No, you said he "was gone", gone where I'm not so sure...
Cal, what the feck are you trying to defend? your lover played like an amateur today, he was deservedly redcarded and yet his team managed to win

face it, Ronaldo was not needed for real to win today

tough!

I was still arguing with Snake regarding Xavi in 2012.

So he had a bad game, it happens, are you trying to claim Messi has never ever had a bad game?

I said his best form was gone. Big difference. You know you're fecked when you have to resort to making stuff up, humiliated again.
So you're now claiming slightly worse than his best ever can be called "gone".

Fine - Messi "is gone", since he's clearly not at his 11-12 level.

I agree with all of that, nothing to argue about.

Are you claiming Messi has never ever had a shit game and Barca still won?

It's why messi has always been easily better. Messi doesn't need goals to play brilliantly. Ronaldo does. One is frequently on the periphery of games but always amongst the goals. The other is always a huge part of the game and always amongst the goals. Both brilliant footballers.
This pretty much sums up my opinion on Ronaldo and why i think he is over rated in general. I can't question his goal scoring as it is phenomenal even without penalties.

As a player though he doesn't even compare to Messi and people just look at goals and judge the players purely on that.

Messi can do things on the pitch that just leave me with my jaw hanging, his ball control, vision, passing, dribbling and finishing is just out of this world. He can literally do everything on the pitch.

Madrid have some tough games incoming. How many matches he is likely to miss? Could be chance for Bale to step-up.

It's crazy how many more assists he'd have if Alba and Neymar are a wee bit more clinical. The amount of incisive goalscoring opportunities he creates per game is incredible to say the least.

Latest games not updated, but you get the idea. This is a fun chart that this guy does for various players.
EDIT: Someone noticed that the Messi curve looks like shape of a lion's head!!

King Messi is quickly catching Ronaldo up in terms of goals, it seems Ronaldo has slowed down a bit in recent weeks and that red card today sure didn't help.

Both take turns in being the best, but if i'm going to judge them both from the very start till this moment, then in my mind, messi would be the better player without a doubt.

They both take turns between being the best goalscorer. But Messi is the more gifted of the two. It takes a special kind of bias (and pair of eyes) not to see that.

It doesn't matter who's the most gifted, i've enjoyed watching ronaldinho more than ronaldo and messi combined, but he never performed to their standards.

In recent years ronaldo was the better player, messi was always close, and it seems he's currently edging it. Overall i agree that messi is the better player.

In my humble opinion, the only time Ronaldo has been truly, definitely, certainly the better player was the 2007-08 season. Since then, only his numbers have been better at certain points. I admire Ronaldo greatly, but Messi is extraterrestrial.

I was firmly in Ronaldo's corner but starting to have doubts now. Sure tap-ins and penalties are goals, but 80 percent of the Messi goals seems to be at least good and regularly great... that means something and it also means in a tight game the dwarf is more likely to provide a moment of genius because he is less reliant on others.

Ronaldo has alot of assists this year as well but if you put a side by side compilation of all the through passes and assists made by either, the difference in quality is staggering...

Messi will always be the greater of the two,his recent performances have been exceptional, he was a win away(WC final) from being the greatest ever in my opinion, wouldn't have been up for debate.

It's not a contest when you consider every aspect of their games and what they bring to the team. Holistically Messi wins hands down every single time.

The stats do miss lead people to give Ronaldo probably more praise than he deserves. People will call him better than Messi but anyone that says that clearly has not watched enough of Messi too give a proper opinion on it.

They will see Ronaldo has this many goals and that will be the end of it for them. The difference in class is not just tiny but i think Messi is on a different level to Ronaldo altogether as it's not even close for me.

I tend to call Ronaldo over rated purely for the fact people call him better and compare him to Messi. The fact is if u are comparing Ronaldo in the same sentence as Messi u are over rating Ronaldo because Messi is a far better player.

The quality of the goals that Messi scores are exceptional as well, Ronaldo does get a lot of service to score easy goals which is not always easy but if u compare it to Messi it's not even close.

It's really not.

You can make a compilation of Messi's passing in yesterday's game and that alone is frighteningly brilliant. He basically does the ridiculous goalscoring Ronaldo does and a lot more.

Yep, he's the best passer in the world and scores a goal every game. Unreal. There is a clear gap between him and Ronaldo and it's about as definitive as the gulf between Ronaldo and the rest of the fied.

With Cristiano that's going on for a while now. I remember in one of Mourinho's seasons Alonso getting tasked with the indirect freekicks and Özil with the direct ones because Cristiano was just wasting them. Özil scored the last second equalizer against Dortmund in the CL group stages for example.

Messi's freekicks have also regressed but that's relatively new.

Both Bale and Neymar are better freekick takers anyway. Shame neither gets to take many. Silly that Messi took a freekick from the left yesterday which was the optimal position for Neymar.
