Klopp is a one trick pony.

He will moan about not having the resources the likes of Chelsea and Man Utd have when Liverpool finish 6th this season - like Liverpool supporters always do.

"Rafa is a boss manager, la. He didn't get any money to spend though."

Etc

Not seen anything about extra training on the Liverpool forums I frequent. Dec to Jan was always going to be a killer period for us regardless of fitness or over training. We knew this was coming and we just need to ride it out until Feb.

I'm not worried about burning out just yet as our key players (and it's more than 2 or 3) have had large periods of rest due to injuries as mentioned.
Obviously no other team suffers from a deluge of fixtures over this period. Just Liverpool....

I think the point is that our squad depth is considerably weaker than the other sides around us. One or two injuries has had a greater impact on how we play compared to a team like United for example. Your replacements for Bailly are better than our replacements for Matip. Take Mkhitaryan out and you've got someone like Mata to come in.

We aren't well equipped to deal with absences because Klopp made the decision to trim the squad, due to the lack of European football this year.

We won't know if that was the right decision until the end of the season.

Other teams have it tough too. For example Utd haven't caught us up as much as they should have by now. But this is about Liverpool and what I / we expected of them only at this point.

Gerrard has never struck me as someone cut out for management. Great player doesn't always equal great manager.

Me too.

I didnt think he was interested in managing. Hes been a bit on and off on the idea. Now its got the point where I just dont think hes cut out for it.
Carra on the other hand has always said he wanted to do managing, even did a few of his badges years ago.

No idea what to make of Gerrard as a coach. A relatively useful comparison might be Dalglish. He wasn't regarded as being particularly eloquent or exciting in interviews nor was he necessarily seen as a front runner for management in 1985. Some believed Phil Neal was the obvious pick. Dalglish went on to great things, rebuilding an ageing side.

Will Gerrard follow suit? Who knows. Writing him off is as secure as saying he'll be good.

Exactly, it's 50/50.

I think you've got to give him a few seasons though.

There's no point giving him the job and then throwing the towel in at the first rough patch. A new manager like Gerrard will need at least 2 seasons to make the team his own after taking over from Klopp.

Liverpool fans find themselves in a situation that I was worried we'd be in with Giggs. Thankfully we've avoided it and he decided to leave. It'll be interesting to see how Gerrard fares when he inevitably replaces Klopp in a few years.

Nor was he thought to be that racist but he showed them...

Gerrard's legacy and what he will always be remembered for is that slip. Nothing he does in management will change that.

I'm not surprised they are a little tired, but it doesn't seem to be affecting their pressing much, they had incredible kms run stats over the holiday period despite 3 games in 143 hrs.

Also including 2 games where we played the kids and reserves (not one 1st teamer starting) against Plymouth, in those stats is a little disingenuous to say the least. When people say 'this defence' I wish they would clarify their comment or do you mean out 1st choice defence ? The issue is that we have a very good defence when at full strength (Matip's record of 9 goals conceded in 11 games proof enough, and we kept United to one offside goal over two matches) but too often injuries have hurt us and when we aren't at full strength the replacements are simply not good enough.

We are already in a dogfight for Top 4, along with 4 other teams, and have been for most of the season so far.
Talk about excuses

I see you put a lot of thought into that post .. not.

It was tough for us because of the teams we have to play through to the end of this month (City, United, Chelsea, Southampton x2 etc.) and we also had to play 3 teams within 143 hrs over the New Year, only Southampton had a few hrs less, whilst Chelsea had nearly double that amount of time. So yes, there are mitigating circumstances for a drop in form and some of us had already forecast that .... I wonder if we will even still be in the Top 4 come the end of March, though I then expect us to pick up strongly and make the Top 4 somewhat comfortably in the end.

So if he becomes a serial league winner and goes on to win back to back World Cups it'd all just be a footnote?

That's a fair point. As a knight of the realm once said: "stand by your new manager". I guess Gerrard could be the next "chosen one" and possibly supersede the last one on these shores.

Let's face it, that's not going to happen.
Nor is his overriding legacy that slip. It's possibly the most enjoyable moment for opposition fans but he's an all time great of the game. By virtue of the slip being a 'thing' you're also acknowledging the man and the legend who did it. It wouldn't be quite the 'thing' had it been Jon Flanagan.

So, essentially what you're saying is...

Good shout.

Or, for instance, Graeme Souness.

Not really seeing as Souness arrived with a strong track record and was seen as made for management. Dalglish, like Gerrard, was untried and wasn't necessarily regarded as a student of the game so his success took many by surprise. Gerrard may not become any good, but the perception of him is possibly unfair. The only way of knowing is if he actually gets a big job. It's then sink or swim or get eaten alive!

Not the Phil Neal who was featured on the Graham Taylor England documentary?

I just can't begin to imagine how he didn't get the job?
