The bloke thought that Pearson was twice the player of McTominay. No point in looking towards him for an objective opinion about McTominay
It’s not a even a stretch to say that Pearson was better than McTominay at youth level. While Pearson was very impressive at u18s(the year he was fit) and in the reserves, Scott hardly played at U18s and when he played at U23’s last year he was playing as a striker most games. That just shows how difficult it is to predict who’s going to make it, no need to be nasty about one of the best youth posters(@limerickcitykid )we have on this forum.
Enjoy the victory and that the club we love continue to play players from the academy.

Pearson was never going to be good enough to make it. I liked him in the youth teams but he was never as good as people thought. Just blood and thunder in the youth side.

Lol get over it you muppet, I can have my opinion. He was shit last game and good this game, why is that a problem?

I've not been impressed with him in total, but today he showed why he gets in the team. Let's see if he can kick on and learn to attack next.
In his last title winning team, Jose played with Matic and Kante together. What makes you think he’s going to be attacking any time soon?

Strip Lindelof of that name and give it to Scott.

I thought he played surprisingly well, though that type of match scenario suits him far more than when we are chasing the game.

Personally, I didn't think he was that bad against Palace. He was poor but so was most of the team in the first half, in part because Palace pressed us hard, then paid the price as they ran out of gas towards the end of the 2nd half. Still, it was the correct decision to substitute him after the yellow card, and the need to create more to get back in the game.

He does need to improve a lot but I think it is becoming evident that he is a player worth investing time in.

No worries
Absolutely delighted with him. He has stepped up recently during our mini midfield crisis and put in some big performances in big matches, none more so than today. Did everything right today. Well done lad!

Absolutely immense from him, didn't put a foot wrong all game, good composure on the ball when other players might've just booted it or lost the ball.

He thought at the start of the season. Also I watch as much as youth football as most on here so I know who are the best posters on that forum or not.

Thinks because he watches some youth games that his opinions on Scotty are more valid. It's hilariously arrogant.

Thought McTominay was excellent today. Matic was the stand-out player on the pitch, for me, and it's great to have somebody so experienced next to the youngster. Very promising debut season. He's not done a whole lot wrong.

His best game since he came in and that was the performance of a world class seasoned player in a disciplined role and important position.

His best performance today in me eyes. He hasn't got that passing range but a very disciplined performance.

No offence, but who I find helpful and knowledgeable when I’m watching youth football is not really something you can decide.

Didn't expect that from him today and was over the moon with his performance. I think what we can say is that on the games we need to hold our position and be disciplined (see Chelsea, Sevilla, today) he is very well suited to them and fits in great. The games we need to dominate (like Palace) he probably isn't suited for just yet until he develops his forward passing a bit more.

Think he has been very good in the last 3-4 games. Throw him into crucial matches, and he never has looked overawed even once. I am really starting to believe that he could go on to become a Matic like player in the future.

On to today’s performance, he was phenomenal. Did his job to perfection. Possibly one of our biggest matches this season, and he stepped up to the occasion. What really surprised me was how calm and mature his performance was today. Played like a veteran.

How amazing is it that, despite the millions we have spent, it’s two academy lads that were pivotal for the win, against our biggest rivals, in a crucial match.
Matic mentioned him as a future United captain and most here still missed the clue

It's clear some people have made up their minds that he's not good enough. That's great and all but they should be judging what's in front of their eyes and this guy has been a revelation when everything is taken into context. I didn't think he stood a chance of getting any meaningful game time - to be honest he didn't impress me at all in what I saw of him last season - but by god, he's surpassed what I expected from him.

Scott moves the ball real quick to the forwards. Very crucial in a big game.

A question I asked to all this doubters was...when has Mourinho ever praised a youngster for the sake of praise. Love him hate him but JM doesn’t beat around the bush.

I thought he did well today, he is discplined, hard working and mature. He is suited to doing a job in defensive performances particularly.

However it was another game where he didn’t touch ball very often, didn’t make many passes and only made 1 tackle. To have any kind of long term future that will have to improve.

You can tell he's being mentored by Matic. Was doing a lot of the stuff that Matic is a specialist at today.

Hmm. Yes, probably when we're chasing game, Scott is not so effective and we have more suitable players for that, but in games where we're attempting to take control of the game and being discipline maintaining structure and possession even leads, McTominay can be very effective. We failed to control the game against CP, and we spent most of that times chasing wins. Perhaps his passing and creativity is holding him back atm.

Edit: Need more chasing wins games to evaluate better. :smirk: Still a useful at least squad player.

Pretty impressive, what he maybe lacks in overall ability compared to some he more than makes up for it in understanding his limits and what he is good at. Today he showed a maturity beyond some of the more established players we have.
he’ll probably never be the guy that gets all the plaudits or scores 10 a season, but he looks like the guy who will knit the whole thing together. Just a solid good proffesional.

I'm not saying he can't play in these type of games, but we have players who are more adventurous like a Mata who should probably play in those as Scott as still quite reserved in his passing and one or our major flaws is creation against the lower teams. I do think the forward passing will come with McTominay though in time. But it will most likely be after a good amount of games in the first team. That may even be 18 months or so. We just have to be patient and enjoy the good things he brings to the team until then.
