Post-match discussion

Sun, 05 February 2017

Just please stop overblowing anything good United or Mourinho does. Todays result was decent nothing more.

We are still 6th and todays performance doesnt give me any confidence that will change soon.

If anything iam furious about the situation with Martial and him refusing to give Pogba and Zlatan any rest.

You seem like a person with serious anger issues red?

Just edited my post with the schmichel save your on about that slipped my mind. Clerical error on Mata, I meant matas chance not finish.

Its that feeling of ruthlessness. Sort of hit the nail on the head with my frustrations. Even when were 3-0 up theres a feeling we should and could have been more ruthless. And thats a feeling thats been plauging us all year.

Yeah. Considering a lack of ruthlessness in front of goal has been plaguing us all season it did feel a little like more of the same. On the flip-side, we shouldn't really be too down on a team that scored three, created a bunch more and shut out the opposition completely. Away from home. Not as though all our rivals had it easy against teams in and around Leicester in the table.

Smalling should'nt be in the team and it just shows how crap he is if he needs another player to make him look good.
Smalling has been "good" long before Bailly got here you muppet. Played another great game today alongside Bailly; won everything in the air, as usual & played a part in the build up to several chances including goals scored. And passed the ball about effortlessly today with some confidence. I thought it was poignant that Jose chose to take Rojo off & replace him with Blind rather than take off "captain" Smalling & sliding Rojo alongside Bailly.
There' only a couple of teams in the premiership that Smalling wouldn't walk into & improve them.

First 30 minutes were shite, really frustrating to watch but once Maureen changed it and brought Mkhitaryan inside it totally changed the game. Ross was my MOTM, he was the nuts but Bailley was brilliant and Pogba not far behind.
This time Mourinho changed it earlier, around 20'.
Mkhitaryan as #10 in the next games is the way forward.

Much better without Darmian, who offers nothing at either end.
Young should be given a run at left back.
Rashford needs dropping too.
Shaw should have the chance first.

Average performance against a very poor team, would have taken a 1-0 before game so reasonably happy. Should have carried on to increase GD but 3 points and 3 goals is still great, shouldn't be too greedy.
Finally, a great opportunity to leapfrog Liverpool and get out of 6th position next week only for them to beat Tottenham

What is cringeworthy about wanting to see your best and most talented player playing ?

First, he isn't our best player this season. Ibra is. He may not be our most talented player. Ibra, Pogba have shown their talent much more consitently than him.

Second, Caf's assessment of the importance of Martial is alarmingly growing much beyond what he has actually shown on the pitch. Even if Martial was consistently being played, he wouldn't change a lot. He has been rather flat even if improving a bit recently. That would certainly cool down the hysteria at the Caf.

Third, and this is the point I was making initially. Its okay to make a point or two about who should be playing or not. But obsessing over it and repeating "Omg, Mou is going to make Martial leave!! " ten times a day is actually cringeworthy for a club who is regarded as one of the biggest in the world. No player is bigger than the club for United. But if a player playing or not becomes more important than the team results, that proposition becomes dangerously close to being invalid.

Juan Mata has been involved in 86 Premier League goals since his debut (44 goals, 42 assists) - the highest goal involvement rate of any Premier League midfielder in that time.

Because football fans support a team, not individual players. It's also cringeworthy to think your opinion about "best and most talented" is better than anyone else's. There's a few players who could claim that accolade. Three of them played tonight (and scored). If you couldn't enoy that - because you were being busy getting all butt-hurt about your most favouritest ever player sitting the game out - then maybe team sports aren't for you? I hear tennis is very popular these days and your guy will play in every match, come what may.

Alot of people if not all were saying Martial was our best or atleast most talented player last year.

And ofcourse football is a team sport. That makes Mourinho's decision even worse because whenever Martial plays we are also playing better as a team atleast that is how I see it and I know I'am ot alone in that regard. So Mourinho freezing out Martial for whatever reasons is simply hurting the team.

And yes I'am content with the win today and cheers for the players that scored. I don't care who scores, I care about how well we play and if it gets us results or not. I also don't switch my opnion about a player and coach like a windmill, win is happy and euforic and lose is sad and angry. I don't work like that. I look at things from a wider perspective than just 1 game. And guess what I see that Mourinho is still 6th, is unable to grasp any opportunity to move up in that rank mainly because we are not scoring enough goals and knowing full well Martial is one of the better goal scorer's in the team so again his agenda with Martial is hurting us and costing us points. And that is not an opnion that is a fact if you look at minutes played and goals scored, Martial is one of the highest ranking players in the team, so why is he not playing ?

And if I take an even bigger look and look past this season than the way Mourinho is treating Martial will likley cause a rift with the player and we will probably be forced to sell him for a big loss and watch him develop into a star player elsewhere. This is not beneficial for our club at all.

If Mourinho would be winning games instead of drawing or losing them all the time I would have some for faith in his decisions or atleast the situation wouldn't bother me as much. But he isn't, well he won today but the performance was still poor and we just won because it is Leicester and everybody and his dog is winning against Leicester lately. Todays performance doesn't fill me with conficence that we will go on a streak and win our next games and it sure as hell doesn't fill me with conficence that we will go on and win our remaining games versus the teams above us either.

So no I'am not at all jolly and over the moon with the situation even tough we won today.

And I'am not even going to dignify that comment about team sports not being for me. Ridiculous beyond words to say something like that.

If anything it is Mourinho lovers like you that are adoring an individual and putting him above the importance of the team and the club.

That Mickey T Ryan chap is some player, happy with that performance today apart from the first 20 minutes. The change in formation worked well and Mickey as a 10 is where he should always play.

I'm glass half empty but your right. There's positives considering league position progress and we did put 3 past them plus our defence looked really really solid. And thats considering we set out without a defence minded midfielder instead of someone more adventurous and creative.

And just on that last point, perhaps Jose is leaning away from a team with Carrick in it. Subbed out twice at half time and dropped today. Interesting to see was it just matching leicester tactically or something he going to use more often.

I think Carrick should be used in big games, midfield of Ander and Pogba + Mata is more than enough is so called easier games.

2 goals in 13 league appearances and Martial is the solution to our goal-scoring woes. Classic. Nothing builds a players reputation better than not actually playing. Mourinho should bench him for another month or so. He'll be the best player in the world by the business end of the season.

That stat is meaningless. It's a run in the team that people want. He has no confidence from not playing and he is one of the best young players in Europe. He hasn't been any worse than Rashford and certainly not the likes of Young! Not playing him is odd.

What about Rashford? Does he not deserve a run in the team too? Seems like a toss up between the two of the and the manager fancies Marcus more, especially on the road. Which is his perogative.

Dont be so precious, most of us are adults here and expect to see form of one extreme to the next, if you cant handle it jog on, just dont go telling anyone, no one cares.

Plus you had to actually try to leave the newbies???

It may seem ott and complete madness right now but look at it in context. We were playing one of the weakest and bang out of form teams in the league. Why not try and demolish them when we had the oppportunity and make up for all those draws we had in some some way. Anyone happy with the last thirty minutes should reflect on why were not in the Champions League this year FFS.

My other major grumble was not throwing Martial and Shaw on in a game were there is no pressure that was completely in control. This is probably our best two players to make that left side as threatining going forward as the right.

Fact is we created feck all before mikis goal and not much after. Nothing meaningful anyway. We were laboured and pedestrian at times. Zlatan needs to stop dropping deep looking for the ball.

Dont let a three nil result against that lot fool you. Obviously im happy with the three points but anyone not seeing room for improvement is blind. Gaps closed so hopefully we push on from here and pick up some form.

Maybe watch the full game eh?
This reads like you were out of the room, or distracted with it on as background.

What part exactly are you referring to? Already addressed the chances one in previous posts if thats what you're on about

I agree the Martial stuff is an overreaction but it's weird he isn't even making sub appearances.

It matters to me that he was rewarded with a good performance with the elbow. You are the one who seems to have th problem with him starting.

I'm just saying his efforts at the business end this season don't justify all the crying over his absence. I'd quite like to see him back in our best XI. I hope he reclaims that status soon. Meanwhile, I'll be busy supporting the guys who do get picked.

But if a player playing or not becomes more important than the team results, that proposition becomes dangerously close to being invalid.

Who is saying Martial is bigger than the club ?

The point is Mourinho isn't a good coach:
  • Reason one because he isn't getting enough wins mainly because we are not scoring enough goals
  • Reason two because he isn't trying to fix that or atleast we aren't seeing him trying to change anything in that regard
  • Reason 3 because he is freezing out important players for no apparently valid reason which may hurt the club in the long run
In my opnion Martial has done more already for this club than Mourinho and he has proven better value for the money we spend on him and are still spending on him. Why should I not support him when I think Mourinho is freezing him out for personal reasons and hurting the team and our results by doing that ?

If you even dare question Mourinho on here you get slatted for it. He seems to be untoucable at this moment. If people are letting anyone be bigger than the club it is Mourinho. I don't get this weird freakish cult like adorement of the coach and supporting him in whatever he does. I like the coach when he is doing a good job and I feel he is taking the club forward with his decisions, with Mourinho I don't have that feeling. Why should I not question him when I think he is the biggest reason for us not being in the top 4 ?

Also the issue isn't just Martial. I think he is ruining Rashford by forcing him to play as a winger whenever he plays. The kid is a striker but he isn't getting a minutes as a striker because Zlatan literally plays every second of every match, it is dumb. He is also freezing out TFM who was looking last year as a big upcoming player for us. He could sure do something on the midfield for us but Mourinho never ever plays him. Shaw is similar, I don't know what the boy did wrong but Shaw was our big upcoming talent on the leftback, now everyone plays there except Shaw, people are even seriously discussing playing Young on leftback despite crucifying LVG for doing that and that was at the time when Shaw wasn't even an option.

Could you imagine the outrage if LVG or Moyes would decide to freeze out players like Martial and Shaw and put players like Young, Lingard and Darmian instead. There would be an outrage on the forum if they had done such things. But oh no it is Mourinho making the decisions now so we don't even dare question it. Why ? He is not SAF, he is not even a coach doing a good job, he is 6th, that is hardly any better than what LVG and Moyes were achieving. Now don't go twist my words and say I think LVG and Moyes are better and should come back, I didn't say that. But from where I am standing Mourinho isn't looking all that much better and if he is going to push out all our young exciting talents, I don't even want to give him the time to build his team because I know I won't like it at all. Again he is fecking 6th and whenever he can make a jump in the top 4, he bottles it and he can't put up a good performance and get a result against any of the top teams. Why do people keeping defending him and his weird decisions that are clearly hurting us...?

It matters to me that he was rewarded with a good performance with the elbow. You are the one who seems to have th problem with him starting.

You and I don't know what's going on behind the scenes at United.

But all the childish moans about his shirt number being changed back in August, rumours of sulking because he doesn't play, rumours of his agent trying to sound out a move, rumours he doesn't want to play on the wing..... have you thought for a second he isn't playing because his attitude is poor?

The guy has been distinctly average this season, people seem to forget some very poor annonymous performances earlier in the season, and maybe his attitude doesn't sit right with Mourinho.

I know who I would side with, the man who's won everything, the man in charge of our team, he best to judge a player, much better than you or I!

I think Carrick should be used in big games, midfield of Ander and Pogba + Mata is more than enough is so called easier games.

Thats the thing though, does he get the space and time in the big games to do what he does best? Im not so sure being honest.

Well he was good in some big games and in some smaller ones. He has been off the boil a bit last few games tbh but generally he has had a good season up until now.

I'm playing a drinking game. Every time that panther eejit says "we are 6th" I'm having a sip. Gonna be wankered by the end of the night. Anyone know where we are in the league table? Not sure it's been mentioned.
When we'll finally climb up the table he will find some other thing to moan about and he'll continue to be irritating.

Thoroughly enjoyable game imo. Particularly as I was watching with a Liverpool fan :) Slightly hesitant start, which I think reflects the recent poor results, but we looked more and more confident as the game went on. Overall a well deserved 3 points and a dominate performance. Good to see us regularly controlling games, regardless of the results.

And then I come on here to see some have still found something to whinge about. Deary me. Particularly ridiculous when Mourinho's treatment of Mkhitaryan has led to a MOTM performance by him today. Yet people complain when Martial gets similar treatment?

Another chance presents itself to close the gap on the top 4 and this time we have taken it so I am of course delighted. We could have scored more perhaps but we got the win and at this stage, with points to make up, that's all I really care about.
