It was good to see him looking confident again, I thought he had a strong and composed game that seemed to really shake off the cobwebs that gathered after those batch of stinkers.

He did fine today which is good as when I saw his name on the team sheet I wasn't happy.
I seriously doubted he would be back in so quick after the shambles at westham.
Hopefully he builds on this and regains his form and shuts all the doubters and critics up, and I include myself in that too!

I do not see how discussing Evans' forward runs is pointless. It is something that could cost us in future games.

Like I said, I am a fan of Evans. I think he is a terrific young defender, but I do have concerns over this particular aspect of his game. I don't like it.

this is a very weird post.

you know its totally natural for a defender to bring the ball out right?

Very neat performance from Evans yesterday, a little premature to suggest he's out of his slump in form, but a very good step forward. Loved the 2 times he pushed through midfield and so unlucky with that header.

Brilliant management from Ferguson, hopefully the injury wasn't too bad probably just a knock.

I think yesterday in particular it was really effective. I love having a centre-half who isn't afraid to bring the ball up through the centre of the park, it always comes with an element of surprise, gives you an extra man and makes space, just as it did yesterday. So many of the best centre-halves around have done/do it. I don't think we need to worry about experienced players like Rio and Carrick plugging the gap if he loses it.

I don't know why Smalling didn't start today. He has partnered Vidic often this season and they've looked good together. We were a mess today.

Smalling should have been in the 18, not Evans. He's consistently played better and more often. Evans isn't why we lost, but throwing him into our back four eliminates any confidence they have.

Hilariously in the match day thread he was getting blamed for both goals, despite the first cross clearing his head by about 5 feet and the 2nd caused by a missed header from Vidic when defending infront of the near post. Ihni binni dimi diniwiny anitaime will blame him for todays result but he was no worse than Evra, Vidic, Carrick, Rooney or Berbatov

Vidic was worse today.

He was playing for two.

Evans lacks concentration and doesn't inspire confidence with the rest of the back four. How Smalling or O'Shea didn't get a start ahead of him is baffeling.

Johnny Evans is not good enough for United's starting eleven, end of.

Hmm...TBH I don't think it was his fault today.

The back four were far too exposed by the ineptitude of our central midfielders to protect them. The Wolves players pressed us high and had so much space to run that our defenders were always fighting a losing battle. Think today was one of those days that we'd have benefited by playing 4-5-1. Especially with the shite pitch having a packed midfield and thus shorter passing would've helped us keep possession better.

Evans wasn't great but there were far worse players out there.

Post it as many times as you like, he's just not good enough

Really disappointing season from him. Can still make it though assuming it wasn't just one good season.

Unfair to pinpoint the loss on him, but seriously, It feels uneasy having Evans at the back. You don't get the same calmness you get with Smalling thats for sure.

He can still make it, but he needs to progress a lot faster.

There was this moment where Wolves cleared the ball and Doyle somehow managed to not only win the physical battle with Evans but take the ball to feet and run with it. He really really needs to work on his strength. And when he's not being bullied he gets desparate and concedes fouls. The answer isn't aggression, it's physical strength and using your physique better.

He's just not dependable at this point. He'll come back from it at some point, but for now choosing Smalling over Evans when one of our first choice CBs are unavailable, is going to be one of the keys to use being successful this season.

Lost too many important headers this season. Shouldnt be pointed out today though. Apart from Nani everyone was pretty shit.

That's so overboard. This kid was brilliant up until a year ago, considered the best young centre back prospect in the PL. He's lost form but class is permanent and all that.

He'll be a class act by the time he's 26 or 27. Patience.

He's the obvious scapegoat here, as most people will assume "world class players" like Vidic, van der Sar, Evra and Rooney weren't at fault (newsflash they were... Rooney's slopping passing helped set up the second Wolves goal) Jonny Evans gave two strong performances against Liverpool and Southampton, while Smalling had three games in a row and managed to slip down the pecking order. I believe Evans won his place back on merit.

If you're not a first teamer you have to fight to be a backup player, in recent weeks Evans outperformed Smalling with more confidence displays.

United lost 4-0 to the worst team in the league, and a side that would struggle in the Championship, with both in the back four, so really the key to sucess has nothing to do with imposing an automatic backup. If Fergie was as kneejerk as some, he'd dump Wes Brown in there despite an obvious lack of matchfitness.
