The decisive week

Hi everyone,

It's been almost like a summer Sunday here in Manchester and we are happy after the score against Norwich. Now we are ready to start the last Premier League week of the season. It's time to make the last effort in pursuit of the fourth spot that we all want, and then we will work as hard as we can for the FA Cup final on the 21st.

We are in good spirits after winning in Carrow Road. With Norwich fighting against relegation, it wasn't the most beautiful game we've played; it was a tough one, but in the second half we showed that we wanted those three points and I was lucky to help the team with a goal. It's true that Norwich brings me good memories: I have scored several times against them, including my first goal in England. Saturday's goal, and that's the main thing, shows that we are eager to keep working, that we remain confident until the end. It may turn profitable when the season is over. It was a very important win to keep us in the fight for the Champions League, even more after the draw between City and Arsenal.

There is no time for celebrations though, since we have another game on Tuesday as difficult as the one on Saturday, or even more. It's against West Ham, our last away game of the Premiership. It's going to be special: the last official game at the Boleyn Ground, where West Ham has been playing for 112 years. With that image of Sir Bobby Moore, it's a place that breathes English football... it will be an honour to be there and try to get the last win. West Ham has been a tough opponent this season. We know them well because we've played against them in the FA Cup too. They are in the seventh position by a combination of effort and talent, not by chance.

Then, on Sunday, we will play the last home game of the season. It's always nice to have this farewell in front of our supporters, because we owe them so much. This time it will be even more special because they give us strength for the Wembley final. The game on the 15th is against Bournemouth. They have escaped relegation and will be looking forward to get an important score in Old Trafford.

The next week, the main leagues in other countries will be over too. Congratulations to Bayern, who won the German title this weekend. In Spain we have to wait until the last game to see who wins. It's now between Barcelona and Real Madrid after Atlético's defeat, perhaps a consequence of the effort in the Champions League - by the way, we will have a Spanish final. Things are also very tight at the bottom of the table, with three teams fighting to avoid relegation. The last week is going to be absolutely thrilling...

The worst news this week has been the death of a colleague in a football game: Patrick Ekeng, of Dinamo Bucharest, after collapsing on the pitch during a Romanian league match. My condolences to his beloved ones.

Lastly, I'd like to thank those of you who have participated on my website's quiz. Many of you got it right! The raffle is already done so I invite you to check the list of winners (http://juanmata8.com/en/new/juan-matas-quiz-we-have-the-winners) to see if your name is there. I can see that you like this kind of contests so we will have some more in the future!

Have a nice week. Hugs!

Juan

Not sure why you guys abusing him. He was one of the better players tonight. Martial's first goal I thought came from his clever work?!

At least he played better than CAF's favourite ander...not that it was hard to do it mind.

You deserved it! #WeAreUnited

Hi everyone,

My first trophy with United, finally! It took quite a few years for the club to win the FA Cup again, that special and unique tournament, and last Saturday we made it... Being able to win this Cup for you, after your unconditional support throughout the entire season, makes me feel absolutely happy and proud. You deserved it, for sure. The road to the final wasn't easy at all. And the same can be said about the game against Crystal Palace: it was thrilling, like a big final is meant to be. For everyone familiar with English football, I'm not revealing any secret by saying that this competition is different, genuine, and so it is the final at Wembley, with its amazing atmosphere. We saw it just a couple of days ago. The FA Cup final is an unforgettable experience: the organisation, the pre-match show, the tension during the game... Luckily for me, I have been involved in two and both of them ended up with me lifting the trophy. I feel privileged for that.

I have to say that 10 minutes before the end of the game things looked pretty different. After Puncheon's goal for Palace we didn't have much time to react. Luckily, Wayne made a great play, then came Felli's assist and I scored to take the game into the extra-time. Things got complicated again after Chris being sent off, but then it happened: Jesse scored a fantastic goal to get us the title and finish the season in the best possible way: celebrating with you one more title in this club's unbelievable history. It was a fantastic feeling: the season in the Premier League was not as good as we expected but, after going through some difficult moments, we never gave up and kept working to increase the club's record. I think we have to give value to the fact that it took 12 years for the club to win again the FA Cup.

I take this opportunity to congratulate other Cup winners of the weekend: Bayern, Juventus, PSG, Braga, Barcelona... There were very exciting games all around Europe!

As you can imagine, this is the blog's last entry of the season and I would like to thank you once again for your support, your commitment and your time to read these lines every Monday, wherever you are... I started this blog some years ago and it wouldn't make sense to write it if it wasn't for you. A million thanks for your support in this long and, at times, difficult season. I tried to pay you back with dedication and commitment to the team, always trying to give my best. I can highlight a few moments: for instance, I wore the armband of both Manchester United and Spain's national team, I played almost 60 games, more than 100 in total as a Red Devil (I was very lucky not to get injured), I enjoyed great moments like this first title with the club, I learnt from the bad moments, and I felt your affection. It's because of those things that I want to carry on and look forward to share more good moments with you.

It's time for me to take a rest, switch off from football and recharge my batteries for the next season. I hope you have a great summer.

Hugs to all!

Juan

Don't know if Juan reads Redcafe. If he did, I would want to thank him for his creativity and committment, his honesty of effort and being a general all round good egg. And wish him success in the new set up. This ain't Chelsea.

So, if he goes to City or Pool, do you still wish him success?

Juan's Alternative Blog

I'd like to say congratulations to LVG for making it through to the grand final of Cnut of the Year. Sadly he has lost at the last minute to some Portuguese tosser who looks like a cross between a giant dick and a massive arsehole - which probably explains how he was able to spectacularly feck himself at Chelsea.

It's pretty clear that I'm not going to be at the club next season so I'd also like to take this opportunity to thank each and every one of you for your support. Especially James Watson of 52 Bloomfield Drive, who I'm sure has not told the authorities about that incident he didn't see at Wings Chinese restaurant when I didn't hold Mark Clattenburg down and choke him with a chicken satay skewer.

So, thank you all and I hope you still enjoy watching me play with my new team; Wormwood Scrubs Prison. But first I need to pay a quick visit to the new United manager...

Hugs, Juan.

Looking for the answers...
Genuinely like Mata as a bloke, and I hope he is at least given a chance under Jose. The past is the past, and I don't want to see him go as the default position before giving Jose the chance to view him in United's team/squad.

He's done nothing wrong here, just like he did nothing wrong at Chelsea. A superb player and role model who if he leaves will do so with his reputation intact. Which begs the question, how much of a bargain are we going to give someone and how much more will we end up paying for an inferior replacement?

If the United negotiators were grown ups, I said if, then there would have been a whole raft of conditions and ground rules laid before Jose got the gig. One should have been; mend fences

That is a pretty weird question. Not good enough for City, and we wont sell to Liverpool.
We never expected he would go to our closest rival too though. I am not saying he will move to one of those 2 clubs though, even I feel it is very unlikely. Just that stranger things have happened in the world of football.

yeah. good idea. for 15m a year he should be doing lots more around the club and means we can get rid of a few staff on the payroll.

This one wont happen though. If he stays in England, then never a top 4 club. They werent even interested in him the first time, why now? From the Chlesea bench for 37m to United is something different than United to Liverpool or City. United to Liverpool is impossible and to City highly unlikely. He would sit on the bench there and not what Pep needs/wants, he has alraedy a better player there in Silva.

Thanks for considering us as your closest rival.

José's assassinated him. I've no evidence for this but it's the thought that counts.
