Goes in effect today I believe.I thought the rules around amortization were changed so that they could only count it for a max of 5 years even if the contract was longer?

To maximize their spending and still stay within ffp rules. The longer the contract, the lower the yearly cost on the books because the transfer fee can be spread out over more years.Does anyone know what kind of contract it takes to get young players to sign such long contracts?
Are Chelsea committing to paying large wages (or wages that go up every year)? If not, why sign such long contracts..
Two words for ya mate: Saudi Arabia.Well if we take Mudryk for example.
He signed an 8 year contract and is absolutely shite. Won't get them wages anywhere else, so he's set for life
So he can rinse the club for 8 years, and if they ever try to force him out of the club, they'd have to catch him first as thats his only attribute.
Or maybe you or Arsenal will assume it's our fault more than this and snap him upTwo words for ya mate: Saudi Arabia.
Chelsea have been handed a massive reprieve on their 8 year contract stupidity by having a whole nation offering even more lucrative terms for their potential cast offs. If Mudders continues to be nothing more than a 100m sprinter wearing studs, then the Saudi's will happily swoop in and take the problem off Chelsea's hands.
It's a shame really. Toddy deserved to be punished for coming into English footy and thinking he's a genius, but through sheer dumb corrupt sportswashing luck, he's going to get away with his idiocy.
Pochettino wanted to see him and nkunku in same 11. . Albeit preseason things look improved 1000 times better than last preseason. His link up play is so much better than advertised. I agree, we might not need a striker. Jackson is him. I’ve been so, so impressed with him so far.
The usual preseason caveats apply, of course.
With all those players + the Jackson and Nkunku partnership surely a CL place is the minimum Chelsea will be expecting or hoping for?Pochettino wanted to see him and nkunku in same 11. . Albeit preseason things look improved 1000 times better than last preseason.
Stand out players for me gusto, casedai, angelo,Jackson. If we add caicedo and kudus and possibly one goal keeper we will be set for season opener.
I want to see tuchel s best season total be achieved. If that's not enough to win cl place back then so be it. If we created the core group that perform week in week out then I will be happy. With all those players + the Jackson and Nkunku partnership surely a CL place is the minimum Chelsea will be expecting or hoping for?
I'm not sure if you're just trolling now, but Jackson an elite striker under Poch. Mudryk similar to Mbappe in Poch. This kid looks good, might become an elite striker under Pochettino. Don't believe chelsea will need another striker. A goal and 2 assist today

He has made 3 threads in 2023, and all 3 are Chelsea player threads made following Pochettino’s appointment. I appreciate his commitment to the bitI'm not sure if you're just trolling now, but Jackson an elite striker under Poch. Mudryk similar to Mbappe in Poch.
I know there was always this love in with Poch and yourself, but this is going to far
New manager and a ton of new players (again) mean it'll be tough. If we get top 4 it will be incredible unless Arsenal, Man United or Liverpool totally shit the bed. With all those players + the Jackson and Nkunku partnership surely a CL place is the minimum Chelsea will be expecting or hoping for?
We don’t have a recognised striker yet who can actually score goals, Martial is good for 5 games a season at the moment.New manager and a ton of new players (again) mean it'll be tough. If we get top 4 it will be incredible unless Arsenal, Man United or Liverpool totally shit the bed.
If top 5 = Champions League is confirmed then obviously a lot more likely.
I wouldn’t say so, personally. We’re coming off the back of a 12th place finish, and other clubs have strengthened, whilst we’ve sold off half of our squad. I expect it’ll take some time for Poch to get his ideas across, and integrate the new signings. I’m not going to place too much stock in the pre-season performances, we’ve not exactly played quality opposition thus far. With all those players + the Jackson and Nkunku partnership surely a CL place is the minimum Chelsea will be expecting or hoping for?
Another year out in the wild will be very bad for you, I can see many of those new signings on long contracts getting restless, Enzo in particular.I’d be happy with top 6-8 to be honest, provided we see a massive improvement in our attacking play. We averaged a goal per game last season. We looked absolutely rotten going forward.
I suppose that’s the benefit of having them tied up to those contracts - it’ll take a hefty fee if they want to force move away.Another year out in the wild will be very bad for you, I can see many of those new signings on long contracts getting restless, Enzo in particular.
And with Colwill the next Ferdinand…surely anything other than winning the league would be acceptable!I'm not sure if you're just trolling now, but Jackson an elite striker under Poch. Mudryk similar to Mbappe in Poch.

There quite obviously is. One player doesn't change that. And footballing experts on here will tell you, there's a lack of striker talent on the market. Yes for our scouts, managers and DOF there always seems to be a dearth of talent. Chelsea got a top talent it seems.
Yeah, out of all the feel good stories of preseason so far, he's by far my favourite one. That latter vid gives me Diego Costa vibes. Bullying defenders at the corner flag and just pushing his way into the box like a freight train.
You're really going to put this out there after a couple/handful of preseason friendly games? And footballing experts on here will tell you, there's a lack of striker talent on the market. No it's not obvious, and Broja was a top striker talent who got injured. Yes there are striker talents out there, we just seem to always be second best in securing them or we fail to develop them properly when we get them actually. There quite obviously is. One player doesn't change that.
Besides, that was one friendly match. Let's see how he does in Premier League. I've seen Armando Broja with far more convincing performances than this.
If any time in football history there was a bigger pool of young talented footballers than at this moment, please point out. With the general level of scouting, and investing in youth football I doubt there was a better time than right now. However midtable or top 6-8 clubs have gotten much richer than in previous times so they don't sell for cheap, and the stakes have upped. That does not change the fact that clubs continue to find good deals, Jackson seems to be one of those. You're really going to put this out there after a couple/handful of preseason friendly games?
Could well have signed a gem, but it doesn't change the fact that there really is a lack of quality CF options available - let alone at a decent price.
There are talents in nearly every single club. Very few of them reach the top level, which is why we should try to get the ones that realistically can reach that level. Nicolas Jackson wasn't a hidden gem by any means, and only time will tell if he'll be good enough or just another one who doesn't cut it. I have to admit I wanted him myself along with Højlund. No it's not obvious, and Broja was a top striker talent who got injured. Yes there are striker talents out there, we just seem to always be second best in securing them or we fail to develop them properly when we get them actually.

In your first post, you never mentioned "young striker talent" - just striker talent, which is what i was referring to. There is a lack of quality CF options on the market. And further to your point, we are actually heavily linked with one - Hojlund (among others: Ramos, Kolo Muani, Kane, Osimhen). Hojlund could turn out to be a great deal for us, or he could turn out not to be....no one knows. So what is it that you're complaining about? No it's not obvious, and Broja was a top striker talent who got injured. Yes there are striker talents out there, we just seem to always be second best in securing them or we fail to develop them properly when we get them actually.
