Di Maria's angel
Captain of Moanchester United
I'd like to see him come on for a few minutes. Would be a great end to the season.
NoAre people serious when they say they would like to see him feature?
He's clearly no way near fit enough to be anyway near the pitch. He's not even started contact training.
Do you really need to ask that?
I completely agree that it isn't as simple as that. Though Luke will have the very best facilities, S&C coaches and Physios around him to give him the best possible chance of making a full recovery. The S&C coaches will work with the physios to lay out a rehab program to specialise in strengthening all the muscles and secondary muscles affected by the injury so I really hope that he will be able to have full confidence in making a full stride during a sprint (if he doesn't already). Best case scenario is that the rehab program will strengthen some areas that he may have previously had a weakness and lower his risk of future injuries as well. Whatever happens, I can't wait to see him back out on the pitch for us.Its so hard to really build up the strength in the atrophied muscles to the point where you can be really confident to sprint. I did my ACL over ten years ago. It changed my gait, so I walk slightly differently and over time the muscles on my other leg have become stronger than my injured leg. Even after rehab all that time ago, I still get hamstring pulls and quad strains in my left leg because of it being weaker than my right and when I sprint - I sprint at the strength of my right leg obviously! Now, of course I'm not a professional athlete and I don't have the attention and workload and help that Man Utd will give him - but my point is its not as simple as being "I'm not injured, I'm playing again" (not that anyone else has said that!).
I hope so. Unfortunately the boy had suffered his share of injuries at quite a young age.I believe Luke will come back strong next season and fulfill his potential. He can become a fantastic player for us.
How about the fact that the player that did that to him scored not long after. I know it wasn't a malicious tackle but still. PSV the club and its supporters were class throughout it all though. It still fecking annoys me that this happened to him.
I am convinced had he avoided the challenge that night he would have scored and our whole season might have been less disappointing. I do agree it was a horrible injury and very hard to watch that night.I hope so. Unfortunately the boy had suffered his share of injuries at quite a young age.
Well its difficult to say. Its true that defense looked more solid with Shaw in it. However I am not that sure that Shaw's contribution would have been enough to cover for LVG-Giggs administration mess up.I am convinced had he avoided the challenge that night he would have scored and our whole season might have been less disappointing. Wondering that too, what was the last update on his recovery? (Too lazy to go back through the thread)Thought there'd been some news. Wonder if he'll make the pre-season games?

Thankfully leg breaks aren't that complicated to recover from really, and not as bad as ligament tears. It's just a matter of the bone healing more or less and he'll be fine. The main thing for him will be to mentally get that bravery back and not start pulling out of challenges out of fear of getting injured again, but the injury shouldn't put him back too much I wouldn't think.I completely agree that it isn't as simple as that. It's a new era for us all now and this new squad being built is exciting and it can only be an improvement over the last three years.Well its difficult to say. I hope the boy will return to his former best and keep on progressing. He's one of the most promising full backs in this generation and losing him that way would be simply terrible. We're building quite a decent young side with DDG, Smalling, CBJ, Shaw, Martial, Bailly and hopefully Pogba and Embolo. Fingers crossed that Shaw won't be the Ben Thornley of this generation. I would absolutely hate that

Apparently he'll be doing similar to what he did last season, cut his holidays short and train with physio etc to try and ensure he's in best shape possible.Wondering that too, what was the last update on his recovery? (Too lazy to go back through the thread)

Im sorry but the defender done him. He knew exactly what he was doing. He may have not intended to actually break Shaws leg but he went in hard and intended to hurt. How about the fact that the player that did that to him scored not long after. I don't think it was deliberate but I'm still very frustrated about this because I still believe it was a major turning point in our season. A fit Shaw would have had a major positive impact on our season.Im sorry but the defender done him. He knew exactly what he was doing. Ask anybody whos ever played ball. That is not a clean one legged challengeunder any streach of any imagination. As far as im concerned its a scissors chalenge and he should of got at least a 10 game ban. You get 8 games for caling someone a name. But you stop him playing for a year and its "how awful" and nothing more.
Trapped him with the botom leg and did the damage with the top.... Pure filth

To be honest even if the defender had been sent off and we'd been awarded a penalty which is what should have happened,i don't think we'd have lost that match and we would have ended up qualifying for the knock out rounds. Not that I believe we'd have progressed much anyway.
I think we as United fans need to take a deep breath, and move on from this horrible incident otherwise we'll all end up bitter and angry.
Can't wait to see him back.
I understand what you are saying as I'm on the same boat but you've gotta realize apart for all the professional advantage he has, his injury is virtually nothing compared to an ACL in term of rehabilitation and the risk of it being a problem in the future. I do worry a lot more about his mental side of things. It doesn't matter how strong or confident he is, it will take time for him to complete forget this traumaIts so hard to really build up the strength in the atrophied muscles to the point where you can be really confident to sprint. Yeah, I suffered a tib-fib break but it included the ankle. The ankle was what held me back, not the bones even though one was a spiral fracture.Thankfully leg breaks aren't that complicated to recover from really, and not as bad as ligament tears. I'ven been playing football since I was 5 years old like. I didn't think it was a dirty tackle, he went for the ball. I don't know really I mean football is not for everyone, the physical side of football that is. Never a sending off in my honest opinion but perhaps your love for the club clouds your judgement a tad bit.Im sorry but the defender done him. He knew exactly what he was doing. Only bone I broke was a metatarsal so that was basically fine after a month and a bit, but I tore my ACL and meniscus a few years back so that took about a year and a bit to actually get back to playing football (partially though due to weather just not letting me play sooner). Wasn't back to being perfectly normal on the pitch until a few months back, and my surgery was June 2014. So those take a long time with all the twists and cutting inside. Just seems a lot more complicated to recover from then a leg break because my knee will always feel weak and I won't ever fully trust it probably, so I've just learned to adapt the way I cut when playing or the way I shoot and pass with my left leg.Yeah, I suffered a tib-fib break but it included the ankle. I'm also convinced that that one tackle cost us millions, as stability at LB would have been worth at least one point in the league.
I have dished out my fair share of punishment on the football pitch. Took some too as you'd expect, goes with the teritory. Nobody slides with there legs open to cross them in the tackle with out actually meaning it. Had he of only slid, his momentum whould just sweep Shaw aside. Probably cause no injury.I'ven been playing football since I was 5 years old like. I didn't think it was a dirty tackle, he went for the ball.
