Cause hes good.

When he can get calmed he will show his own football. It's his 4th match with Argentina and the one with tons of pressure though
He's been shite the entire tournament. If his fundamentals fall apart like that in the group stages, can't imagine how he'll handle the pressure of the knockouts.

That's your opinion, in my opinion he was good against Iceland where he gained a Penalty, and decent vs Croatia.

Today he was nervous, which can happen.

Fair enough. Do you think he should be starting against France now?

Anyone but Rashford
Banega and Rojo were Argentina's best players. Unbelievable that they didn't feature vs Croatia.

Which makes you think, why the hell do managers try complicated shit ?
Contractual obligations which limit someone's appearances? Or some shit like that?

I genuinely don't have another explanation for some of the baffling decisions managers make.

Or contractual obligations to force someone to play ? Anything is possible. Like you said some baffling decisions are just too much

How awful was di maria? Seriously pathetic. I know Meza is criticised on here but id be starting him or Pavon against France.

World cup has looked too big a stage for him so far.

I like Pavon though, should get a start next game as France are weak at FB. He's still at Boca isn't he?

Di Maria seems undroppable for Argentina. He rarely seems to produce anything when I watch yet he always plays.

I almost forget that this Argentina team has gone to the final in each of the last 3 tournaments they have been in. 6 finals out of the last 9 cups, all lost. They clearly have some resilience about them but lack the little bit extra.

External pressures from players, higher management? I sometimes wonder just how much influence a national team manager holds for certain countries.
See Mascherano. hes been a liability.

They should make Messi their official manager. It's embarassing for Sampaoli to consult him about substititions.

And some people claim that he is a better manager than Fernando Santos.

The way I see it, you can only claim such a thing if you want to make the Portugal NT only be about Ronaldo... Sampaoli has messied that team up.

It drives me insane. You take your best players and try to put them in the best situations to perform first then build around them. Messi in the middle with zero other creator was a sure way to have 2-3 players negating his impact every game. You put it perfectly the way his role last night was better suited to him

Agree, not sure why they setup like that in the first place.

With all the marketing and media focus on attacking stars everyone seems to forget there are 10 other players in the team.

Or they could just do; Lo Celso CM and Banega CM, Dybala at 10/support striker, Messi RW, Pavon LW. Aguero CF. With good tactics, that's a threat to anyone in the tournament. All those players bar Pavon play at top clubs and are used to winning

That would be a very good lineup offensively. This is why they scare for the upcoming game

Man has lost all authority.
Sampaoli:
You know when Leo came and hugged me, I felt very proud and happy because he knows I am passionate, very passionate every single day,
Also caught asking Messi if he can bring Aguero on.

He really asked Messi should be bring Kun on (I saw the video but can't be sure)? Why he hasn't resigned yet if he has 0 authority?! What a weirdo, didn't he learn anything from Bielsa?

Sampaoli is a joke. The way he talks about Messi, you would think Messi is god. It is so weird. He has zero authority and it feels like he is the puppet. I kind of feel sad for him, the state of him. Grow some balls. He seems to have lost all sense on how to do the basics in football, gung ho approach and complete chaos. He is a shit version of Bielsa.

If only they had a explosive winger to give them width... Oh wait, Sampaoli called Salvio instead of Cervi who made a much better season :D

Mascherano ran after the referee for 60 yards, screaming into his ear all along, acting like a lunatic with blood running down his face. For that reason alone, I want Argentina gone from this tournament as soon as possible. Appalling, and no fecking yellow card!
