I don’t think anyone is denying racism is not a problem any more in the UK, but if anyone can point towards an incident where half a stadium is chanting racist slurs or one individual is subject to racist chants whilst arriving at the match in the last 30 years I would be amazed.
It’s a whole different stratosphere.
It seems like there is very little/ no appetite for change either especially when the bloke running the show pretty much denies everything and implicitly blames the person complaining.
Shitshow.
 
Best winger in the world right now, I would take him at United in a heartbeat. I question the sanity of anyone who wouldn't.

Lewis Hamilton, as the only black driver in a sport with historic far right links, had the temerity to ask people in F1 to at least acknowledge this kind of thing exists and many people acted as if that was somehow unreasonable.

But the events in Spain over the weekend just prove how endemic racism is in sport, particularly against people of colour.

It really does feel as if the progress that had been made on racism was illusory.

I don’t think the progress made was illusory.

I think real progress was made, but a lot of it is being undone by what’s happening politically across the World with the powers that be encouraging a hard turn into right wing politics and toward fascism the World over.

This is what happens when 20 years of right wing dog whistle politics is normalised and absorbed by the general public.
 
I would love to see him in the premiership, but if he does move it would seem so unfair that he has effectively been hounded out of a league by racism.

Think it’s wishful thinking to assume he will leave Madrid over this incident. Doesn’t change the fact though that it’s vile abuse and paints the whole league with a pretty horrible brush. He clearly loves Madrid though and I just don’t see him leaving.

I'm honestly just disappointed we as a team didn't do more to support him in that situation. Talk is cheap, we should have left the pitch

Yeah, it was more Courtois and Vazquez that were actually defending Vini. In general I'm surprised Benzema and Modric didn't do more, weak show of captaincy. Casemiro would have defended Vini more forcefully and called for them leaving the pitch

Only way I see him move is if they sign Mbappe, but I think Mbappe choose himself to play CF in PSG this year to be ready for that role at RM

It is a deep rooted problem in society. It is not just Spain, look at Italy and Balo for example, Portugal also had a Porto (I think?) player abused not too long ago. However Tebas’s comments as a person with influence, just bad.

I hope he doesn’t leave though, by leaving it feels like the racists have won

I think enough is enough now. He must leave Spain and that is the only way a statement will be made.

On a personal level, I haven't travelled across Europe much but don't think I would be planning a trip to Spain any time soon.

No, because then the racists win. They want him out because he's gifted, brilliant, they cannot stop him by conventional means and when they kick him to smithereens he dares to have the audacity to call them on it. And then the local sports press riles up the atmosphere against him and the racists get a free hand in the stadium to chant what they want.

The best statement is a comprehensive reform of how to tackle, indentify and punish racial (and identity based) abuse in general in stadiums. And a reform of legislation to go with it.

Oh and Tebas has to go too.

But how many more instances does the boy have to face before the statement is made? A more realistic statement would be that he leaves and identifies racism as the only reason.

If Tebas' reaction to the recent incident doesn't lead to his downfall, then Spain isn't going to be serious about racism.
