EU Referendum Results Thread | Leave have won, Cameron resigns

How did you vote to this: Should the United Kingdom remain a member of the EU or leave the EU?

  • Remain a member of the European Union

    Votes: 321 75.5%
  • Leave the European Union

    Votes: 80 18.8%
  • Spoiled ballot

    Votes: 24 5.6%

  • Total voters
    425
  • Poll closed .
Didn't think Leave would win. I guess Cameron and the other Remain campaigners seriously underestimated the discontent with the EU.

Just got up and seen the news. I voted leave and am obviously delighted. As I said in the other thread last week this is a result based more on the absolutely dire quality of the Remain campaign's project fear that anything else. Wrong message from day #1 and they never changed it.

Now to read the massive meltdown this thread is sure to be. Should be even better than the last election one :)
So what is the amazing leave campaigns project that persuaded you to risk the future of all the young people in the UK?

But you were happy with people who don't live there deciding your laws, against your countrymens will?

The EU isn't perfect but I'd much rather be in than out of it.

Besides, if the choice is between being dictated to by Brussels or Tories in London it's an absolute no-brainer to me.

Or you could watch the meltdown of the markets instead?

Well, that's my future decided. Don't currently live in Britain, and I definitely have no future there. Kind of useful, actually, as now I'm more certain of where I'll live, whereas it was quite ambiguous prior to all of this.

I wish Scotland and Northern Ireland all the best in whatever they decide to do, particularly the former. Their majority has spoken, and it's clear that they and England need to go their separate ways.

Oh it's already been a good laugh. And when you so put forward any kind of reasonsble response to the remoans it's ignored entirely (@Minimalist) in favour of reaffirming their own beliefs that anyone who voted out is an unintelligent racist.

I can't believe Leave actually won. I always figured common sense would prevail in the end. Feels like your country has been set back decades. The saddest part about it is by all accounts the younger generations were overwhelmingly in the Remain camp, meaning the older, conservative generations have given your country a future that younger people never wanted.

I don't understand this. I genuinely can't grasp how leave won. Maybe I'm missing something, being Belgian and not having followed this from the very beginning but seriously, why? How on earth do you lot gain from this?

I am sorry if I said somewhere that ALL are that but ALOT of them very clearly are from having personally chatted to them. They are scared and blame ghosts (immigrants they don't even see or know and evil bureaucracy they don't understand) for problems that should be dealt with by their own national government or even by themselves.

I hope I'm wrong about jobs. I really am because it's going to tear lives apart and it will not make me feel much better knowing I voted to remain.

No not all racists.

All morons.

Yeah, there was an article on the BBC before the election about London being independent. The idea sounds completely farcical, but it's obvious enough that there is a rift that needs to be addressed.

Already we have the Leave campaigners on TV saying we shouldn't rush to leave, and should take time for 'quiet reflection'. Too late for that you fecking morons, you just crashed the ship now deal with the repercussions.

You're right it's not perfect. But the EU will be a lot better off for our leaving, and so will we. We've had this meltdown plenty of times already, EU charter of European rights, Schengen agreement, the Euro, these were all seen as disaster moves by the UK. We've never had a particularly strong relationship with the political side of the EU.

Yes. Those in favour of staying in the UK told us that we would be out of the EU and wouldn't be guaranteed to get back in. That was a big selling point at the time.

Sorry i know it might not be for you but thats funny turn of events.

Feck it. Let them drag it out if it shows their incompetence.

I'm already convinced they can't do this in 2 years. It will be at least 3 if not longer before they do it.

Oh don't worry, all I can do is laugh too. I voted yes in the Scottish referendum anyway but those who did vote No based on EU membership might not find it so funny

I can't actually believe that leave has won but somehow I had a fear they might. Unfortunately it's the racist and unitelligent that have put the whole country at risk and for what! To make Britain 'great' again what a load of absolute shite. Just a completely and utterly ridiculous decision and now w will have to suffer the next few years while those idiots don't even have a clue what they have done.

They have democracy back. This could have been the last vote that really counted, but it turned out to be a vote that makes future elections count.

Words cannot begin to describe this post.

This vote does not mark the beginning of an independent UK, it marks the end of a United Kingdom full stop. Scotland, NI, arguably London all have cause to consider options.

As a Scot, words cannot begin to describe how disappointed I am with this. It's a complete misrepresentation of what we want and it will result in only one thing - another referendum.

The Eu should act quickly at this point and it should safeguard it's own interests. No point allowing the enemy within

Dont know how things work or are in Britain but guess everywhere is the same with politicians, doubt they will,i am yet to hear any politician to suffer due their opinion force for their own gain, its always the common folk on the end.

Not sure if you're being serious...

A lot of leave campaigners will argue with you that they're not the racist bigots voting to leave and have other reasons, but the cold hard facts that no, they may not be, but they are standing side by side with some of the most disgusting racists this country has seen.

If the people who voted purely due to their racism didn't vote, then the remain campaign would have had a massive victory, it's the racist that have pushed the leave campaign over the line.

Like it or not.

I'm so frustrated and angry at how we'll be perceived now from the outside looking in. Just like you said you're astonished how we've done this. My country has done this. This is Britain's decision, to tear up our values and revert to being an insular and inward looking island. I'm ashamed.

Farage already backtracking on his financial promises and N.I. politicians saying "yes, there will be some pain."

Good stuff lads. I'm sure you lot will truly feel the brunt of it. I'm sure the working class will really benefit from this.

The disconnect between yourself and England couldn't be more obvious. Although it's a bitter pill to swallow, I hope Scottish people quickly develop a positive mindset and make the necessary steps to distance themselves from England. They've forced it onto you, so just embrace it and make the situation a good one.
