I thought them shipping £50-60m on him would be hilarious, but this has topped that!

When Liverpool apologise for something, you know they've done something majorly wrong
Some people saying that we HAD taped up the player before hand, so to avoid investigation we just ended interest and apologized.

There's something very Trumpian about Liverpool and their fanbase.

Self-aggrandising, a complete lack of self-awareness and an inability to truly acknowledge their own incompetence.
All the while everyone on the outside laughs and ridicules them.

The most Liverpool thing that's ever happened. They had an open goal, but instead of tapping it into the next, they've managed to anally impale themselves on the corner flag, all the while turning their back on the crowd and pointing to the name on their shirt.

The saltiness of those tears are fantastic.
Some of us have been saying for a while we don't want him at the quoted price, so it's not like it's a sudden turn-around because of the mess we've made of it.

You Probably haven't seen my posts on the transfer prior to this. Always said £60million was stupid money.

Would of been classic Liverpool to pay over and above the odds for someone

Taping him up is getting pretty sinister mate.
Everyone taps players up though.

This is a crazy eyed flailing German whose bizarre previously Brenton Rodgers porcelain whitened, yet now coffee stained, teeth move about in his mouth like the most agile Irish river dancer, as if unconnected to his jaw, we're talking about here. Taping up is the most mild of S&M foreplay in his repertoire of managerial and Bavarian dungeon master skills. Bloody lucky this transfer didn't to get to his metal spiked bikini stage. Although, maybe. Those text messages, Julian Assange, we must have them. Hillary Clinton's boring emails ain't nothing!

It's funny the difference a day makes.
Yesterday it looked like they were wrapping up what many believe is a quality centre back, while we were all over the shop getting nowhere with anyone.

Now he's off, and Morata is looking more likely.

Hopefully it doesn't all twist backwards tomorrow

Amazing

I'd love to know more details, Southampton must completely have them by the balls for them to come out and first publicly apologise and then pull out of any deal.

Being serious though they've probably dodged a bullet, no fecking way he's worth anywhere near £60m.

Oh let's just soak this one in, I feel like I'm sipping a crap, overpriced Spanish beer in Cafe Del Mar staring at the ocean as beautiful ladies walk past, mate.

With the greatest of respect I am a Litigation Partner in a Top 100 law firm and it is civil law arising from a regulatory breach. My terminology is not 'bollocks' as you seek to aptly put it. I shall assume you are equally as disappointed as me hence venting your frustration.

They cant have nice things
We won't be going back in for him, regardless of whether or not he hands a transfer request in. Southampton have our bollocks on this one.

We spoke to the player before making a bid, which breaks the rules. Now this is normally ok, clubs understand this shit happens. The problem is the club leaking this information to the media, and making Southampton look a bunch of mugs. This also turned VVD's head, meaning no bidding war between ourselves & others, meaning Southampton also stood to miss out on money.

So Southampton likely told us we're paying 70 million for him. 50 for the player and 20 for taking the piss. We told them to feck off. So they reported us for tapping up the player. We only have ourselves to blame. This isn't just on FSG, this is everyone. Jurgen included.

We've ended our interest entirely because the concequences of not doing so will be fecking dire. Transfer bans, fines, the lot. They have us bollock naked with our pants around our ankles. He'll go to City or Chelsea. We can't have nice things.

That's my take. I could be talking utter shit.

If Liverpool were serious about the money and had an agreement with the player, this is surely a big loss for them. Virgil van Dijk is a very good defender, obviously one of the best in the league. He is very good at reading the game, he is a communicator on the pitch and he can pass a ball. A much better player than John Stones, as he reads the game much better and brings a lot of calmness to the others - a very important factor for a defender in my opinion. A bit like Rio Ferdinand with his defending style, as well as technique to get out of tricky situations at times.

Hard to judge a defender in a weaker team, but I would have been pissed if he joined Liverpool. Firstly because he is tons better than the erratic Lovren and the overrated and lanky Matip, also because he would have made their link-up play better when they are possessing the ball. Would like him at United, think him and Bailly would be solid and very complimentary to each other. He probably lacks a bit of aggression compared to Rojo, but all in all I think he is a better defender. I love Rojo - but there could be place for VVD as well. This is a team going for the league and the Champions League next year, all of these players can play different positions as well.

The first official interest we show is to say sorry for tapping him up.
Has anyone compared this situation to pulling a girl yet? That's all this thread is missing.
This is like when you're in seeing some chick but her boyfriend has found the texts, battered you and made you apologise on Facebook so everyone can see what a c*nt you are.
