We still need to see Case and Sab together. Sab will be much better in that set up.
I don’t know. Casmeiro needs a partner who can take some passing / buildup burden off him. Sabitzer seems the player who will force Casemeiro to have to be more expansive than he should be.

To me it seems people are in favour of this because he seems likeable and a keen professional more than anything

I thought it was his quietest game todate.. doesnt help when very player is at 4/10 levels in effort.
neat finish which im sure he enjoyed. He aint a 6 but we need him to be.

Personally I think we need two CMs who can help us build from deep with an ability to playmake or pass between the lines. With Fred, Casmeiro and Sabitzer I think we’d have too many mediocre or inconsistent passers (Casemiro can be very good but also play random terribly misplaced ones).

And with Sabitzer signed I don’t think we can afford it. It just leaves us too heavy on the not a possession team side which we desperately need to get out of. If we didn’t have Fred I’d take him but we do.
I don't think we need 2 playmaking CM's. Sabitzer is hardly a great player, but I think he has some quality, and binning McT and Donny for a budget option like Sabitzer and a new playmaking CM would be a massive upgrade. We need a striker (and arguably a GK and a RB) too after all.

No I don’t think so. I think if the shape is better he’ll start playmaking. He’s just back from a knock and the team was a shambles with McT in there - he has no clue where to stand when our back line is trying to play out.

I think Sab is much better on the ball than we’ve seen yet. If I’m wrong then I’ll agree we need to look elsewhere. Having said that, he is much better than McT whichever way you look at it.

The perfect squad player. Versatile midfielder with great workrate and an eye for a goal. Can’t have too many of those with the schedule these days.

He's alright isn't he. We rarely seem to have control when he plays, but he does seem to keep getting played with McTominay so you have two quite similar players there that aren't technical maestros or ones that want to keep picking the ball up from the back. So I think he's being dealt a bit of a tough hand in that partnership.

But he's still finding ways to contribute. Whether it's just putting a shift in, being neat and tidy, chipping in a goal. Not too bad. Could be a good man for these 60 game seasons.

I thought the game bypassed him for a lot of it . Delighted he got his goal though . He’s going to get a lot more game time from now on

I still don't really know what he is, which isn't a great sign.

Personally I dont see what he brings to the team. Missing most of the game, didnt help control the midfield either. We need to look above these levels if we want to compete for the premier league. He cant cover for Eriksen or Casemiro completely, somewhere in the middle which we already have in Scott and Fred.

Rather we sign 2 CM a ball playing midfielder who helps control tempo and a proper DM to backup for Casemiro.

Bruno/Amad
Eriksen/CM Casemiro/DCM
No chance we'll bring in 3 midfielders.

To be honest, he has been pretty quiet in all games he has started. I wish he would impact the game a bit more, but he's been kind of invisible. Fred manages to get more involved, and while Sabitzer has been ok, he hasn't done enough yet to hope for a contract. Still time, though.

In an era when club supporters crave specialists, there's still room in the game for a solid all-rounder like Sabitzer.

He's alright. Obviously a competent footballer. But he's not as good as Fred because he can't get any grip on the midfield. He looks a little lost at the pace of the game here. In his favour he hasn't played much yet, and when he does we're usually in chaos mode. So final verdicts will wait for a couple of months.

I wouldn't be throwing £20m at anyone for him unless he significantly improves. I'd rather use that to contribute to a genuine world class midfielder, and maybe add a freebie like Tielemans in there for depth.

Where did he play at Leipzig? Was he central? Must confess I'm confused as to what his best position is. He isn't nearly as good a passer as I'd anticipated, but is more physical than I'd thought.

He's a ball winner who can pass and shoot. Its weird seeing posts by people saying they dont know what he is. In every start he's been exactly that. Worked to win the ball, when hes had it he's tried to play some forward passes and he likes to have a shot because he's scored goals in the past.

For us he's an alternative to Fred who has had several seasons of scoring 8 or 9 goals. Fred has sometimes played deeper in the past, but these days and at times under the previous manager he gets used further forward. And from that position Sabitzer could get plenty of goals whilst doing the closing down/ball winning

Much better player than McT and has shown more in a few weeks than DvB ever did. More composed and adventurous on the ball than both of them, and capable of getting a foot in. Not the sort to run around harassing the opposition like Fred, but he's not a liability like him either. Obv not as smooth as Case, but IMO he's a Steady Eddie, scoring a 6-7 every game with the occasional 8.

I'd have him on the shortlist as a squad option next season for sure. Don't know how high his ceiling is, but I think he's good enough to help us win a few key games as this season draws to a close. Can't be sure how much Eriksen is going to bring, and McT can't be relied on.

I rate him. For £15-20m I think he's a clear upgrade on both McTominay (who will hopefully be sold in the summer, along with Donny) and Fred (who I'm fine with as a squad player for now).

Sabitzer and a new starting CM would leave us with Casemiro, New CM, Eriksen, Bruno, Sabitzer and Fred as midfield options going into next season.
He is a better player than McTominay but plays in different position, he's another CM who plays more advanced role. Would probably fit better in classic 433.
If we sell McTominay we still need someone who plays his role for us, Sabitzer isn't that.

How he's a "clear upgrade" on Fred?

Right now we have one top class CM in Casemiro and 4 midfielders who should be squad players (Eriksen, Fred, Sabitzer, McTominay). We also have van de Beek who actually looks the closest to Sabitzer type of player. I don't see a strong reason to go for Sabitzer. "He's cheap" isn't a strong reason. I would be fine with it but don't see him getting a lot of playing time ahead of Eriksen and Fred, and I assume we will bring at least one midfielder this summer.
