Maurizio Sarri's Sack Watch | And Now Our Watch Has Ended

Maybe he should try playing one of the best defensive players in the world in his best position then, that might give them more of a backbone.
That's not the problem. Sarris system requires a regista. Kante is not a regista. It worked in Italy because the players around Jorginho knew their roles and it all fitted together. Kante is not suited to his attacking role but simply swapping him back isnt going to make sarriball work.

Kante never played a single pivote for Chelsea, Leicester or France. Playing Kante there would make no difference and Jorghino is not a #8.

Again, Busquets looked worse when the space between the lines was bigger. The whole point of defending from he front is to be compact and minimise gaps. Chelsea don't even press properly. Jorginho was fine I'm Napoli.

Who said play Kante as a single pivot? Play both him and Kovacic there. AC Milan did it with Pirlo and Gattuso.

Zola is a shocking manager.

Hoping Chelsea do the right thing and give him the job until the end of the season.
I'm sure there were similar quotes about Solskjaer on Chelsea forums a month ago. I'd much rather they keep Sarri thanks.

Wouldn't work. Kante hasn't been playing DM his entire career either. At Leicester and even under Conte he wasn't just sitting as a DM. This myth is used as a stick to beat Sarri with. Sarri needs Jorginho in that deep role, not Kante. Kante is mobile and can go and win the ball away from that position better. People need to stop acting like Kante not being at 'DM' is so catastrophic for this Chelsea side.

Who is it that expressed his hatred for the term "sarriball"? He was right.

Is he going to survive this ? I thought he's a goner by the end of the season but now surviving this will be a near miracle on its own.

Will never manage a top club again after this. Out of his depth.

Again, it's not "swapping him". It's playing him as a ball winner in the middle of the park, not pushing up trying to close people down. To press you need players to force mistakes and then players to win the ball from the lose passes. Right now he's got his ball winner pressing up the pitch and his playmaker swamped by aggressively pressing attacking midfielders. Kante's best work at Chelsea and Leicester has all been winning the ball in his own half alongside a sitting playmaker.

What is Sarriball? It just seems to be a fancy word for possession football. For me Napoli played a quick possession football but that about it.

City doing us a big favour today ripping chelsea to shreds in first 30 mins. There defence look crap. Hope we can do the same in the cup.
Had a quick look in the Chelsea forum match thread and a few calling for Morhinio back haha.
Alonso getting serious stick

Not really doing us a favour by giving them a severe beating because Sarri will be gone now and they will hire somebody competent.

Sarri's teams use positional play. A double pivoted with a '10' is worse in both defensive and attacking phases.

Check Zola's record.

Ole had a failure at Cardiff and a lot of success at Molde.

As if that means anything. What about Di Matteo? New manager bounce is a thing, you'd be foolish to write off Zola getting a reaction from these players.

Worse than getting beat 6-0 by City or getting beat 4-0 by Bournemouth? We're not talking about changing a system that's working, we're talking about things he could do to stop Chelsea being massively shit under the slightest pressure.

Zola is a terrible manager, who has been terrible everywhere he's managed.

I'd hope they keep Sarri because he looks done, but Zola wouldn't be having any Ole like effect

I like him but not shaking Pep's hand was a very petty Mourinho like move.
Think it was more self absorbed in what I imagine is a truck of rage and frustration than pettiness towards pep

It's bad enough that he needs time to implement Sarri ball but why make it harder by openly questioning your players? Even José with his résumé can't do that anymore.

Has he really been that bad?

City can do that to any side, Chelsea were just on the end one of their amazing days.

He's qualified for the final of the League cup, he's still in every other cup and they are challenging for top four. I don't see them being any better than that at the moment.

One thing I'm confused by is the use of Kante, he's taken one of Chelsea's top two players and insulted him by playing an inferior player in his position.

That will come when the teams shape is better and their compactnes's improves. Pep Guardiola's team lost 4 nil away at Leicester.

They should keep working on perfecting his first plan rather than doing something that would make his whole system different.

If Roberto Di Matteo can get Chelsea to win the Champions League Zola can get them winning enough games to go 4th. What a manager does with lower league and relegation scrappers doesn't having any bearing on their ability to be a decent caretaker manager at a top club. This isn't a team that doesn't know how to play football, they are just being told to play a type of football they're entirely unsuited to. Nobody is saying Zola will win 8 titles in 10 years with them, but there's no way I'd be happy if they sacked Sarri and brought him in.
