Moyes II!
The Torygraph’s idea for a sensational headline during the transfer window!
It’s bollox.

No way he would turn down United for England - hopefully this is just bollocks though as he would be terrible.Folks still bitter about England at the World Cup
Not convinced he's the right fit for United and as an England fan I hope and think he would opt to stay if approached anyway.
I’m English and supported Southgate and the team. When it comes to looking for a new manager, reaching that semi final was no more impressive than Ole’s winning streak against cannon fodder.Folks still bitter about England at the World Cup
And Simeone.Perhaps my worst nightmare outcome right now. Conte and Ancelotti close second.
This. He’d be a good candidate IMO though I am not sure why he’d leave England at this moment in time.

I know the thread before was locked, but an actual link this time.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.
Locking your thread felt like a silly bit of power tripping at the time, even more so now.Yes it was my thread.. and never got a reason for locking it, other someone thought the idea of Southgate as a possibility was a stupid concept. I did ask. It never broke any rules.
I never thought threads were locked because an individual admin disagreed with an opinion. But that is what appeared to have happened.
Having said that it is not the first time I have suggested something unpopular that ends up being a thing. (Schneiderlin and Schweinstiger not a fit, Moyes incredulity as he was too negative to be a fit). Somehow because a newspaper is now writing about the possibility, there is some kudos?
In all honesty it was not rocket science. He is the kind of guy that would go through the club from top to bottom, and very much like Ole, give players a lift. He has tactical nous as shown in the World Cup, will take great interest in our youth, will embrace the club philosophy (he sets up England in that way) and I honestly think he is a real possibility. I certainly would not be down on him as quite a few seem to be.
Not only that we are being incredibly arrogant and conceited to think that Poch would just automatically down tools and come to United, with the Real job potentially coming up, plus he has a side he helped build with better players. I think it is interesting that so far it has gone quiet on whether Paul Mitchell, who has worked with Poch as former Spurs head of recruitment is coming to united as director of football. Pick him up and all the signs would be that Poch is pulling some strings at Old Trafford. But nothing has been signed and sealed on that.
However as I said in a previous thread, I would not be discounting Ole. I am amazed that with five wins in a row he has been given no carrot from above (he indicated such at the recent press conference).
I am not sure that Ole wins in terms of experience, to be fair. Southgate has more experiences of English league management than Ole, albeit it bad. But he has clearly learnt from that and his experience in transforming the England side have to be respected. If Ole doesn't, in the end, show the tactical nous, he will need, then I would put Southgate up there, because he would embrace the United philosophy. We really don't need an ego manager who thinks the club should adapt to him.People on here were idiotic to mock this idea when it was initially brought up. Southgate is very much the antithesis of Mourinho, and, like Ole, has an approach more more suited to modern players as well as the optimistic manner of a man yet to be broken by the weight of his own ego.
That said, Ole is a more experienenced manager and a club legend too. So if it's an either or, it's Ole. No question.
What tosh. What has Ole done at club level? Are managers not allowed to have failure and then grow. Southgate has. If you cannot see how Southgate has transformed the England side, by taking an interest in all levels of the set up, having decent tactical nous and actually playing form players then you are blind, old chap.Horrendous candidate and can only assume it's media BS
What's he ever done as a manager at club level? What's he done with England apart from not be as terrible as other managers? We lost to the first good team we played in the WC, just happened to get a great draw.
But happy with Ole?International football management is a lot easier because you don't come across tactical gurus like Pep and Mourhino managing international teams hence it's easier for mediocre managers to stand out. Also, you don't come across too many top teams as well. Southgate has done well with England but he'd need to go into club managent and do something noticeable before even being considered. I felt the same when low was considered as a potential manager for us.
You need less qualifications if you're an insider. Ole wouldn't even be considered if he didn't have history with us and he won't be considered if he doesn't get us into top 4 and if he does than that would definitely make him more qualified because he'd have guided a team 12 pts off the top 4 and in absolute dissary into the champions League.Eh?
Guiding the national team to two international finals now, getting to the semis in the world cup > Winning the Norwegian league 10 years ago.
Hes certainly more qualified.
As I've said in another post I'd only be happy if he gets us into 4th which would mean he's done something significant in club football. But happy with Ole?
Just had a wee check to see if I ever got a response to why they thread was locked. Still none. It clearly was someone being a bit silly.Locking your thread felt like a silly bit of power tripping at the time, even more so now.
There will be quite a few fans who would agree that a manager who has won nothing is good enough for United. None of the shortlisted managers that we know of have won anything. I, personally, think we have to be openminded. I like all the candidates. My preference would be Ole and Phelan, if they show in the next month or six weeks that they are able to cope with the challenge of tackling the better teams in Europe. As I've said in another post I'd only be happy if he gets us into 4th which would mean he's done something significant in club football.
I think there is a better chance of Southgate taking the United job than Poch coming. And I think that is why the England manager's name is being floated right now. I personally think United have a lot of work to do to persuade Poch that Old Trafford is the place for him. They were speaking of this on Sunday Supplement this morning. They don't feel that Southgate would leave his Job atm to manage United, maybe in later years they say.
Another thing they said was, if they could persuade Poch to join he would have a 500 million kitty to spend on transfers. I think that Ole should be given some of this to spend now. We have a chance of top 4 finish and are in 2 cups, and we all know we are weak at the back and could do with a RW also.
This does not give Ole a fair crack of the whip if the club don't bring in at least 2 players this window.
