Someone pointed this out on twitter - the first goal was scored in the 53rd minute. Then, why was there a gap of 40 minutes to score the equalizer? Any other top team would have had Burnley on the ropes, gotten the equalizer in another 20 minutes, and won the game with a last gasp goal. We have seen the likes of Chelsea, etc do that so many times.

Scoring a last gasp equalizer is not "fighting hard". It shows a lack of bottle. Scoring the winner at the last minute is what is required.

We need to get rid of some players and add some new ones. Its sad to say, but we have a final third problem, as well as problems in defence.
Totally agree but the issue is that Mourinho is supposed to make one mean defensive unit (which he hasn't) and is not that much of an attacking football guru. I wonder which attacking player we can sign that will solve our issues in attack since we absolutely fail in attacking as a team?

Lukaku might not have got much service, but his inability to create ANY sort of chances for himself in a game like today is just painful to watch.
He's been too static. He needs to move defenders around.

I had Lingard, Martial and Lindelof in my lineup. I bet we'd have done better. Ibra and Lukaku played Like caca. They should never, ever start together again.

Pogba, Mata and Lingard were only players who looked like they want to win. Others were just playing like they were forced to play. Here are some points I noticed from the match. Correct me if I am wrong.

Mata made some runs which went unnoticed by Burnley defenders but our players chose to ignore it.

Matic should not try to look for final pass. Every time he tried to play through ball, it was blocked.

Shaw did well. I think he managed more shots than Lukaku.

Rashford should be dropped for few matches. His crosses were very poor.

Rojo should not be allowed to be a part of this team.

Ibra should not start matches. He should be used as impact substitute.

And we need two players. A playmaker who can make that final pass which we have lacked recently and a winger who can make the runs, with ball, behind opposition players.
All those comments and not a word about Burnley and how they played. Did you notice there was two teams on the pitch or do you just take notes on United players?

Jose Mourinho post-match quotes

Jose Mourinho when asked if Manchester United dropped points against Burnely: "Yeah. We should have won."

Mourinho: "I take the satisfaction the way the team played, showed the reaction after going 2-0 down."

Mourinho: "We had a lot of chances we don't score. That's a bad feeling. The boys had fought hard. Nothing at all negative to say about my players. The way they accept with all the risks I took is great."

Mourinho on Burnley: "They go there and I don't know how they score a goal from a lateral free kick. Similar goal we conceded in other matches. They defend for 90 minutes and the second shot they score."

Mourinho: "I have to say the two goals in a miserable number."

Apart from the 51 crosses (yes, 51), I thought we were good going forward, good at keeping the tempo and good at controlling the game.

We lost by a lucky drop ball 3 yards from goal and a worldie of a FK you can't do anything about Yes the result is fecking hard to swallow but their 2 goals were lucky. It's shit like that you can't control in a game.
But the performance wasn’t good at all. There is no style or coherence to our play. We were poor the first half but better in the second. Better because Burnley were parking the bus to protect the 2-0 lead. There is no way we should not be beating Burnley at OT. There is no excuse.

Phil Bardsley had a good game, another ex player comes back to haunt us. Really got under Mikhataryans skin in second half too.

Lukaku should not be defending set pieces. That's 3 goals now and 2 games he's cost because he can't clear a ball.

Lingard continues to be a big game player. 3 best chances in the 2nd half, 2 goals.

Still think we lack intelligence going forward. What's the point of passing it to Lukaku who tees it up for no one? I think he must have chested the ball into thin air at least thrice in the 2nd half because no one picked up on it.

As for the performance, we should always be playing like that like we're losing. This intensity to score has been lacking in many games and there was only one football team out there today. Burnley scored from 2 set pieces and did nothing else but defend and waste time. They're going to get a fine for their behavior and they're going to be happy about it. United did do a lot and we're only the 4th team that manage to put 2 past Burnley in the same game. We just blew it early and at that point it was too hard to make up for.

We really do need to replace a lot of players if we want to be challenging for titles again.

So devoid of imagination in final 3rd. Our tactics seem to be we will score from a cross or a piece of individual brilliance.

Rojo and Zlatan should be nowhere near starting for the 1st team right now. Rashford is in horrible nick as well, he should drop to bench for a while. Shaw was solid enough again, and with Young doing well at RB I would be happy if they stayed as our FBs while Valencia is not fit. We need to sign something to invigorate our attack this window though, they are all so out of form.

That makes no sense at all.

We are an absolute shambles in many aspects. The tight strong defensive unit that we relied on last season is now shipping goals. Rojo and Ibra look way below the required standards. We seem to just pump it into the box with no clear game plan. Awful to watch and no where near good enough.
I said it in a previous thread (can't remember what it was now) that I believe Jose is caught in two minds - he's a defensive coach, but is acutely aware that we expect good attacking football. Therefore, when he tries to come out of his comfort zone, everything seems to break down. The solution is to hire extra bodies to his back room team to concentrate on this aspect. Nothing wrong with that as SAF would recruit where he felt he wasn't strong enough. It's a no brainer.

If I were one of those in charge at United, I would have a very diplomatic talk with him. There's a way to get him to agree without bruising his ego.

2 wins in a row so can't complain. Would have drawn these 2 last season.

Rashford needs dropping badly. Not just for a game but for a good few weeks. Yet another abysmal performance.

To be fair to Lukaku, the service he has been receiving... Actually wait, he hasn't been receiving any.

Set piece defending needs to be better. Crossing needs to be better. We need a dedicated set piece specialist. We really need someone in the mould of (insert name of world beating playmaker here) to help open games up especially against teams that park the bus.

Pretty shocking stuff that our academy players seem to care more about wanting to get the ball back and making the clever runs behind defenders than the rest of the "talent" we've bought.

300 million quid, and this?
The Lukaku problem seems two fold, he rarely gets the service, but he fluffs his chances on many of the occasions he finally does get the ball. If he wants to be a top striker he has to be putting those half chances and moments away. How many tines has he mistimed a kick/header, or booted the ball straight at the keeper this season?

Im willing to give him a bit of leniency this season because the lack of service is so obviously problematic as we don’t play with wingers, but he does need to improve his movement and finishing around the box, because it’s generally very average.

I rate Lingard sometimes.

The rest wasn't good enough and Mourinho has to take the blame for this.

Jesse is our best player. He has the right mentality. For the rest of the bunch, its not much hope now at the moment. This is a team with no leaders.
And this sums it up. One of the biggest football clubs, sporting organisations on the planet and look at us. We are totally out of any sense of rhythm. Lindgaard saves us (and after his performance against Leicester, he owed us that so big respect to him).

But only a fool would continue to deny the problems at OT. We are second. For now. But we seem a troubled team. It is very, very clear. Of course, people with statistics will say 'calm down' bla bla bla.

Just tell me what you have seen at OT since September. Watford, and 30 mins against Arsenal.

We are a fragile football team, and our performances reflect a fragile, frustrated, uninspired and belligerent manager.

We didn't deserve to win the game. I always say when you are behind you've got to score early in the second half and we did. We had plenty of time to win the game but it was just a barrage of crosses that we never did anything with. Burnley surrendered territory yet everything we did I felt was rushed. There was no need to panic but I felt that we were too eager to get the game going that it actually wasted more time. Serious questions must be asked from Mourinho with regards to team selection. It was all wrong from the beginning. The only consolation I can take is those time wasting feckers from Burnley didn't win.

Meulensteen isnt available though. He is in India
Well there's got to be someone else out there... sure we could get someone if only Jose would make that decision. He badly needs a fresh pair of eyes imho.

Select from the list of excuses below:

1- If it was any other season we'd be #1
2- Not much Mou can do with these players
3- Shit referee

We always have some excuse on here.
I have seen plenty laying the blame at Mourinho's feet (myself included) so stop making shite up.

Poor from United, expected more. The lineup suggested we are going to struggle in defence - why not play Lindelof alongside Jones.
Some decisions which against us but all in all we were poor. No excuses.

We seriously lack top quality players in attack. I wonder where would we be had we actually got Perisic in the summer.

Does Lukaku know what a nearpost run is? Constantly stands behind a wall of defenders every game and then moans when nobody passes the ball to him
That’s just his way of hiding. Really disappointed with him today. Didn’t say anything or slag him over the past 10 games but today really showed he needs to build up more mental toughness. He hid the last 20 minutes. Plain and simple.
