This was it.
Spurs are miles away. Liverpool are closer but I still don't think we're that bad up front that we 'require' Pedro.

We would just benefit greatly with Rooney having some genuine competition.

Your post does sound rather over the top to me.

How? I don't see how saying a top class proven forward that has the attributes our manager has said we lack would secure us top 4 is over the top, we have left the door open for Liverpool who people are just arrogantly dismissing, just because I am not I don't see that as over the top.

Really ? brugge is the first time in a while i've felt good about the attack and even then it could be better. I find this really interesting because van gaal came out and said that young and mata, while good, weren't good enough to compete with the best.

I agree about rooney but there aren't any class no.9 left.

Really! I doubt he said that.

Bet the newbies are on another level of meltdown!
I believe the newbies are much better than the mains. Even facebook comments aren't as bad as some of the things that I have read here, and we all know how retarded facebook comments usually are.

Thing is, with a growing forum it's bound to happen. You get more "comedians" who say controversial things to be funny, you get more idiots, and you get a wider range of genuine opinions.

Couple that with the fact a lot of our supporters are used to us being pretty dominant, this is all new to them, sure they're going to have meltdowns. It's pretty horrible to read some of the stuff, cringeworthy, but it's something we're going to have to get used to. There is always more discussion when things aren't going perfectly, when something goes right people don't comment.

We also have a good few who feel they can only get their point across by exaggerating.

Instead of 'I don't rate Jones and here's why...'
its: 'Jones is shocking. One of the worst players to wear the shirt'

Or the classic 'I can name 20 players his age who are much better'

What irks me is the shockingly inept (no exaggeration there) handling of the Pedro affair. Regardless of how, why or when we reportedly lost interest in him, we've given the media a golden opportunity - which they've gleefully grabbed with both hands - to portray us as dithering and inept. Very, very poor from a PR perspective.

TBF there's nothing we can do. The media reports our bid, rejected bids, lost of interest, and suddenly Chelsea stole the thunder, there's nothing much we can do about Chelsea wanting to bid on Pedro, nor expecting the media not to know about our bids on pedro.

Could it have handled better? If we don't want him in the first place, but there are interest and formal bids, so unless we really match what Chelsea are willing to pay I don't think there's anything else we can do. It could have been a damage limitation, who knows behind the closed door Pedro chooses Chelsea over us. Losing interest >>> Pedro chosing Chelsea over United.

Not the best scenario, but what's done is done

That is a massive exaggeration.

Yeah, let's put a bid in for Daily mail and Guardian.

I find it incredible that on Tuesday night we had our best attacking performance of the season, saw a new number 7 dominate a Champions League game, and by Wednesday afternoon the caf was in meltdown about signings. The reaction is worse than when we went into the 2006/07 season with just Carrick and Kusczak as new acquisitions. Its a good thing twitter didn't exist back then.

I just find it strange that we announced we had "lost interest" only when he was on the verge of signing for Chelsea.

One good performance against substandard opposition doesn't make a 50 plus game season.

There were lots of positives to take from it, but our areas of weakness are obvious and over a long season they'll be exposed. The club have repeatedly failed to address issues with the squad over the last few years so I can see why fans are concerned - especially when City and Chelsea, who already have better squads overall are adding quality players.

I partly agree with you. Sure, Pedro may have been lured away in the last minute by Chelsea. Such things can happen in football transfers. And the obvious thing to declare would be that we didn't want him. But if the Mane leaks came from our end (appears to be the case), that is the actual PR disaster IMO. Now the situation looks like we've chosen Mane over Pedro.

Absolutely spot on. I genuinely can't believe some of the sheep I've seen writen on here recently. The internet generation; self-entitled, attention starved, know-it-all, impatient, whiny zombies who take every gutter rag's rumours as gospel and have no idea about what happens behind the scenes at football clubs.

Probably because it was Brugge, hardly world beaters are they you would expect us to look good against them.

I do agree people are overeating though, end of the day it's Pedro but the way some are reacting you'd think we've just lost out on signing messi or Ronaldo. I still think we've got something up our sleeve in terms of a transfer anyway.

I think the reaction has more to do with how it happened rather than the fact that it was (only) Pedro.

And I'm definitely not overeating because of it - I can do that perfectly well without any external motivation ;)

It's the damn autocorrect on iPad I have to check it all the time because it constantly changes words. If I'm rushing then I don't really check it and stuff like that happens.

But yeah I guess my diet starts tommorow. It's Good enough reason for me.

Too much drama here, over anything and everyone. People freak out like 14 year old girls who learn that their boyband breaks up.

When I first saw this thread I immediately thought, someone will get tagged, they will come in and throw a hissyfit trying to defend themselves and it will get personal. Kinda the opposite of play the post and not the poster.

We played three games.

Anything would have been an improvement in terms of attacking performance over the first two games.

It was against Brugge.

Brugge team that was also missing a lot of players. Man City beat the champions 3-0. Yet they going after Otamendi and De Bruyne.

Remind me who have the champions signed all summer?

They about to sign Pedro.

But they made a mistake of sitting back and not improving their team, whilst the others have. Which is why Mourinho has been pissed.

I feel we still need a forward player. But to say oh we beat Brugge and don't need anymore signings is silly.

I don't think it's been that much of a meltdown to be honest, seen much much worse on here.

Sure there's those who exaggerate but theyre equally matched by those professionally outraged by negative comments. I honestly think the bigger meltdown is those who have handled this by putting head firmly in sand and believing we pulled out. It may turn out we did but it's bloody unlikely .
