Looking forward to this being concluded. We've lacked presence in midfield for so long it's unbelievable. Everyone suggesting players like koke and verrati is missing the point that none of them solve that problem.

So you would actually prefer a less talented player just in order to save money? Money that we can afford to spend anyway, and that has no bearing on you personally? I really fail to understand this mentality I really do.

It's like a billionaire buying an Audi instead of a Ferrari just to save a few pounds, because, well, an Audi still gets you from a to b right?
Except we've been shopping for Audi's for years now and lately it hasn't been getting us anywhere. Time to buy a Ferrari to go with the new driver.

Not really. As I said, I don't really rate Pogba that much and I don't see much difference between the three players.

Andre Gomes does not deserve to be in the conversation. Compare Koke and Pogba, sure, but Gomes is easily a level below both.

Well you just said a second ago you thought they were less talented.

in any case, putting Gomes and Pogba in the same bracket is beyond a minority view. I'm sure you'll change your mind when/if he finally does sign.

Are people really debating the caliber of a player by the languages that he can speak?

I thought it was bad enough when somebody was discussing how 'cool' Pogba is due to the music he listens to...

I guess after this long, people can start to go a bit bonkers!

Not excited either, overrated and overpriced, hope he works out much better than our recent big money signings if he comes.

Vidal Zidane wanted to leave... just like Ronaldo, Beckham wanted to leave.

Which forums have you been to? Do you read Italian?
I don't think Beckham actually did want to leave, it was more Ferguson pushed him out.

Is it the fee or the ability of the fotballer that some find conserning, or perhaps a good mixture of both?

It clear that the fee representents a complete "package", a quality player with 3-years left on his contract, a club desperate (?) to keep him and therefore not willing to sell, the future/current frontman for adidas and with that his marketing potential. And don't forget the fact that he is considered a home-grown player.

A deal of this size in the current state of the football should not be judged purely based on the footballing side of the player. I understand 100% that Manchester United and especially Woodward who has been hunting a really marquee signing since his appointment are willing to pay at the rumored price. It might be considered ludicrous, however that's the transfer market per 16/17. If you compare it to the situation currently in the NBA it might not seem to mad after all.

Mourinho is a world class manager. I trust his ability and knowledge. I know he is known to spend at lot of money, but as far I know he have never spend this much money on a player. Not even close. And judging by the rumours that he was keen on signing his to Chelsea strengthens my belief that Pogba is the right player for us to sign.

If United were to sign Pogba I hope they fax a big fat picture of this lovely man to Real, so they can shove it right up their arse. And the complete meltdown on Twitter from the scousers and everyone else spamming the words "overrated, inconsistent, and overplayed". I don't know about you but my colleagues and friends all had Pogba in their Euro Fantasy teams and has over the years praised him as a quality player with immense potential.

I can't find the post, but I remember a post explaining why you can't compare the fee to the signing of Kanté. (A juve fan) and I found he reasoning very well-thought and true.

Therefore I hope we sign Pogba, and also because I can't handle another transfer saga ending with our club as the losing part.

This looks like it'll happen. Really don't want him and I've previously said that I think he's overrated so let's hope that Mourinho's instinct on him is right.

It'll be a big statement signing though.
I thought the same back in the day about Ferdinand, didn't rate him as world class and thought we were overpaying by at least twice what he was worth.

But we were buying potential, he was 23 as well and in hindsight the £30m fee was a bargain. If this one happens hopefully it works our similarly.

No one is comparing anyone as players, just the prices.
Why?

Surely it would be more prudent as a football fan to compare football ability?

Why does anyone care about how much a club pays for a player? Is not your money (particularly as a Chelsea fan).

Why do people care? If a player is the right player for your team you pay what it takes to get them. As with any purchase, the value of a player is subjective to the one buying him. Pogba or kante or messi or ronaldo are worth whatever someone pays for them.

Added to that, it's entirely a point of hindsight whether or not that value is correct. You cannot know whether (as a buyer) that value was accurate until you look at what that person won, how much money he brought in and how much he was sold for.

Please, can everyone stop banging on about how much a player is bought for, its tiresome and there can never be a right answer.

Mediaset are reporting Juventus board think that Madrid will make a counter offer for Pogba.I guess the deal is evenly poised.
Nah, they've had their chance. Distanced themselves many times and IMO if they were serious they would have bid by now.

Interesting how we're not hearing about a contract extention? Maybe not offered or rejected? Hopefully we hear more today - you'd think Juve would say something or maybe they'll be too busy :)

The quoted sums for Pogba is even more laughable now. Really hope we don't get him for such prices.

I haven't seen the paperwork so not strictly a fact :D, but several news sources have said that.
Thanks. That puts at ease a key concern I had over the high fees we were paying the agent. But if he has part ownership of the player himself , then we have little choice in this particular matter.

I can't see the logic in moaning about the fee.

If we refuse him at that price and he moves to Madrid for a massive sum and goes on to be a top class player, are people expecting to feel comforted by "well he wasn't worth the stated money and I'm glad we still have it in the bank".

It's sport, entertainment and money that you won't benefit from in any other way shape or form if we don't spend it.

It's still a matter of relations. We could also afford paying 300M £ for him, would you still like that? Or 500?

It's still not my money and Glazers still wouldn't be broke. Remember when we used to laugh at Chelsea and City for spending crazy money?

Whatever price we pay, it also sets another example for future fees.
I like Pogba and I would love to have him back, but laughing at people who think 125 is a risky price?

There's no one else remotely available of his quality. People saying things like we should just get Koke for 70m, Koke isn't for sale and doesn't want to leave.

So we are basically choosing between keeping the money in the bank (or the glazers pockets) or buying a much lesser player and keeping the change.

Verrati is still the one I'd choose in a heartbeat out of the three though. I want Pogba for sentimental reasons but there are so few quality deep lying midfielders now, whereas I think there's more choice of good #10s or box-to-box midfielders (depending how we intend to use Pogba).

While Pogba would improve our midfield, it wouldn't kill me to see him to go Madrid (especially if they're paying Galactico wages and transfer fee for him). They have a history of wanting shiny things at any cost, and at that sort of price there'd be huge pressure for him to match or exceed the performances of Ronaldo / Bale otherwise it'll be somewhat destabilising for them. That being said, it would also be quite nice if for once we could buy one of the top players without being gazumped.

You think Pogba is available? He's happy at Juve and Juve don't want to sell. We are moving heaven and earth to try and make this deal work - if we threw £100m at Koke/Kroos/Saul the clubs would also listen.
