So, just thought I'd check-in to see how this thread is going.

World-class talent Marcus Rashford can't get on the pitch for England ahead of Sterling, Grealish, Foden, Sancho or Saka. As usual, we're going with "it's because he's carrying an injury".

I would have thought the medical teams at United and England would know more about the severity of his injury than random people on the Internet but hey, what do I know?

Clearly England decided to waste a squad position on an injured player because he's a good laugh around the swimming pool and Utd are OK with that because we only pay him £300K a week so what's the harm if he makes this injury worse and misses the start of the season?

Also, there's no precedent for other Utd players who would have made this squad missing it so they can recover from injuries, as long as you ignore Greenwood and Henderson.

Could it be, possibly, maybe, potentially, at all even remotely possible that he just isn't as good as Sterling, Saka, Grealish, Sancho or Foden?

Cue bombardment of stats from people saying "Rashford's stats blah blah blah something"

Don't get too upset about it, its only my opinion. My prediction is he will start fewer games next season as we see clear evidence that Greenwood, Sancho and Pogba are better options in the wide-forward positions. Can still raise his game. Can still be a good squad player. Really needs to start knuckling down now. The time for excuses is over in my book.

No way in this galaxy is Pogba better than Rashford on the Left Wing. I am hoping Pogba signs a new contract (not for stupid money). But he is not a left winger.

What even are his injuries? All I’ve read is that he has problems with shoulder and ankle and might need surgery, which seems quite vague given that reports of injuries - especially those that parties involved are openly talking about surgery for - tend to be quite specific.

Everything seems to be quite vague with this.

That tweet has to be fake. I promise you Rashford is not relevant enough to illicit all the hate. It should have been obvious when we saw Pogba below him.
Take it you’re not UK based? Hard to think of a player in the last few months who’s been in the headlines more than Rashford.

Personally don’t think it’s unreasonable to expect him to be up there on a list like that considering I’ve seen some of the pelters he gets on here and Twitter.

Well that list wasn't Uk based only for one but covered sports all over the world. Its pretty obvious after that fact.

Is this supposed to be sarcastic? Because jumping into a pool is a lot different from running around a football pitch at the elite level of the sport for over 90 minutes...

He's literally jumping into a body of water...how much strain do you think that puts on your body? There's a reason they all muck about in the pool as part of their recovery.

Isn't rashford meant to have an ongoing back/shoulder problem for months which requires surgery. That was always used as an excuse for his awful performances last season anyway.

Fact is You simply can't jump in any pool if you have that type of injury without aggravating it further.

Obviously not but inside the Uk he was talked about a lot. Add to that he’s a mainstay in are team i personally don’t think it’s beyond the realm of possibility that he received a tonne of hate after every subpar performance.

By we you don't include yourself in that do you as given your limited number of posts it doesn't take a lot of time to see a number of thinly veiled digs at Rashford from yourself (seems to be mostly when you're defending Martial)
Rashford has to get criticized aswell it’s not just Martial. There is times when Rashford is very selfish and breaks down our plays constantly until he scores a goal and everything else about that game is forgotten, like teammates missing out on chances because he wants to do it all.

I belive that Rashford is not the best teammate to have playing a team game. Since everything is about Marcus Rashford being our Ronaldo 2.0.

I'm sure the initial post was sarcastic.

Regarding the injury discussions: If he is a Euro 2020 in 24 hours and was able to contribute to it in the final, it was more than worth it for him imo. e.g. a Goal tomorrow could make him an absolute legend. I really hope he gets his chance.

He and United then should evaluate the best solution to his problems asap. If it means he needs surgery and misses the start of the season, so be it. But they really have to make sure we see the Rashford Pre-Back injury next season, not the 20/21 version.

bravo. Entirely in agreement with and share your opinion.

Or, you know, Southgate is picking his team on form. And Rashford suffered a dip in form coming into this tournament. The idea that every player in the starting XI this tournament is definitively “better” than Rashford is, obviously, stupid. Or to put it another way, who would be a better addition to our squad right now. Grealish or Sterling?

He’s having an operation straight after the Euros, he was given a choice by OGS who didn’t want to stand in the way of him playing for England. He decided to play through it at the Euros and have surgery straight afterwards cutting short his already shortened holiday/rest period.

Is he actually ok?

I've been watching all the England camp videos and of all the players (hours of footage over the Euros), Rashford barely seems to feature although that could be his personal choice.

Also, didn't see much of Marcus after the final whistle last game.

11 goals and 9 assists in the league. 6 goals in UCL. No penalty. It's not a bad number at all for someone at his age. Take a look at example Lautaro Martinez scored 17 goals and 6 assists in Serie A (2 penalties) and 1 goal and 1 assist in UCL. Both played about the same amount of games/minutes in those comps.

However, let's be honest. Sterling is still better than him and that's why Sterling nails the England XI but not Rashford. The fact Rashford produced more total goals and assists than Sterling last season shows Ole had done well to get the best out of Rashford and I expect Rashford can only get better with Sancho's arrival.

Just seen a tweet from united that shows rashford jumping in a pool.

How can he be jumping in pools if he’s carrying a serious injured like we’re led to believe?
This is bordering on criminal. England forcing someone to jump in a swimming pool. We need to send the RSPCF round there to investigate.

His feet are likely to drop off if this happens again.

I’ve thought that as well. He looks generally sullen and unhappy in the camp, and never seems to be part of the fun the other lads are having.

Though, tbf, the same applies to Kane apart from looking unhappy. Likely just a more introverted personality type.

Ah that's alright then. Wonderful stuff making up the numbers delaying surgery for the club that pay his wages.
Who gives a feck about club football.

he’s part of the squad, he would have played more if there were injuries to Kane and Sterling (thankfully there weren’t).

He’s not making up the numbers.

pleased for him.

Utterly bizarre thing to say on a club forum with the season fast approaching.

He's played 90 minutes in 6 games. 25 of those when the game was already won V Ukraine.

A complete waste of time.

A wasted summer. He could have used this as time off recuperating from surgery.

He won’t be missed if he’s missing for the start of the season

Sancho————Bruno———Pogba

Greenwood/ Cavani

He’s not starting ahead of those anyway.

I’ve said I don’t blame him for going to Euros if injured. Why would you not? Home (essentially) competition. This group of players will likely never get that again

My issue is this injury supposedly so bad that it terribly affected his form but wasn’t bad enough for him to miss any game time and whether or not he even needs surgery is debatable.

In the old days wouldn’t we call that a knock? Even when players have significant injuries that they can play through it’s extremely unusual for the injury not to be managed by reducing game time and maybe having players sitting out midweek games, making sure the player only plays 90 mins where essential and all the rest of it.

None of that happened with Rashford. United doctors think he was fine to play every match. England doctors presumably thought he was fine to play in the Euros

I just think maybe a niggle that players would be expected to play though has been blown up into this major thing as a defensive mechanism in response to criticism of his form over second half of the season.

so what. There are players who haven’t played a single minute.

You need a squad, you can’t just take 16 players to a tournament.

He’s a human being too and no club should deprive any player from any nation of a life experience like this.

I can't believe Rashford didn't give up Euros (and reaching finals) experience for 4-5 extra games for ManUtd.

Rashford is a much better player than Pogba as a left forward.

I feel Ole played him on the right last season to Accommodate Pogba and provide the best possible team.

Let’s see what happens this time around because if it’s Greenwood who will consistently play upfront then the our most played frontline will be the below.

Sancho———Bruno——-Rashford
——————Greenwood——————

Lingard, Pogba, Martial out

Phillips, Grealish In

Would strengthen us a lot more too.

It’s for others. Those that are actually complaining that Rashford is at the Euros. We are on the same page.

Yeah, can't believe few can't understand why player want to be part of the national team during these big tournaments. It must be one great dressing room to be part of like Coady said.

Indeed.

as much as this is a great set of lads, it may well never happen for them again, certainty not at Wembley - to want to take that away from one of our own players, is a twisted way of thinking.

Coady‘s quotes and attitude says it all.

Yeah, this is first finals for England in Euros (if i'm not wrong) and first finals in major cups since 1966. You need lot of luck also to win these cups, one small mistake or one tough draw, one moment of magic from opponent then you are out. Ofcourse, tactical preparation, squad quality matters most.

These players might not get another chance, so for Rashford it's a good decision.

Also it's hilarious that few of the people who don't rate Rashford highly (or don't rate him as anything but decent player) are most upset with this decision. I mean if he is just a decent player then it shouldn't be a problem as we have better quality players like Cavani, Martial, Greenwood to start the season, after that much better player(not even same postal code apparently) Sancho will join the squad.

If it goes to pens then Rashford will 100% be taking one. He could still have the biggest moment in the tournament through that or coming on and scoring the winner.

So you’ve more medical knowledge than England’s medical team? Good on ya.

Nah we should rather sell Pogba than continue to accommodate him into the side.
He will never be a wide player imo and he certainly should not keep Rashford out of the side to play him on the left.
He should start to perform as a CM or should leave.

But I agree, we should be ok with Rashford missing the first games of the season with Sancho coming in and Greendwood, Cavani, Bruno and James also available.

Nah I just know you can't jump in a pool if you've got a back/shoulder problem that requires surgery.

You don't need any sort of medical training for that just common sense.
