1 goal all season and people are praising him. Wow. Imagine if we had a Haaland the reaction...

standards on the floor. When will the tide turn on this fellow? Or is simply working hard (the bare minimum in Keane's eyes and this forum in the 90s and 2000s) mean you get away with not scoring the goals needed as our main number 9? As the number 9 you need to be top scorer and scoring the goals on the regular.. no excuses.

Weghorst was the same. Becsuse a player puts effort in the Manchester United fans seem to ignore the lack of quality, or negatives of a player. Where as other big clubs fans are more balanced, and look at everything not just hard working as a big club has standards, and if you fall below those standards you get criticised. Standards.

Rasmus has missed some very easy chances, and should be criticised for such.

Terrible post, and also incorrect.

What's surprising to me is how rarely Antony crosses the ball. He used to do it more often for Ajax towards Haller, or at least that's what the highlights suggest.

Looking at his stats at Ajax he wasn't very good at it.

You do realize he has scored 3 in the champions league right?

You should probably try and watch a few United games.

One of the most factually incorrect posts of all time.

Even fans of opposition clubs are surprised at how good he has looked, but think he will fade into mediocrity because our forward line don't know how to play with a proper striker.

His lack of chances is certainly not his own doing, that's for sure.

His problem will be his partners in attack. Antony wants to assist but his crossing (and passing) is bellow par. And Rashford's current style of play (or form?) doesn't suit Hojlund.
He will come good without question but he simply must start scoring in PL.

He’s a £20 million backup player that has been bought for a fee that is usually only spent on top goalscorers.

He’s 2-3 years away from being at the required level to be the main number 9. That’s assuming he develops to that level as well.

All the best getting promoted.

It's quite wild just how incorrect this post is.

It's stunning to see people criticising Hojlund this season, both for output and performances.

He's 20 years old, first season in PL, first time in CL and busting his balls for the team each and every game.

He makes intelligent runs into the box which aren't being picked out by Rashford (too busy dribbling) and whoever has been plonked into RW that game. We have not had our first choice fullbacks for the bulk of the season and, when they are fit, you'd assume they'd be trained to cross the ball into the box more often.

Despite all of this, he is making chances on his own and, although his goal output isn't jaw dropping, he's done enough to justify starting week in week out.

I really don't know what people expect these days. Give the kid a break and focus your disappointment in performances to other areas of the squad. This isn't the one.

Yes, if it was 2015 and there was an abundance of strikers in the market.

I think he’s worth £30-£40m but we definitely got absolutely rinsed by Atlanta. I like a lot of what he does but he obviously shouldn’t be United’s starting CF at present. He would be absolutely perfect if we had purchased a world class CF as well, as any other top class club would have done in our circumstances.

Need a lot more of those Eriksen/Dalot balls in from the right which Maguire scored from but even when it's just Hojlund, guy is massive and should get a lot of joy against most CBs. If Antony can just stop shooting so much and put in inswingers instead, we'll score a lot from the right flank, LW is harder as Rashford isn't really geared towards assisting, maybe once Shaw is back or Reguillon gets fit we'll get more service from that side.

I think in the Copenhagen game, Højljund did about as much as can be expected from him under the circumstances. He created chances for others (backheel to McT, pass for Eriksen shot, throughball to Rashford), and almost created something out of nothing for himself, when he muscled his way through. The problem is noone created anything for him, besides that half-chance he put half a yard over target.

People will shit on his numbers until he gets a few in the league, but his conditions for success are terrible. Overall, it's been really encouraging and his play in and around the box has positively surprsied me. He looks like our best transfer this summer by quite a distance.

Nonsense, Weghorst was basically getting chances handed to him on a silver platter and still couldn't score. People hear had got fed up of him well into March.

Hojlund is literally getting the opposite service to Weghorst, having to feed off scraps of scraps. Rubbish service!

He looks the real deal to me. Plays like a proper centre forward should. Will score plenty once he gets going.

Rashford isn't playing well, but he has been basically the only one who created chances for him.

That is an absolutely wild take. Getting chances handed to him on a silver platter? He barely got any service, but it's also his own fault because his movement wasn't particularly good and he was very slow. Saying that he got served a lot of chances is incredibly wrong, and even the stats will back that up as Weghorst only missed 2 big chances in the PL last season, while Rashford missed 22 big chances, second most in the league.

Seems like an OK player with below par finishing for a striker - what the hell is wrong with our recruitment??!?

Comical post. A striker misses a few chances, and suddenly his finishing is shit.

Guess what, Haaland missed 28 big chances last season which was more than any other player, and he has 9 big chances missed this season already which is also the most of any player. It's part of the game.

Comical take.

Hojlund has done nothing to suggest that he is good finisher. Mediocre amount of goals last year and none so far this year in the PL.

Guess what? Haaland also scored 50 plus last year and was banging them in for Dortmund. Hojlund has done nothing of the sort.

He has scored 5 goals, two that were ruled out with extremely small margins. Three of his goals against Galatasaray (one that got ruled out) were all very well taken goals with good finishing. He also showed good finishing at Atalanta.

No idea what you're watching, but looking at your post history, I'm not surprised at your take.

5 goals - 2 of which were ruled out..? So 3 goals..???! With none in the PL.

Ah the old post history, resorted to that quite quickly didn’t you?

Thanks for the laugh mate - 5 goals of which 2 were ruled out.

:D

From what I've seen of him, Hojlund looks an outstanding young protect. His main problem at the moment is his 2 wingers (assuming it's Rashford and Antony), are incredibly self-indulgent and wasteful, and cut inside all the time trying (and usually failing) to take their own shots, rather than trying to feed their centre forward.

In fairness, Bruno will try to provide service to him, but Bruno's problem is he's very wasteful too, he'll give the ball away 9 times out of 10. Hojlund just has to hope that the 1 out of 10 times Bruno's pass comes off it will result in a chance for him.

An interesting vignette in the 2nd half v Copenhagen was Garnacho getting to the byline and zipping a low left footed ball across the face of the goal. Hojlund was stood back on the penalty spot and admonished Garnacho for not pulling it back. As a CF, Hojlund needs to get himself in the 6 yard box in those scenarios, but in many ways I can't blame him because he's probably not used to a United wide man zipping in crosses first time!

We're talking about his finishing, aren't we? So if a player scores a wonder goal but his left foot was 5 millimetres offside, you wouldn't say it was a good finish?

Yeah, he scored against Bayern München, but because he didn't score against Nottingham Forest, it's not relevant!

To be fair, you started writing about his finishing abilities, not his ability to get on the end of goal opportunities or goal numbers. But if you didn’t really mean to criticize his finishing, it’s all fair to go back on your own statements as long as you don’t move the goal posts.

He is, I would say, about average as a finisher. He is great at all round CF play but we haven’t created that many chances for him so he hasn’t had a great deal of in-match practice at finishing.

He seems to have a cool head and his movement is good. He just needs to hone his finishing a bit. Imo that will come but I wish we could do something more to make chances for him.

Man Utd 0:3 Man City
Seems to be the only player who fights for the shirt

I can't blame him, he is a 20 year old kid. He is not ready to be the main striker. Maybe in 3 or 4 years. Maybe.

I cannot understand how ETH watched this kid and decided "he will be my main striker in 2023". And we spent 70 million on him!

We used to have the best strikers in England.

It's another game where our striker hasn't scored. Trying not to be too hard on him, but he's playing the striker role at Man Utd and has to be offering so much more.

Just not United standard and never will be. He might be fast once he gets going by he lack the dynamism to play for a top club. Just too static for me.
