Not saying I’m super worried, but there should be an element of caution in assuming this guy sorts out our issues in attack.

Giving him 20 mins in both games so far gives him little chance of getting a goal contribution which I think is key for a new signing confidence wise. Poor management.

Not long after coming on we had two well worked chances come through him on the right-hand side. I thought it's so good to have someone there instead of the randomness of James but then he moved positions and the whole team seem to lose momentum, whether connected or not I can see him doing very well on the right. We know he's probably best on the left but today I think we should've stayed offering quality on both sides for longer.

I’m pleased that the reactions to Sancho’s substitute appearances have been measured.
Yeah bit over the top on here. He sure hasn't set the world alight in his cameos so far though that's for sure. Hope he starts the next game

How he managed to not play James and bench Sancho is beyond me. I tend to agree that a seasoned manager throws his markee signings straight in. No point in messing about. Get him up and running asap by giving me maximum minutes.

That five weeks was actually three and a half and he was sick before joining ffs.

At that price, you're not just paying for potential, Sancho is one of the most productive creators out there in the game. Now granted it's in the Bundesliga which is tailor made for offensive players to pad their stats out a bit, but you still can't deny that level of production anywhere. He's more than just a potential player, he's a very impactful player already, but he might need some time and adjustment to his new teammates for that to show.

He will be fine, people do need to drop expectations and give him time.

And those who expected world-class performances from the off with him instantly transforming our attack are bound to be disappointed.

Keep a clean shit tomorrow, United is my final bus
I was hoping for our sake he'd have a Rooney like introduction. It does look like there will be a bedding in period though, which isn't a criticism. But I expected we will need his invention on the pitch this season where we are tactically constipated and need inspiration.

Hopefully he starts the next game.

It's frustrating how we managed to get our star players signed early and it's been 2 games and neither have played a full 90 yet(I'm aware of the Varane visa issues).

People are acting as if he's been terrible in his little cameos. In his two half hour appearances, his play has been neat and refined, and he got into excellent positions in the last game. Link up play has been good too. Yeah, he hasn't rinsed 3 defenders and set hearts racing yet, but give him time. He's not started a game yet and he's moving from a league which is much more comfortable for attackers.

Has Amad looked better than Sancho in their first few appearances for the club?

I'd say so, but both have had classy moments full of promise. Sancho seems a bit more assured in terms of the level and pace, but Amad showed brilliant skill as well and presses intensely.

Exactly this! There was a moment in the 2nd half during one of those combo's you mention in your post I genuinely thought it was a move someone like man city would make. He's going to be great for us, lets just hope Ole starts him next match.

But you know if Amad had put in a performance like Sancho yesterday he'd be slaughtered by a selective few. That isn't a criticism of Sancho, though, who needs to be given time which is normal for any new player.

Grealish > Sancho, sadly.

Absolute media hype. Think he got overrated because he played in farmer's league. Couldnt even get a game for England.

Not a generational talent. Definitely not the next Ronaldinho either. exits thread

With Amad it is just dumb bias and cliché. He isnt ready, he's too lightweight etc and all that jazz. He has it against him, Ole not playing him doesnt help either.

Looks finished at the highest level
Still tidy on the ball but the legs have gone. Should be keeping his eyes open to not miss out on a decent pundit job when it's available. I'm sure he could provide valuable insights where Haaland will sign his last big contract next season.

And it was like what ? their first match together ? they need to bond more and play more together

Jadon pass the ball through to AWB that almost assisted to Bruno with that header.

We need more of those and a lot of double passes between those 2 to break a low block.

Imagine what will happen when Rashy will come back - our wings will be fire
