I mentioned in the Ozil thread earlier that we'll need to start providing journalists with average petrol consumption by weight of away match squad member, Carrington toilet paper consumption and individual contribution to treadmill belt wear and tear.
There's two angles to dissect this deal, the football angle and the bean counter angle.
The question any football fan should ask is, does Alexi Sanchez improve Man Utd? The answer is yes. Where and how much, that's to be seen, and I'm sure we will debate that at length if this deal materializes.
Couple of thoughts on the finances:
1) Wages are not usually factored when we talk about a player's cost. They should, but they're not part of the lexicon. We say VVD cost 75m, or Pogba cost 89m, or Zlatan was free, but they're not playing for free so why not include wages for those players also? Ideally you'd look at the cost and wages and other fees and amortise them over the length of the contract.
2) Then the amortized player's cost should be at a healthy ratio against turnover. As far as United are concerned, it has one of the lowest wage to turnover ratios in the league according to the Swiss Ramble http://bit.ly/2DJ6LQc
3) The 180m cost is over 4.5 years, and it does not factor the fee recouped for Mkhitaryan going the other way. Nor does it factor the savings on Mkhi's salary. Be it as that may, United annual turnover is 580m and growing, you could project that turnover over the next 4.5 years to be over 2.6Billion. So whatever the net Sanchez cost, it's a drop in the bucket. I'm pretty sure Glazers have competent bean counters and they know what they're doing.

It's really funny how much Matt Law has succeeded in winding everybody up. His numbers are clearly fabricated, we will learn the real numbers in about 6 months time as usual but by then Matt Law will have moved to writing about how we are offering Dybala £2m a week to sign.

Probably been resolved. It's the Mkhi situation that's now being resolved. Raiola and Mkhi will want to squeeze us every penny for moving him to a club he doesn't want.

The only way Sanchez is earning 500k a week on average for the next 4.5 years is if we win the treble every single season with Sanchez getting 50 goals and assists every single season. Wages aren't linear because we, like many other clubs, have strict wages to turnover policy and changes in turnover means changes in wages. There's no way Sanchez (or any other player in our squad) is making the same amount if we win the treble compared to winning nothing and not qualifying for the CL.

When he heard how much Sanchez agent was getting, probably spat out his coffee and asked for double.
Doubt he is getting a 4.5 years contract either. Most likely 3.5 years + us having an option to extend it for another year.

The other thing is that by doing this massive deal for Sanchez, which clearly we can afford, it will start a financial apartheid for the super clubs. A segregation.

The transfer fees and wages are usually bigger than reality at this stage of the process. A few months down the track we will find out about the actual numbers and the T&C to get those numbers.
