King pogba is even better than Eden Hazard, DEli ali, mahrez now. There's no doubt about his ability at all.

First, this isn't Mourinho thread, this is Pogba's.

Second, this can be exactly applied on the other side of the argument so better to not go this route.
What route? The one already taken by Jose fans?

Well thanks for letting everyone know this is Pogba's thread, should have made it clear to the few who for some reason started praising Jose for Pogba's performance.

So many laughed when few said Pogba should be played in 3 to relive some defensive duties and that's how it's working well, especially in big games. Not only him, even Herrera has stepped up and making contributions at both ends.

He has looked better in a 3 but he looked very poor and well off the pace in the first 20 minutes.

We were getting dominated in midfield in the early part of the game and Pogba seem to raise it a level after the bollocking he got from Jose which is probably why he’s getting some of the praise.

In summary, great game from PP. I’ve been very critical of him as we need more from him and sometimes it just looks as though others want it more than him. No complaints today game, great game on balance.

Player plays bad, manager takes all the blame, player plays well, player takes all the credit. You know the ones who do this are far more than those you are mentioning but you want to take a dig, ok.

So when you talk about good performance, you mean good for entire 90 mins with no rough patch at all?

Our midfield will always get dominated in terms of possession and holding the ball, not because of lack of ability but that's how we set up. Don't think we can be harsh on that if that's how it works for Jose and he trusts his methods.

Not sure what you are talking about re bold part, Pogba did well in the first half too.

Well Credit to Jose for setting up team well and nullifying their attack to nothing, so much that they just started to shoot from distance.

You can tell he absolutely thrives in that position in the midfield 3 with Matic and Herrara. It's no coincidence it's the same position and role that made him world class at Juve...

It's the managers job ? POTY....I can only think of the goalkeeper who's had a really good season overall. Not a great reflection on the manager.

As for Pogba....he's crucial to us going forwards, he's the calibration of player that can take us to the next level. There's others too but the manager doesn't like that type of player.

As I said in my original post, I thought he was poor for the first 20 mins and we were getting dominated in midfield, which we shouldn’t have been as we had ample in there.

With regards the bolded point you pulled from my post, Jose went ballistic at him and Herrera, after which we started to win the midfield battle and both Pogba and Herrera started to perform much better.

Bold part is ridiculous. Jose shouting something form touchline which players won't even hear won't make them perform all of a sudden. Sometimes it takes time to get into the game.

If you want to give credit to Jose for this then you can also blame for not making them play like that from first min.

Spurs are very good team, so it's not surprising they started strongly and dominate the midfield. They did same to Juventus, Madrid, Liverpool and many other good teams. Playing 3 doesn't mean we will dominate midfield and dominate the game. That's a completely different argument, at least it gives freedom to our best player and also more players to hold on to the ball and build up play.

You don’t have to hear what he was saying, I couldn’t hear what he was saying but it was obvious he was unhappy with how they were playing and he wanted more from them both!

Whether them picking up their performance is down to Jose getting animated, we’ll never know so no point in debating it, but I was pleased to see the passion from jose and subsequent improvement in their performances.

Back on topic, he played very well, first 20 mins aside.

This is what I expect from him in those big games. A bit of fight and determination, a little less of tricks and more of team play.

The first goal aside, the long passes to Lukaku were exquisite. It looks like Lukaku and him are finding a connection again.

Jose fans

if player plays well - Well done Jose for lighting up fire under player's arse and motivating him
If players under performs - his attitude sucks. He should do lot better.

Win - win for coach, lose - lose for player.
Jose haters

If he plays well, Mourinho doesn’t get any credit

If he under performs, it’s Mourinhos fault

Win win for Pogba, lose lose for Mourinho

You’re not getting my point. When Pogba plays badly, the Anti-Mourinho brigade post endless criticism blaming Mourinho for Pogbas poor form. Yet when Pogba plays well, they hide away and give no retrospective praise for Pogba’s improved form. If they’re going to hold Mourinho personably responsible for everything Pogba does on the pitch they should praise Mourinho for Pogbas recent form.

You can only think of the goalkeeper who’s had a good season? Really? If that’s the case it’s incredible we’ve managed to reach a major cup final and 2nd place with just an in-form goalkeeper

Hopefully, in the same vein, those who were blaming Pogba and not mourinho are now going to log onto the Caf and praise Pogba for performing well with zero input from mourinho?

No?

Yep, exactly. I blamed Pogba for his poor form, and I now am the first to praise him for some top performances recently.

No?

I've always preferred the midfield 3 when it comes to big games like yesterday, but I'm still not convinced about it against weaker opposition. It really requires both Herrera and Pogba to show productive attacking intent, and I don't know if we can expect that consistently. Maybe if we buy a midfielder in the summer we'll have the options for it.

I also think Pogba can play perfectly fine in a 2 if he just applied himself a little more. He seems a bit too set on the player he currently is, rather than thinking about the player he could be. Ok, he has experience in a 3 and it suits him, but you have to show a little adaptability over your career too. In some games we will need the extra attacking player to break a stubborn defense and Pogba has to be willing to sacrifice a little when those times come.

He is unquestionably one of our best players and probably our most important. He's also a very consistent performer and has been since he came to United. I still feel there's another level to the guy though, and one I'm hoping he'll reach.

So why bring mourinho into it? If you were blaming him for poor form before and not the tactics, the fact that he played well is completely on him and nothing to do with mourinho

Really hope it's a sign of things to come. He doesn't need to show off and show boat, just knuckle down, work hard, and keep it simple. The talent is there in spades, he has the ability to control games if he matures and stays focused.

Because I’ve seen countless posts of criticism against Mourinho from posters for Pogba’s poor form, so they “brought Mourinho into it” not me.

All I’m doing is pointing out that if they are going to pin all of Pogba’s form good or bad on Mourinho, then they should be the first to appreciate Mourinho’s contribution for his newly found form(because it’s they who believe Mourinho is completely responsible for Pogba’s form remember). But I won’t hold my breathe.

He can play in midfield 2 but he will not offer defensive contribution anywhere near someone like Herrera can. Our whole set up will be off with non functioning midfield. For me it's better to play midfield 3 and like you said against smaller teams we can play with 2 to add one more attacker.

Would like to see less tricks and more driving runs and simple passes. Did well to win the ball back from Dembele and pick out Sanchez with that inch perfect pass.

I wonder what silly hair cut he’ll have for the for the final

Again you are doing the exact same thing in reverse, you believe the poor form had nothing to do with mourinho so why are you expecting/wanting people to praise Mourinho now? The poor form was down to the player alone right and had nothing to do with the manager. So why expect the manager to get praise?

I’m not talking about what I believe, I’m talking about what the Anti-Mourinho brigade believe. If they post criticism to Mourinho when Pogba’s form is poor, then they believe Mourinho is solely responsible for Pogba’s form. So with that in their minds, they should rightfully praise Mourinho for his good form. But they won’t. I don’t know how many times I should have to post this to you.

Would you like me to post this again if you don’t understand?

If you want me to post what I believe, then it’s that Pogba is mostly responsible for his own form good or bad. I don’t bring Mourinho into the debate either way. But we have a group of Anti Mourinho fans who choose to pass blame on Mourinho whenever possible, yet not fairly justify praise, because they have an agenda.

Why are you making a sweeping statement like this anyway ? Not everyone who wants Mourinho out is that dumb and narrow minded. I don't like him at the club but I have no issue praising him when I feel it's warranted. This is a team's game, no one gets credit alone just as no one gets blamed alone.

My point exactly.

My original post was aimed at a few (not “everyone”) posters that HAVE been literally blaming Mourinho for anything that goes wrong at the club, including Pogba’s poor form.

Played really well today, especially the play where he won the ball from Dembele and assisted Sanchez. Also the through balls to Lukaku were good. I'm seriously disappointed in him about the 1st goal though. It could have been prevented had Pogba put 100% into chasing Eriksen and stopping the cross. Pogba is a seriously fast player at top speed, and it just looked very lazy and bad on him seeing the level of effort he made chasing Eriksen. 8.5/10 performance down to a 7 just because of the lazy effort he made to stop the first goal.

Even if he didn't catch up to Eriksen the pressure of Pogba being right behind Eriksen when he was crossing could have at least put Eriksen off, thus preventing the first goal, thankfully he redeemed himself with that great assist.

Thanks for that. My post was in response to some guy having go at people who doubted Jose.

I'm not one of those agenda posters against Jose. When he sets up well, I praise him and when I disagree with his tactics I post against him.

I always disagreed with how he used Jose, so now I'm happy that he is playing midfield 3. Not because that's what suits Pogba better but because that's gets best out of all players and gives better balance.

Looks like Carrick is having a positive influence. He should listen to him and keep things simple. He's devastatingly good. Just needs to realise how great he looks without all the 'extras'. You can afford some flamboyance after you've got a solid game to back this up.

He's going nowhere. Just needs good direction and he will be fine.

I thought he was excellent yesterday. When he has little defensive responsibilities we clearly get the best out of him which in itself is disappointing. He really should be capable of adding that to his game, His effort to track down eriksen for the goal was poor and you can see why he has frustrated Jose at times. That said he played a big part in the win and when free to play the role he likes he is a joy to watch.

Worked very hard yesterday. Not only did he find it hard in the first 20 or so mins, but so did Herrera.

Spurs are one of the best around at playing in between the lines, and we couldn't come to grips with it.

I felt Pogba did what he could, though, and tracked runners when he needed to.

His quality has never been a question, and the first goal summed him up. Power, strength and vision. Gorgeous ball to set Sanchez up.
