Jose Mourinho joins Sky Sports

Mourinhos segmentation of a defensive block is a great revelation to problems we will face unless the players are coached movement in possession.

Liverpool / City are the only teams in the league comfortable transitioning through compressed defences,i simply down to the extent of coaching and their diversity in wide areas.

This is why Ole needs to shown to have learnt from the two Wolves defeat last season, if we can successfully break wolves down without leaving pockets of space in behind it will set a good blueprint against all the teams that intend to just sit deep and scrape results.
 
This was one of those rare occasions where I watched post match analysis and actually learned something. Mourinho is clearly a very smart guy that really understands football. He's had a hugely successful career. I absolutely couldn't stand him as Utd manager. I hated his style of football and think he has a toxic personality. But you'd be a fool to not see that he talks a lot of sense, and has very detail insight into the game. He made Souness look like an absolute dinosaur.

With the City B remark Mourinho had a dig against 3 managers at once: Guardiola for having it easy, and Ole and Lampard for being very far from challenging for the title. Typical Jose.

Well the other 2 was moyes and lvg so there wasn’t much competition. He was either gonna be the 2nd worst or 1st worst.
 
Skysports are definitely milking this opportunity using Mourinho.

At least we got a good proper football analysis. He's actually good at it when he's not emotional, and interesting to listen to.
Many points of his are fair, but I just don't agree.

Tbf he then went on about how good city are at defending. If anything it was a dig at Uniteds board for not investing.

He's a good analyst but you see how him and Neville are about 10 years modern football with their whole 'Teams are too naive these days, they attack well but blablabla"

They still haven't understood that being offensively sound like Norwich or Chelsea will get you much more points than being good in big games because you are man marking everyone and playing inside your box, but squandering the Burnley, Cardiff 3 points because you don't have the offensive system to beat them.

Souness says "its not rocket science" every time. In other words, theories like four stages of play, like Jose said yesterday; In possession, out of possession, transition to attack, transition to defence... These to Souness are new-fangled notions that were not around in his day. To Jose - it seems - these are basics of the game. Neville and Carra were on edge, trying to keep up, and very deferential. It was a fascinating watch. Interesting too, how the presenter said "there are some places we can't go". Clearly Mou doesn't want to slag of a former owner or CEO 'cos he doesn't want a record like that at the next job. He was box office, for sure, highly knowledgeable, a fantastic speaker (how many languages does he speak?). Interesting points too by Gary Neville.

I mean I kept thinking about "what if Pogba still played for us" when Yaya Toure was running riot in the PL and then one day he comes back and we all got our answers.

Can't fathom how you guys must feel everytime you see KDB and Salah. Not like they ever wanted to leave Chelsea! Mourinho and Chelsea were the biggest losers there.

This isn't true for promoted sides. That stats show that the sides that concede possession do better than those that do not.

Ironic considering City's defending is all about their collective press when they lose the ball.

Something Jose's teams have never been good at.
 
Despite the hate some people might have, I always remembered him as an excellent pundit. Back in the days he did a couple of Euro 2004 matches at Portuguese TV and i t was one of the best match comments ever. No off-topics, no useless talk about last season stats, player career, personal lives, etc.

Totally focused on game talk and showing some emotion according to match happenings.

To add further you must have been shitting yourselves with the Martial/Willian swap rumours last summer?

Salah is a tiny bit bearable due to the fact i think just how good he is is in a big part due to Klopp's system (and he was pretty average for us) however KDB is the worst, he started with a MOTM performance then was inexplicable dropped because of a quiet game at OT and his comments about Mount yesterday proves he has learned absolutely nothing from that situation. The one i don't blame him for is Lukaku (he wanted too many assurances he wasn't good enough for) which is rather ironic given he's the one he reunited with.

However thankfully we seem to have (learned from it) because i genuinely believe Mount, James, Ampadu and CHO are the real deals and seeing homegrown Chelsea boys at rivals (where wthey will end up if not with us) would have been 1000x worse.
 
Came across as intelligent. You could see the gulf in class between him, Souness and Neville. I really rate Carragher as well to be honest. Souness and Neville are just tired and repeating bs

I have some knowledge about statistics and people just ignore the 'endogeneity' part in football.

People will often say "This side had more possession but they lost" It really grinds my gears, because most of the time the side has more possession because they are losing, not the other way around :lol:. It gets mentioned so much that I gave up on this fight.

Great punditry from Jose, as usual. I really enjoyed that. His knowledge of the game always flows through. Like someone said earlier, he singlehandedly raised the IQ of that panel yesterday. I love seeing managers as pundits, people who've gone beyond the theoretical (not sure what to say about Souness though). I remember John Toshack was like that - not liked much, excellent pundit.

Half true. Mourinho actually wanted to keep both players, but both of them said they wanted to be a part of starting team. KDB was an easy guess because everytime he played you could see the potential, but Salah rise was surprising for everyone because he is now a different player from his Chelsea years. Salah benefited a lot from having Spalletti as a manager who is one of the few italian managers who plays attacking football and he knows how to make attacking players flourish.

Note to moderator: he means to include the word "behind". Jose and Neville are ten years out of touch with Norwich and Chelsea football styles, according to the poster. I don't necessarily agree, just wanted help clarify what he/she was saying

Moving them on was entirely justified from Mourinho's perspective in the short term. They won the league the year they left and he didn't have a role for them in the squad.
 
thought he was excellent and very insightful, Souness looked even more clueless sat next to him

his comments about starting young players were quite telling though, and showed why he isn't a good manager for the long term

For what it's worth, Neville's analysis was almost identical. It just that he used simpler terminology to explain the gaps being left by Rashford.

Jose was correct with his comment as well. But because he sounded a bit more hipster, you're going to get loads of posters proclaiming his to be God's gift to punditry.
