He is a useless player, plain and simple. Just because he shows passion doesn't mean he is roy keane. You need to play football. He cannot control 9the ball. But I don't blame him, jose is an idiot to play him.

I think if he did play then maybe try him as a wingback? He can press and show some energy on the wing.

What about keeping Martial. I am still baffled how Lingard was not subbed yet Martial was. It's like Mourinho has swore some oath to not play Martial and Rashford together no matter what the situation requires.
Martial was on thin ice with his constant fouls, even after his yellow. They could then easily targeting him.

But I agreed with you, Martial should've stayed. It's fecking depressing when you try to make sense of it.

He does find space quite often. Which Martial for instance didn't see much off.

The defending team just isn't worried about him, they back off and close down his passing lanes and he won't capitalize.
When he starts the idea is that he creates spaces for others, I believe it just makes the opponent more aware of marking other threats.

He just rarely creates anything to speak off, just another possession recycler.

I dont understand logic in playing him as a number ten, even more so against a team like Huddersfield.

Extremely poor, he's fast but lacks craft and looks more like a player you'd see in the Huddersfield side rather than a Manchester United one.

Best opposition defender. When he plays our attacking play is awful. And for his running around; he shuts other players off with that. He reminds me on one guy with whom i play 5 a side football every week. That guy doesn't know how to play but runs around and always is free so you must pass to him. Same thing with lingard. The worst player ever who played on regular basis for united. Ever.

Asks for the ball only to pass it back to where it came from or to the nearest player next to him, few times he tried to play an ambitious pass it found a blue shirt. You can't fix that if the ability simply isn't there, it was the same with Cleverley. You can't expect a lot from limited players, his only use is to inject some energy and work-rate.

Playing him as a #10 whose task is to link midfield with attack is on Mourinho.

I was pleasantly surprised with the directness of his passing and dribbling. Sadly, he just doesn't have the quality to make any use of the good positions he finds/gets himself in. Should've been subbed as he really isn't going to help us score any more than Martial and Mata however bad they were playing.

He has become disgracefully complacement this season since he has cemented his position as a first team player. Needs to be dropped to the u23s for a month to sort his attitude out. This whole bollocks of fancy handshakes with Pogba and acting like he’s the big man at United had taken its toll on his performances, definitely.

I don't like all this negativity towards him. He didn't hide out there. He made good runs. He gave everything.

Where did 'not hiding' and making these imaginary good runs get us though? Sorry you can't make excuses for him any longer. It's gone on for far too long.

His performances were never good enough though. They haven't declined or anything, he's simply never been good enough. He's as average as can be.

I'm not making excuses for him. He fecking tried to make the difficult choices. He tried to be direct and push us through. He gave everything. Today is not the day to have a go at him. We lost because of two pathetic mistakes.

Utterly ineffective. It’s like having a weak child with balance issues in midfield. He offers nothing.

Local lad blah blah blah... £100k a week, jog on.

Just because he puts effort in doesn't mean he should be immune from criticism. We are a poor side with him in it and people have the right to complain about that.

We wasn't poor because of him. We are missing something deeper in Pogba. Mata, Mkhi, Martial were worse. They didn't do anything.

Shouldn't start any league game unless we have an injury crisis in the forward line.

Sorry mate but if you don't think Lingard is a huge part of the creativity problem when he starts then you need to take the rose tinted glasses off. Those 3 were crap today and Mkhitaryan has been off form for a few months now. Lingard has never been ON form. So spot the difference...

Giving him that 100k contract is going to work as well for us as it did with Rooney.

They were worse, but they've had a lot better days than Lingard has as well, so they've more credit in the bank. I think he has to be upgraded coming summer. It's fine when we have a full squad and we're bringing him on for 20-30 minutes but he's not good enough when we have to rely on him.

I don't like being critical but this lad is very lucky to be on the money he is.

I have no preference for Lingard. The stick he is getting is uncalled for. It's pretty difficult forcing it against a team sitting so deep. Yeah, some of the things didn't come off but why are we slating him? The other three were fecking shit and worse than him.

This. I’d run my flabby tits off if I was playing for Utd... doesn’t mean I’m good enough.
Effort does not always equate outcome. Lingard is simply not good enough.

Diabolical. Though surprisingly, he wasn't even the worst player on the field.

Completely useless, he can't do anything bar running with the ball at his feet. Can't pass, can't dribble, can't shoot.

The Huddersfield game was a nightmare for the whole team, but I don't think Lingard should escape criticism when a number of other players are being hung out to dry on here. His inclusion in the starting eleven was enough to get me worried. All he has is speed and even then he can't do much with it. Fans go on about Juan Mata and his lack of physique - well how many players do you see Lingard hold off? He loses the ball so often and was fortunate to stay on for the second half yesterday in my view.

I'm fed up of this below-average player continuing to be one of the faces of Man Utd, whilst contributing so little on the pitch. Homegrown player or not, I believe we should be setting our standards higher than this, even for our bench warmers.

Lingard wouldn't even be a starter at the likes of West Ham.

That promising counter when he had 2 players on the left and on the right and he fluffed a simple pass summed up his game and him in general.

I agree. JM is no slouch and wouldn't play him if he didn't meet the standards or carry out instructions. Jesse Lingard helps out a lot in midfield and opens up passing lanes as well as being quick on the counter attack. This is a player rated by three big managers now. Sir Alex, LVG and Jose. Yet many arm chair generals here think he's useless. His effectiveness will quadruple when he gets stronger as he matures.
