We always have the knives ready for Pep and Klopp. Just like scousers, berties and Barca supporters have for Mourinho.

With as many big characters in the PL managing this would always be the case, and it makes the rivalries much better IMO.

This is spot on. United forced Liverpool back into their own half not just for most of the first half but a bit of the second half too. The game changed a little as it closed but it's wilfully stupid to focus on the small closing 15/20 mins especially after United were forced into an unplanned unchange.

Still seems to be some sand in vaginas amongst the resident scousers at how comfortable we had it, and Klopp doesn't seem to be over it either (though he may have just been walking into a journalist trap for a headline).
Well said.

I know it's all part of the game. Somehow I never get as caught up in it but if it's part of what some fans enjoy, well okay then, let the banter continue, we seem to have the right managers in place right now to keep fueling the flames. :D

On paper a nice run of fixtures but we have struggled against most of those teams recently. For instance we've won once against Pulis teams in the last five - Saturday is a huge game for us.

A trip to Palace rarely goes well for us either. None of the away games on that list are easy actually. Our record at Middlesbrough is relatively poor I think?

Considering we had more possession and played nearly twice as many passes as you, its not surprising that we played 10 more longer passes.

According to the same source quoted earlier our total passes was 627 with 11% of those classed as long passes - your total passes was 342 with 17% of those going long.
And 17 (to 11) is such a huge difference? 17% itself is for sure not enough to say long ball team. As I said, it wasnt a clever comment to make in the first place

No it's not. Hull properly parked the bus against you, same with Burnley.

What we did is came at you in your faces and spent the majority of the first half on YOUR side of the pitch.

You guys felt the pressure and couldn't string 2 passes together without losing the ball to one of us or just out of play.

As the game progressed you lots finally started managing some decent passing and moving out of your own half. Second half we decided to let you have the ball and dropped the high pressing game we had going in the first half which is understandable because we surely couldn't keep it up, we don't play that way.

However despite letting you guys have the ball we were still mostly in control and were hardly threatened and it seemed easier to play that way since you guys were pretty toothless going forward anyways.

A team that park the bus get put under heavy pressure and have to dish countless last takle and outstanding saves. Something that happened to Hull, Burnley and will happen to West Brom. You guys barely made 2 shots on target against us with one being a long shot from distance.

We were as comfortable as it get at Anfield, hardly threatened and in control. Teams that park the bus don't walk away from game feeling hardly threatened.
Ok

I think the point is, it's a pointless point of reference to analyse the match through the number of long balls played. Possession was so lob-sided that it's a bit redundant to start giving undue attention to long balls.

Wasnt possession 57 to 43?

The Scousers must love him he manages to rile up our fans like that with a remark like that.
The actual exchange:

Asked whether United’s approach was good preparation for Albion, Klopp said: “Yes, partly. We all know we have had to watch out for a few problems that we had last season, although we are not suffering from the same amount.

“We are a football-playing side and Manchester United were more physical and stronger than we were with a lot of tall players. We did it well and I cannot remember there was a big advantage in this game out of these situations.

“We need to be ready again for situations like this [on Saturday]. You can always use a few things from the last game but on the other hand it will be different again. Defending these balls was important, very important in the United game and will be important in the next game. Playing football would have been important in the Man United game too and will be very important in the West Brom game. There is a lot of work to do.”

The Liverpool manager, however, refused to be drawn on his United counterpart’s barbed comments regarding the performance. “I am not interested in it,” Klopp said. “I thought the game was over, so why should I talk about it still? I don’t care what anybody says after the game.

“I know the game already and I know what I have to learn from it. You want to write what you saw and if it is the same and what other people say, I don’t know if that is good or bad, but use it or leave it.

“Don’t bother me with things like that. I am not a per-cent interested. You cannot win the game after the game, which I have learnt early on in my career. We have a point and it felt positive because it was one more point than before the game. It was a good experience for us, we were not perfect, that is all.”

They are great comments, but mostly because he doesn't want to get into this kind of narrative - the media nonetheless spun a headline out of the phrasing of their own questions. pathetic.

To be fair though, he does discuss the game, has a couple of cheeky comments about being a footballing side compared to a physical side and then when asked about Mourinho's comments says "I thought the game was over, I don't want to talk about the game". He was happy enough discussing it just before hand.

Such a shame after a bright start last season. I think I'd prefer him as another left back option rather than another CB one. Maybe we'll see him against Spurs midweek.

I am not sure that was a dig really. He's commented on our lack of height as a weakness before. Don't think it is coincidental that of the new signings, Karius, Matip, Klavan and Grujic are all 6ft2+.

This was huge for me before last Monday but its not so huge now. I was fully expecting Utd to at least be level on points with us by now. And with us dropping points at WBA even a draw for Utd against Chelsea would put them ahead. (Why am I so obsessed? Because I think us and Utd are fighting for one of the two crucial CL spots regardless how early in the season it is).

Now that we have a two point cushion I'll be disappointed but not suicidal if we drop 2 points against WBA. The games after that I would hope we have a semi-decent run.

Three point cushion. And a better goal difference. Hopefully more after the weekend. Relax!

I'm not worried about this at all. They generally do well against the big teams. These are exactly the kind of fixtures which they tend to struggle at.

Famous last words before we lose 1-0 and they beat Chelsea. :annoyed:
You are so fantastically negative. Get a fecking grip, :D.

Obvious 3-0 minimum thrashing of the Pulis XI, opticians appointment already booked for Monday afternoon. Spares are already at Melwood in prep for the Mon morning debrief , I would think.

13/14 traumatised me so much that I never seem to be optimistic about any Liverpool game any more, always expecting the worst.

Pulis has been a constant thorn in our side as well.

You lots have really become arrogant. The last thrashing you did was against 10 men Hull (who then got spanked 6-1 by Bournemouth anyways). You were just a few minutes away from drawing 1-1 against Swansea and your latest game was a goalless draw.

This mindset your set of fans and media have about you lots trashing everyone is quite ridiculous. I remember the pre match scorelines against Swansea from pundits and such, they were all thrashing.

Ha Ha - brilliant.

His comments are total nonsense anyway - As far as what the media and pundits are saying, so what?
Who cares what scores they predict - it's quite childish to throw an "arrogant" tag at us also, I don't see any evidence of that.

The pre-match pundit thoughts before the Swansea match, who cares?
We won whether 5-0, 4-0 or 2-1 - same for Hull, I don't give a feck if they had a player sent off, by the way United needed a last minute winner to beat them....

Weird comments.

And yet 'history repeats itself' is a popular saying.
And neither are 100% correct. I bet Liverpool supporters were saying "They always feck up in those sort of games anyway, which is why it's getting on for 26 years without United winning the title" back in 1993 ;)

This is the thing is dislike about Klopp, he emphasis that his team play football the 'right way' and criticises teams who play a more conservative/defensive approach.

This coming from the same man who used to put Steven Caulker up front when he was behind in games and pump long balls up to him.

Which criticism do you refer to?

I think he played Caulker up front as emergency striker coming on late each time, when I think the options were limited due to injuries.

According to Glen Hoddle we need to show that we can play this kind of football against the likes of Arsenal and Chelsea....not like we've beat them both away from home already. The standard of punditry in general is dog shit.

Very good offensively, but still suspect in defence, and defence wins you leagues. If they can sort that out, then who knows. But that year they imploded they were excellent in attack and terrible in defence. It's a problem if you have to score three goals every game to win, because it won't always happen. Same can be said of City.

Hard to judge this early, but I think they'll be up there (I do think they'll fall short, though).
