I'm not sure if Mou doesn't rate Martial or he was protecting him from wilting under the supposed pressure of this match.

Because as good as I think Martial is he is in equal measure a pu**y.
You really think he can't handle pressure after watching his first season here?

And the process of destroying his confidence has already started.

I mean you're Martial, get yourself a good pre season then get completely ignored. What goes through your mind after that?
I wonder how I became Martial!

Like when he stepped up and scored the late winner in an FA Cup semi? Or when he scored 2 away at Upton Park to try and drag us into the CL? There are other examples of him being the only one carrying the fight for us when chips are down. He's not a wimp, but his coach is breaking his confidence.

Let me guess he's finished at the club and will be sold as he didn't come off the bench?

Shut the feck up Caf idiots.

We only have so many subs. Rashford came on, did well and got us back into the game. Still a big part for Martial to play so give the cry baby antics a rest.

The season begins Sunday.

As long as I don't see his ass at another PL club. That would make me super mad, and compound the stupidity of the way Mourinho is treating the lad. What does he have against creative players? I really bloody miss SAF - can you imagine how Martial would perform with him in charge? Hell the kid was performing in LVG's system. That's how bad Mourinho is being with him. Utterly awful cowardly management from Jose.

As a fan I feel so frustrated to see how his minutes are being managed, can't imagine how he must be feeling.

His quality is stupidly obvious like de Bruyne for example, yet Mourinho doesn't fancy him. He'll probably leave next summer, kill it wherever he goes and then join one of our rivals 2 years later for mega money.

First game of the season (not even league game) and people are crying as if season has ended and Martial never got chance

Before the match, the spectacular assist he provided against Madrid in preseason was put on replay on social media (Instagram) by the United accounts and I was already looking forward to a good display from him but sadly he wasn't even given a chance by the coach. I'm not claiming we would've won had he played, but i was so disappointed not to see him come on after expecting a lot.

He should leave for his own sake. Jose clearly doesn't rate him it's not like Jose is anything special with developing young attacking players.

This is BS. It's simply a case of Mourinho doing his thing.
I sure hope so. But I can't tell. I saw a player whose personal life seemed to weigh him down, rumors of unhappiness over a kit number change, whose best games last season were against nonleague opponents. Seeing his ex wumming him (immature she may be) signaled something - he has a mental hurdle to jump.

If he doesn't start this weekend then I can see him going. After an impressive pre season he should've made an appearance tonight off the bench at least

I still remember that he was the key reason we broke our spell of draws at home to Middlesbrough showing a lot of fight and class and was dropped the next game. It's baffling.

Edit - I don't think it was a spell of draws he broke - it was failing to capitalise on our rivals dropping points, wasn't it?

All I'm hoping for is that a non PL club comes in for him. Mourinho is a right ass mismanaging the lad like this. Can't believe the club is allowing him to get away with this nonsense. Can you imagine Jose gets rid of the kid and then he himself gets sacked? I'll never forgive him.

Anyway no use worrying about it. Martial just needs to stay cool and keep his head down and we'll see what happens.
Keeping his cool and heads down hasn't done any good to him. All it earned him is regressed after coming from a hot season.

A player who came from his debut season with us possessing his talent underby normal circumstances with a manager who has faith in him would have improve last season even further and this year he should have been already properly established as a top player, playing for his club and country.

Mourinho mismanaged his last season, destroyed his confidence by never rewarding him and publicly criticizing him. This year things are looking the same so far.

All this will lead to is people lying though their teeth how Martial failed when given his chance while trying to absolve Mourinho of any blame, same Mourinho the serial mismanager of young talents.

Indeed. We have three. The issue people had was Mourinho opting not to use the third sub at all instead of putting Mata or Martial on.

One of the few negatives about Mourinho at Utd is how he doesn't seem to be able to get the best out of Martial.
Maybe he should start by playing him a bit more from time to time.

Still hasn't gotten a proper run of consecutive matches aside from the beginning of 2016/2017. Pre-season or otherwise.

He has improved since then.

Him leaving will be a theme this whole year again I see.

Although he should have had a chance tonight.

I'm a big Martial fan tbh, but I really do believe Mourinho's reluctance to show any faith in him is a huge mistake. The boy is immensely talented. Even last season, which was poor-to-mediocre by his standards, he showed glimpses of talent superior to some of the players ahead of him in the pecking order. I fear that one day we're all going to regret Jose playing Jesse Lingard over Martial.

Come on. There was no reason for Jose not to even give the lad 10 minutes, no excuse whatsoever as we're losing. You just cannot defend that.

This lad must be really feeling some mad love for this club since he's choosing to stay despite being 3RD option behind Rashford and Lingard.

That's the way it goes. We looked like scoring and the balance seemed right. Perhaps he didn't want to change that?

Not sure it's a big talking point. It's a team game.

Why the feck do we not use an exceptional talent like Martial in a game like this that was crying out for him? If I was him I'd seriously be thinking about leaving if his role won't change compared to last season.
I'd be delighted for him if he left. He will become very good elsewhere.

I don't rate him particularly highly but within this United squad he's a player we have to be looking to get something from because if not him, who? What's the plan Jose? Just what is he seeing from those starting ahead of him that I'm missing?

Should have played tonight, especially after what he did to Carvajal a few weeks ago.

Martial has the potential to be such a good player and certainly one of the best in Europe but to see it at our club we'll need a new manager. So annoying from Mourinho imagine actually choosing Lingard over Martial.

It's not about this match, it's the theme in general. And heck, it's not only about Martial. Mata was available too. Mikhi didn't provide that much apart from his through ball to Rashford. There was still time for José to bring in another attacking player.

We're chasing a goal. We have one substitute left to make. We have one of two options in Martial and Mata… he uses neither.

What a stupid thing to say.
As stupid as crying for a player just because he didn't play in a game?

Come on. There was no reason for Jose not to even give the lad 10 minutes, no excuse whatsoever as we're losing. You just cannot defend that.
He didn't play today, so what? This is just the start of the season. Still plenty of matches for him to play, Jose thought Rashford will do better job and sent him on. Could have used him as 3rd sub but not sure why people are moaning so much about it.

Keeping his head down if he wants to stay at United. If we continue with our inept attacking ways, Jose will be leaving before him.. so it might not be a bad idea to stay cool.

Agree that some people are falling for the Jose narrative that the lad is not taking his (very few) chances. They will see when a good coach gets a hold of Martial and actually shows us what he's truly capable of. I repeat again, a non PL team for the lad if Jose is allowed to continue fecking around with him. I couldn't bear seeing him tearing it up week after week in the PL.

Our wingers are very inconsistent. He will get game a lot of game time. Just needs to take his chances.

We do need a winger, but if not, then him and Rashford be nice to see.
