Not sure what that has to do with winning headers
Nothing but you compared him to Weghorst and made it sound like he was just another Weghorst. Rasmus is a much better player despite being much younger.

'McCarthy, who was famed for his composure in front of goal during spells at Ajax, FC Porto and Blackburn, has also been credited for Rashford's dramatic improvement in the heading department.'

You compared him to Weghorst - what were you expecting..
I compared his aerial ability to Weghorst
 So another Weghorst in the air then
So I expected replies to be around that facet of this game.

Its crazy to think United have lost Ronaldo, Cavani, Greenwood, over the last 12 months and have somehow qualified for CL with Martial and Weg.

It's not unreasonable to think United will sign 2 forwards this summer.

I agree Martial should be third choice (probably because no one else will take him off our hands), however I don't think Rashford should be second choice. He's not very good with his back to goal or linking up play.
He's not very good as a playmaker or creator on the wing either, yet we play him there. Every player has their weaknesses. Rashford's are the ones you mentioned. But he still has 11g and 5 assists in 15 full games as CF. He clearly does the job.

He doesn't need to be great with his back to goal if our main focus is to get him to score goals himself, instead of to bring other players into play to score. In the same way that his lack of playmaking, decision making, ball retention are not a problem on the left, because his job is not to create but to get in a position to finish our chances.

If you bring a striker to be the main focal point of the attack, Rashford's numbers might plummet again like they did with Ronaldo last year. Rashford is not a provider, he's a scorer.

His hold up play is brilliant. Way more technically refined than Haaland on the ball, for example.

Finishing definitely needs some work but I’d love him here.

I first noticed him earlier this season while watching Sesko for RB Salzburg. Thought he looked talented but maybe lacked a bit of a killer mentality in front of goal but I've been sold on him since watching him for Denmark against Finland.

Just need him to be linked to Liverpool first, so that he comes better than Haaland. Then sign him

The options are pretty poor though, when considering the prices.

The difference is Rashford's strengths are better utilised on the wing. It depends what kind of striker you sign as to whether Rashford's numbers plummet. If it's an unselfish striker (more of the Cavani type) then we will see Rashford's numbers from the left being similar to what they were in the 20/21 season. But if it's a Ronaldo type striker, who demands that you always look to pass to him otherwise he'll unfollow you on Instagram, then yes that wouldn't suit Rashford. Thankfully I don't think we have to worry about Ten Hag signing another Ronaldo.

Mehdi Taremi imo, one year left on his contract and also helps with build-up instead of just being a goal scorer. Delivers for both club and country and in the CL.
Actually a very good shout. Taremi + Hojland for a combined €70-80m would be very good business.

Preference is still Kane but that as a plan B, I like.

majority in this thread in a nutshell - we will be complaining no matter what, even if we get prime Messi for 25m will complain about not being not tall enough.

I think a big factor next season will be that Garnacho is now on a long contract and he will be getting a lot more game time next season which will mean more central play for Rashford.
Add in a returning player and the contract situation of Martial I would wager that only one forward will be added and if figures like 60-70 million are quoted for players with potential but not outstanding stats then we will pay the little bit extra for the finished article.

The Unamed has more chance of being chosen by Ten Hag to return than us buying a striker for 60 million who can’t score 9 goals in the Serie A.
Are you baulking at the price or the actual player?

Harry Kane scored 5 goals aged 20. Not every player has to dominate the opposition at that age, and everyone develops differently.

I don't think I'm coming at this from a bias viewpoint either just FYI as I prefer Evan Ferguson. But to just bring up his goal record is a bit basic.

Watched him a few times this season but he never struck me as United quality player. Seems most people and, obviously, the club rates him though.

He is still quite young and it will be to our benefit that he develops in England.

We need an established goalscorer not a 20 year old with 8 goals in serie a

I don't really understand the complaints here. People are more than happy to spunk a load of money on Evan Ferguson despite being just as raw but there's a hold up with this guy? We used to be excited to sign young talented forward players and now all anyone is doing is complaining, he's not the finished article and yes he doesn't currently have the highest amount of goals but the kid has talent and could be a brilliant player for us.

I swear Woodward has messed up your brains because all you seem to care about is signing the most world class big name players for huge fees we can get our hands on for every position so that we can dunk on rival fans on Twitter and shit instead of building a damn team for now and the future, first Mount and now Hojlund man it's sad to see.
Hang on, you're saying lots of stuff here which don't necessarily follow. You're saying people are complaining about Hojlund and want Ferguson instead who is equally as raw and unproven, but then accusing Woodward of having messed up people's brains because they only care about signing world class big name players? How is Ferguson a world class big name player and how is he representative that people have had their brains messed up by Woodward?

It's not just about selfish or unselfish mate, it's about skillset there too. Rashford is not a provider, because it's not in his skillset not because he's selfish (although he is a bit of that too). Rashford isn't Grealish and Grealish isn't Rashford.

For example I'm not saying Osimhen is selfish, but he's clearly the kind of striker who shoots on sight and is more adept as the finisher of the team, as opposed to someone who brings others into play like Kane. A striker who likes to play on the shoulder (like Rashford) instead of drop deep, or a striker who's more likely to take a shot than eye a pass, is going to lead to diminished output from Rashford. And it has nothing to do with instagram unfollows and pettiness.

And Rashford scoring less might be all good so long as we're better as a team for it, it's a team sport, but it's not certain. There's no point in transferring Rashford's goals to a #9 if only for Rashford to regress to 5 goals a season again. We'd be back where we were.

The idea of getting in a Hojlund is good, Erik can develop and mould him into his own really.
Also need to consider the level of service, that RW position has got to be facilitated by someone who can provide, Rashford explosive but not creative obviously

Exciting talent and a good backup striker for now, but he's not good enough to lead the line for us yet so hopefully he won't be our only striker signing.

If you substitute Hoijland for Martial and add Benzema to the mix then that would bring a minimum of 20-25 extra goals, this would have given us enough to be challenging methinks.
What time is it all the time it’s easy to take the piss out a bit players players go down a bit that’s what it feels like today this morning as soon as I put the notification bell on as well because the transfer window open today he’s gonna be until the 1st of September and notification bell is the time we do this job and surprised bye
Depends on what we base it on. If we look at his age and talent and compare to someone like Antony and what we paid for him, Id say 60 million is probably what he would cost.
I think it will be €50m plus €20m in bonuses so initially £43m this deal can get done and we might sign Lautaro Martinez as our experienced Striker on €70m plus €15m. This is what I think might actually happen.

Can we please stop using "games" as some kind of argument? A "game" does not mean that the player has finished 90 minutes. It doesn't mean that he's even started the game. It means that he's had some contribution to the game in terms of minutes. This can be as many as a full game, and as little as a few minutes.

Hojlund has 15 goals and 7 assists from 2,468 minutes across all competitions. If you add up all the minutes played it's the equivalent of just over 27 full matches. That's 22 direct goal contributions in 27 full games. That's not bad for a first season in Serie A.

I'm sure most are assuming he would be a back-up to learn off a more established striker.
Do you think most are assuming we are going to spend 160mil on two strikers?
If they are they are in cuckoo land :houllier:

People really will whinge at anything. Signing a young player with immense talent is even a case for a big fat moan.

None of us know what the full plan of attack is ffs, this is exciting regardless.

Bit torn about this one cause we'll probably be paying end product money for a prospect again. On the other hand he's an upgrade over Weghorst and Martial at this point. Don't know what the plans are surrounding an experienced striker or if we'll just stick with injury prone Martial in that role but at least we're looking like we are trying to do business early which I can only commend.

Well we aren't signing a RB now apparently, and reports seemed to suggest that even CB wasn't much of a priority either so... might not be outside the realms of possibility
