Steady performance, better going forward than Blind or Darmian but not as good defensively or in use of the ball but by no means the sh*te performance many are calling.

Poor or average first half and good second half. Surprised he played 120 mins and looked fit.

It's time to give him a run in the team and stop dropping him all the time. He clearly has the talent but not the confidence. I suppose if Jose has seen problems of commitment then that's an issue but I say just play him every game.

He was quite good today. Had a nervous first 15 minutes but then settled nicely. His first touches in the attacking third were fantastic.

Improved as the game went on. Very happy with his display overall.

Some of the criticism of him is very harsh for a young player who has hardly played this season, he was partly at fault on the goal but he kept going and made some good defensive contributions in the second half and was a threat in attack on several occassions, plus he played 120 minutes and seemed to still have plenty in the tank.

He did a lot of running tonight, played for entire 2 hours, great offensive contribution, shaky first half defense wise, much better in 2nd half. Overall solid performance from him. Looking forward to see him improving further.

He was excellent in the second half, considering he's barely played this season it was fantastic to see him complete 120 minutes with such a performance.

I think some of the positioning criticisms are harsh, particularly when you see Valencia getting lauded on the right. I think both of them, tend to make similar positional errors, though it's not really much of a problem because of their pace.

His defensive work was over all the place at time. He did show glimpse of this talent though, especially the attacking side of the game. Long way to go, but hopefully he really realized and keeps working on it.

Extremely silly at the start of the goal though by makking a non event into a situation.

He got better as the game went on, as you would expect.

This is why I think some of the criticism are harsh. To be thrown into a game, taken out for a few then to play again, is not as easy as people think especially if you want rhythm to play with those around you. Blind coming on for Rojo surely would not have helped him either.

Thought he was better going forward than defensively overall, but until he gets a run of games its hard to just judge in singular games here and there.

Off pace, rusty is different than fecking up basic of positioning. You can make sloppy pass, not getting on with team rhythm, not winning ball back enough, not dominating the attacker... understandable. Not aware of your defensive line.

That can easily happen though cos mentally youre not comfortable and off-pace trying to compensate for something else (whether its coming back from injury, change of players, lack of fitness, lack of game time).
Once you get more rhythm you get more comfortable with it, which is what we saw after their goal.

Since injury or in general? If you mean the latter then I don't agree.
Well they are one and the same thing. 'Since the injury' is the player we have. There is no use saying 'if he didn't get injured' about a player who did. The player he is, is a poor one. He's been fit for an entire season now.

Got some praise from Jose, as well. Was supposed to come off before Zlatan's injury and played with cramps in the ET.

I get the impression he's been miles off what Mou thinks constitutes being 'fit'

Not that Mou is a perv or anything, I mean physical fitness...

As I said in Blind thread I think it comes with the change to midfield 3 with more protection from midfield. There is more pressure on their passers.

Shaw Blind Carrick all the supposed off pace physically player suddenly improved significantly after Fellaini sub.

The bad positioning, bad decision making of individually player is clearly on them (basic positioning stuff)

Thought he was OK+ today. Good going forward, not so much when defending.
Impressive that he lasted the entire 120 minutes, and that he managed to push forward till the end.

If Rojo's injury is as bad as we fear, and Blind/Darmian will be pushed into the central defence, Shaw will most likely get more opportunities to play for his future in United, than he would have otherwise.
Hope he can get a few games back-to-back to prove to Mou that he's worth keeping.

Didn't realise he was carrying a knock in the second half because he looked gassed. Thought he was poor tonight and I've been one of his biggest supporters. Got forward well but was poor defensively, consistently out of position as has been mentioned.

That's good. Kind of attitude Mourinho likes.
It's so apparent that Mou is trying to transform the players into players that will fo anything for him, and for the win and that will take the extra mile. It might be frustrating at the beginning when they get benched and drop form, but we will reap the rewards I think. Bar Martial I think, he has everyone where he wants them to be mentally at the moment, everyone works incredibly hard.

Problem with that approach is that it tends to end badly.

True. I don't think either Shaw or Martial will be here next season but mentally, he'll be happy with Shaw and can see him get a few more opportunities before the end of the season.

I'm lazy when on the phone, sorry. Here it is.

Great to hear . Shaw finally understands what Jose wants from him and other players and applying it. Jose would really loves this from him.

He wants his players to always be men on the field and our players weren't this before he arrived . They used to lose and say excuses for their losses, to miss a game for the slightest knock and other things that shouldn't be the attributes of a player playing for the top club.

Jose will change the mentality of these players and the one who won't respond will be thrown out of the window. Shaw understands this , so is Rashford and before them Mikhi. Time for Martial and other teammates to understand this if they want to survive.
