Weird claim..He kept changing positions with Greenwood. Swapped over to the right wing after the odd 20 something mins. Both his goal and the cross which resulted in an own goal came when he wasn't playing left wing.

Already commented to the person above you who made the same claim. You're taking it way too literal

You're taking this way too literal. Of course he didn't literally score a goal while he was standing on the left-wing - that would be some effort. His overall game was much improved from starting out there. He may not even have been in that position if he had started from the right.

He's clearly much better on the left. It's just objectively true.

He's averaged a goal or assist ever 93 minutes this season according to Transfermarkt.

He has been consistent for United. But for some reason he takes the brunt of the criticism whenever the team drops points. Hopefully he'll get the credit he deserves today.
Looks like he didn’t. Didn’t see that coming.

Narrator: "He did not"

This isn't a comment on you personally because I haven't seen any of your posts, but that's a very charitable way of looking at some of the stuff people say about him on here.
I've not written a lot and most of it was good I hope but I've seen some idiotic opinions expressed regards Marcus Rashford MBE and I can only assume (and hope) that they're opposition fans on a wind up sometimes.

Not just that, they are part of this player fan groups, which means you have to shit on other player to make the player you worship look good.

That people are boiling this down to which position he plays in, and using the performance against Southampton as an example of why he should always play in the left.

Well...he should always play on the left. That's his best position. That's where he has his best games. That's not to say he's flawless on the left and never makes mistakes, but he is objectively worse on the right. That's indisputable. It's way more natural for him to play on the left and drift in centrally.

And no - people are not only using this game, but his career up until this point to come to that conclusion. He's also good at playing centrally, but my original post (the one you replied to) was saying how him playing on the right doesn't work. I don't know what issue you have here, to be honest.

You're literally arguing that he had a better performance against Southampton because he started out left. That playing him on the right doesn't work, and he should always play on the left, after he's played a match where he kept interchanging positions and his two biggest impacts, the goal and the cross that resulted in the own goal, came after he had swapped positions with Greenwood and he'd moved out towards the right.

 As usual clueless post.
Yeah the fact you can’t see your own double standard is quite frankly hilarious so I’ll agree with you you’re usual clueless post.

I just don’t get how you can pretend you‘re so much better than everyone else whilst sitting in the Rashford thread defending him for all it’s worth even when people are making perfectly good critiques. Which you blow up in to massive things. Then takes side swipes at other players and still think you’re not doing exactly what you’ve just commented on.

I thought Rashford was great last night, one issue I had with every forward last night was at times all of them including VDB and Bruno just sat in a straight line with no room behind them so there was nowhere to play the ball. None of the, wanted to drop out of that forward line. Other than that Rashford played really well last night.

Go ahead and tell me which players I didn't praise (or had agenda against), it won't take much time to prove you are talking out of your arse (not that it needs to be proven again)

Edit: You mean defend him when someone like you and others make shit posts about him? If that's the case yeah I do that, for Rashford and every other player too.

Well to be pedantic, because that's what you're doing, he didn't drift to the right on the goal. Cavani was on the right for the goal. Rashford was central.

And playing him on the right generally doesn't work. Playing him on the left does. It's not just the Southampton game where this is true, but his whole career. He interchanges positions when he plays on the right, too, but it doesn't do anything to improve him out there. It doesn't suit his strengths. Our forward players generally swap positions during the match. But if you think that where a player predominately plays during the WHOLE match and where he starts has no bearing on how he performs and the positions he takes up, then I don't know what to say to you, to be honest.

You seem to be implying that it doesn't matter where players start, just throw them on the pitch. Their positions don't matter? And one more time just to get this through, this isn't just the Southhampton game I'm basing it on. I happen to be commentating on the Southampton game because, well, it's the most recent one!

Would never have thought that saying that Rashfords best position is on the left (or maybe centrally) would be so controversial to you.

Absolutely not true.

What game were you watching. He drifts centrally on the overlap - under orders from Ole... but that's the norm when hehe is playing wide left. He was our wide left player every minute of the first 45-minutes he was on the pitch. He never once swapped with Greenwood, despite delivering his assist for the OG from the right, but that's only because he pulled out there from a central position.

Well he won't even with stats like this

It’s like you said in the thread for Son — some players just have bizarrely lower standards than our actually top level players. Strange stuff from our fans.

Yeah, somehow these elite players don't miss chances or give away possession. Their dry spell barely gets a mention and when they hit form all of a sudden they gets high praise. But when our players do that, they are inconsistent and can't be relied on.

Weird rant.

There's nothing pedantic about my post.

I'll quote myself.
the goal and the cross that resulted in the own goal, came after he had swapped positions with Greenwood and he'd moved out towards the right.

I didn't claim he drifted right on the goal, I'm just pointing out that it happened after he had swapped positions with Greenwood, which is true. For the goal, both Rashford and Cavani are central and close to each other inside the box, he sure as shit wouldn't have been there if he'd been out wide left.

The point here, which you seem to be ignoring, is that you take the match against Southampton, where he kept interchanging positions, and use it as an example as to why Rashford should always play left. My claim isn't that the position doesn't matter, or that Rashford shouldn't play on the left side, but that using the Southampton match as proof is weak as feck as the match is an example of the opposite and how well he can function in multiple positions. Just as the match against Sheffield shows he can be absolutely atrocious down the left.

You said he moved out towards the right for the goal. He didn't.

I said you were being pedantic because you were taking the fact that I was saying that Rashford is clearly better on the left way too literal. As if the fact that he scored while being central negates my point about him being best on the left. Which is doesn't, and I have no idea why you can't comprehend that. You talk as if you watch the highlights of games, see's he scored while being central and then think "see, the fact that he started on the left got nothing to with his good performance" It's like you ignore everything else and just look at the highlights.

I was trying to get through to you what I (and others) are saying about him playing on the left. He played the vast majority of the game out there and was great. Just like he has been when he's had all his best games for United. Or playing centrally.

As for the bold part, how many times have I said that it isn't solely down to this game? Are you really that dense? Seriously. I'm judging it on, you know, his career as a whole where he clearly excels playing on the left and drifts in from there. And I also said that in another post that it doesn't mean that when he plays on the left he suddenly turn into Messi. I said he still has bad games because every bloody player has bad games. I never said he doesn't have bad games out there so very weird response from you.

Although I say weird, it seems a pretty standard response from you to be honest.

i have seen this. maybe due to lack of watching other teams but oppo players get away with murder. Its normal though I guess, if you only watch your team, you will see more of their errors but every season, Son somehow emerges as one of Europe's premier wide forwards for about 3 months but then no one mentions him for POTS etc. Always recency bias and hyperbole. Sado Mane has pass completion of 77%, Harry Kane 68%, Rashford is 81%, Vardy's is 62.5%, but Rashford is the loose one who gives the ball away

Do we also have chance creation stats? It’d be interesting to see how they are compared

He's a great player and a fantastic human being and he's having a good season. If people are critical (on my part at least) it's out of love because he could be the best player in the world and we want him to make it. Ironically it's finding that absolutely ruthless streak he needs of scoring goals in the tight 0-0's against the big boys that will elevate him but he's just outscored Cantona and he's 23 years old so surely he will become a club legend.
was never his destiny.

"He is a championship player who has no football IQ or natural talent, just relies on attitude and pace. I say this out of love"

Pretty much!

Marcus "Rashford" is a very loving moniker

Marcus Rashford could score 4 in a game and people would still pick faults with him. Incredible. Only Bruno has scored more goals than he has (just 1 more) and Bruno had taken most of the pens.

Honestly don't think our 'fans' know the meaning of the word support.

Anybody that uses that moniker is not / should not be a Manchester United fan.

Yeah, unfortunately, there's been a few posts in this thread that have either used that or variations of it. Obviously the guy isn't beyond criticism. Important to say that not everything that is said about him in a critical way should be dismissed. He can be a very frustrating player at times who makes poor decisions, of course. There's no doubt about that. But he can be equally brilliant.

But yeah, there are ways of going about criticizing him.

Perhaps you should try google translate, because i sure as shit wrote that the goal happened after he had swapped positions with Greenwood and Rashford moved out towards the right. Somehow you've managed to confuse that with moving towards the right for the goal itself, weird. Not entirely sure why any of this is supposed to be complicated.

Rashford and Greenwood swapped positions after 22 mins or so, with Rashford taking up position down the right wing side until around the 36th min, after the cross that resulted in the goal. That's one extremely long overlap, that.

Incredible.

Over 260 games overall. Around 90 goals, and over 50 assists...and he's still only 23.

I think a lot of people forget that he’s still so young, given that he’s been around for so many years already. To be doing what he’s doing at 23 both on and off the pitch is amazing, and still yet to reach his peak for another 3-4 years too, can’t wait to watch him develop further!

I'm not confusing anything! You also seem to be playing a game of semantics at this point. Which is, as you like to say, "weird".

As for the bold, absolute irony at its best.

Also, this isn't really what you started blabbering about initially. You were implying that because he scored a goal in the centre position and crossed one ball from the right, it negates my point about his best position being on the left. You know, where he played for the vast majority of this game (or half in this case).

For some unknown reason to man, you can't comprehend it. I honestly don't know why.

Absolutely. And you can bet your life on it that the same people who are hypercritical of him wouldn't stop harping on about him if he played for another club.
