Gueye was great today. Contained Pogba magnificently, didn't make a meal out of that horrific tackle from Rojo, and forced a (correct) penalty from a clumsy Fellaini.

Best player behind Kante for that kind of role, in the league. To be honest, I don't actually think that Kante is that much better than him really. Not really what we are missing at the moment, though.

Kante is an underrated passer imo. Haven't seen enough of this guy to say whether he had that in his locker.

Gueye is the best tackler in the league statistically but his passing isn't as good as Kante. Pogba falls just behind Kante in the passing stakes actually: Pogba has attempted 776 passes with a passing accuracy of 85%, whereas Kante has attempted 791 passes with a passing accuracy of 89%. Not much difference there and funny considering most say Pogba has been utter shite and Kante has apparently been amazing. I personally think Kante is massively overrated but that's another discussion.
The type of passes Kante plays are very different to what pogba so those stats aren't really very meaningful. Kante is very good at initiating play once he gets the ball though and executes quick crisp passes. That said, he's nowhere close to pogba in terms of passing ability. Defensively, he's a beast though and from the limited times I've seen Gueye, he has looked good defensively but isn't very good at initiating the play and just relies on his midfield partner to do that. Still, haven't watched enough to have a conclusive opinion really.
They weren't far apart in terms of Tackles Won: Kante 125 / Gueye 108 - Interceptions: 156 / Gueye 140, for the 2015/16 season. Considering one played for the PL Champions and the other for a useless relegated Villa, it's good going for Gueye. I'm not sure what his (Gueye) overall passing is like, but it's not something that has stood out, for me. Kante is good at releasing the ball early, but his actual passing ability isn't anything special.
Looked superb yesterday, cant beleive anyone can argue about the penalty decision if honest, again comes down to stupid subs from Jose. Fellaini a bombscare trying to defend.

He was best player on the pitch yesterday by a country mile, completely shut down Pogba and smart play at the death to win the penalty. I don't think he is better than Kante, Kante is much better on the ball and better reader of the game too while Gueye is slightly better at tackling.

Agreed. Hence why I think his passing is wildly overrated. He can knock it about short but his actual passing ability is nothing special.
