Would that be a problem? If Dave would do that, we'd be extending his contract. Wouldn't have a problem with world class players wanting salary parity.
Exactly. It's better to pay top dollars to our world class players and to be world class players like martial than paying insane money to average players like fellaini /Young/Mkhi

If he wants an easy ride essentially.
I suppose you could look at it that way. He’s got 2-4 years left at the top (allowing for injuries etc) so if he wants a guaranteed PL medal the City is the way to go. If he wants to really earn it then maybe a move to United would be better.

Can someone tell me where the "Sanchez wants to play for Pep" bit has come from?

I cant find any source for it..
When he was linked to City last summer and I read it for the first time, I just assumed it was the standard bs line to justify a move to a premier league rival (and city were rivals last season, just 3 points ahead of Arsenal).

Now its being treated like some factual statement and is being reported like Sanchez has been desperate to play for Pep all his life and now that he has the chance, he is getting tempted my Money United.
I don’t think it’s really something as important as people make out. Pep didn’t turn Sanchez into the player he is today.

I could see the appeal in that he is a successful manager but so is José.

I think the more scary thing was reading this:

Admitting for the first time that Sanchez’s departure is inevitable, whether this month or in the summer, Wenger sounded more positive about his two other stars with six months left. He claimed he is increasingly optimistic of reaching a deal with Ozil, if they can agree a salary, and also wants to tie down the fit-again Jack Wilshere to the club.If Ozil and Wilshere can be secured then Wenger hopes that “the rebuild will be less deep”, and it will not be so hard to launch the club’s 2018-19 Premier League challenge, a job that Wenger is already relishing.
For months Wenger has been insisting that Sanchez is open to staying, or could be persuaded to, but on Friday morning he admitted for the first time that will not be happen. “It looks like Sanchez will not extend his contract,” Wenger admitted. Which means he will either be sold to Manchester City or perhaps Manchester United this month, or go for nothing in the summer.

This isn't really the type of deal I'm excited about. A player just leaving his prime, joining a club he doesn't really want to be at, in a situation where we have to pay significantly more wages than a club that will spend 50m on walker or 42m on mangala. Feels like more short termism. Would prefer by a million miles that we took those resources and started building the team for the longer run, signings like pogba and martial. I'm not really happy comparing this to Matic deal either... it is a bit more like di maria where psg couldn't get him
How do you know he does not want to come to united?
Stop believing all the media driven agenda,I have not seen one quote where he said he didn't want to join united and only wanted to play for pep.
He is a class player that would strengthen our team and make it better,is that not what we want as fans?

Why? From everything I have read Pogba and Lukaku are already on 250k+ & DeGea is on 200k+. Sanchez salary at City, if he signs, has been mentioned at 250k. I don't see why it will create an issue.
He's asking for £400k per week.

He knows absolutely nothing, I've been commenting on him quite a lot this week and it's all been negative (I don't have an axe to grind with him by the way) he's just a sit on the fence, click bait journalist.
He works for the MEN who desperately need to monetise their City/United content because they're, at the end of the day, a regional paper.

He also works, and has worked, at said regional paper for years which probably tells you what you need to know about his sources and credibility in the industry.

Where did you read that? Until yesterday most reports were that he has agreed to a salary of 250k/week at City along with a hefty signing bonus. The only variable was the bonus money based on if he joins now or in the summer.

They will sell him for sure if they get something like 30M. He's not worth of 30M only 6 months left his contract. How much team earn if they qualify to CL? Do they even get that 30M? Of course there is clauses with sponsors but i would say, even if Sanchez stays, they don't have more than 25-30% chance to get top4. In a long run it's better deal to take that 30M and let him go.

e. It's all about wages and City or United. He will move this january.

What’s going on in my head right now is that it makes more sense from a playing perspective to have Sanchez at United as at City he will be rotated and he doesn’t like that. He clearly thrives off being the main man. We would also offer a very good salary and the big thing for me is Mourinho wouldn’t have made the phenomenal comment for no reason...

I still can’t feel too excited though as (if we are being brutally honest) if Sanchez wants to move for silverware and footballing reasons then City is the better option.

So essentially Sanchez has to decide between:

United
Playing time
Wages

City
PL Medal (and currently highest chance of future medals)
Wages
Better football

So it really boils down to what kind or role Sanchez wants in his final peak years.
United would put him front and centre of every add campaign as (along with Pogba) the superstar of the team.

With United's global reach and fan base, he wouldn't just be a global footballer, but a global superstar too. He’d have endorsement deals coming out of his ears.

Then Di Marzio began all this madness when he said you came in and offered him more(btw, £310/365k a week with the signing bonus) and now he no longer has an agreement with city, but is close to having one with united

Don’t think it’s that much when you factor in that it’s not actually united who will be forking that out of pocket for him. I’m sure the deal will somehow involve his image rights and a cut of that. His rights are probably worth tons over in Chile. We’d probably end up paying him around £200k a week the rest being made up from his sponsorships rights. Plus, tell me there won’t be a billion people wearing “Alexis 7” on the back of their shirt next season.

Di Marzio reported those wages NET! Even if they were gross, if he achieved the full 30m bonus the effective wage would be about 400k a week, down to 325k a week if he only got the £15m bonus, over a 4 year contract, it could even be a 3 year contract! Either way it is fair to say that his wage aspirations are £400K+ per week. This is the reason Bayern and PSG pulled out of the running, that he rejected them because he wants to play for Pep is total BS IMO.

Nobody would ever say something like that in the press. He wants to win a title you would guess and has been agitating for a move to city for a long time to win a title. I'm not really taking much of that from the media, I don't even live in the uk

No surprise really. Wenger will never leave before a contract is finished.

That's one way to look at this. Another is to see this as one of the best players in the league, him leaving weakens Arsenal, were he to choose us over City it narrows the gap as opposed to expanding, we'd have one more world class player and more balance in the team, and we'd be nearer to where we want to be, signing major players and being seriously competitive against big teams.
why would we care about weakening arsenal, the top 4 race? He is leaving arsenal either way. I see the point about weakening city but if we pay him enormous wages and he starts to want to leave if it becomes clear we aren't going to win the title this time next year then we have blocked the transfer of a young hungry player. Just would prefer us to spend the money on someone new and exciting like dybala not just someone old hat to try get one over on city.

If Sanchez stays at Arsenal until the summer I think that a) that shows how we no longer have the pulling power and nous as a club to attract the top players in the World, and b) he'll end up at PSG because he really is all about money

Keep a clean shit tomorrow, United is my final bus
I remember checking the Teletext for Ronaldinho news. Aww what a time that was. I was like 12 at the time. Major disappointment when I saw a top story that he agreed to join Barca. I was nearly in tears.
 same. Used to watch Ronaldinho for PSG on Eurosport. I remember thinking after one game that we have to get him and I looked on Teletext an hour later and there it was, a story saying we want him. Think me and my brother literally danced around the living room. Him moving to Barca still hurts now, it would have meant the world to see him at Old Trafford playing for us.

The pain is still there now :(

Glad I wasn't the only one destroyed by that failed transfer saga.

That's not too bad, is it? A player of his quality in today's market would command a fee of £80m-£90m with 2 years remaining on his contract and £60m-£70m with a year left. Ross fecking Barkley went for £15m + £7.5m agent fees as reported. If we pay Arsenal a transfer fee of £25m-£30m plus a £15m-£20m signing bonus to Sanchez, that's shouldn't raise too many eyebrows. A £15.6m signing bonus spread over a 3 year contract + £250k/wk effectively makes it £350k/wk. He deserves that for the risk he has taken running down his contract. He could have had a career ending injury and lost on everything.

I've got a soft spot for arsenal. I reckon if you can swap Walcott and Sanchez for Malcom and Mikhtayran you've had a very good January.
I'd definitely take it to the bank right now. Whether we're weakened after losing both Alexis/Ozil and these being our only replacements is another matter ofcourse.

No pulling power? United have signed Pogba/Falcao/Di Maria/Martial/Lukaku/Zlatan in the last 3 years and would have sign Griezmann last summer if wasn't for Atletico's transfer ban.

Some of those signings failed, but on paper they was regarded as some of the best players in the world in their area of expertise.

I think this shows United can secure any player in the world, more so than Sir Alex's later years where we snooped through bargain baskets every window.

I think we will be paying him a £30m bouns. City only want to pay him £15m if he joins this month as he they will have to pay Arsenal something.

I'm sure that Mansour will find that extra £15m down the back of the sofa if that's what it's down to. Pretty sure he'll either go to City this month or in the summer.
