He should not be sold. Do we forget how he played against Chelsea too? He is not a right back but a gritty midfield player. He is a very good squad player. He has his usefulness.

Really adds very little these days. Still like the guy and would probably keep him as backup but to be starting games like this you need to bring more to the table.
What more could he bring? Apart from dropping in on goal 2 instead of playing the offside trap he done very well at cb. Better than bailly and lindeloff have played this year

He just doesn't have much to his game apart from being a pain the ass. Not referring to just this game.

He was good early on. Helped to take the pressure off and break the press. Cannot be blamed for screwing up the defensive line as he's not a defender, that one is on the manager.

It was a ridiculous decision to play him in that position.

Highly likely it was to make a very public point to the club and the football world. Rather like that 0-0 at OT in the Moyes season when he refused to pick a striker because Chelsea had denied him funds for another one.

Why was he playing as a cb anyway? Lindelof and Bailly were horrible last week but they still should be picked ahead of Herrera for a centre back spot.

Matic would likely have even been a better option as CB or TFM/Tuanzebe.

Cant really blame him for making mistakes since he has never really played a centre back and he did start the game pretty well...

Can’t believe he didn’t block the 2nd goal. He stood right in front of it and instead of throwing himself to block it he just dangled a pussy leg and it went through him.

My opinion is strong with this one, he should've lowered his body and close any space to shoot rather than close his eyes and put a sub par block. Sigh.

I really like Herrera.

You can’t blame him for tonight. Why on Earth did we play him at CB?
To be honest the 2nd goal could've been prevented if he had more bravery. He just closed his eyes and hoping for the best.

Was really good second half.
Second half, he shouldnt have turned his back on the second goal.

I can see why we tried him at the back compared to Matic. He's better at marking players and sensing danger.

However, one thing he isnt is on the same wavelength as our CBs. And thats why when they pushed for offside he didnt get the memo. A shame because other than that he put in an amazing performance considering he's not a CB. In the first half especially he did really well. But yeah he made a mistake that led to a goal.

Isnt that what all our CBs have done this season? Even Smalling today. So I actually wouldnt rule out using him at CB again like that. But obviously he needs more time in training with the other CBs to develp some chemistry and understanding so it doesnt happen again.

100%. Sickening. In that situation, you put your head, your balls, your body on the line for your mates and he didn't. He didn't fancy it. Mistakes, poor decisions etc are one thing but I can't accept a player not putting his foot through the ball and losing a challenge in that manner.

Lots of gute with zero quality.

Pretty much the state of our teams. The supposed quality players are super arrogant and half arsed, while the average players with no quality have lots of guts. Both aren't good enough.

Good summary.

You can't rate a player off an anomaly of a performance though. He's put in a few very good performances but his standard is rather meek in terms of how impressive it is. He just ends up a kind of filler player a lot of the time. Same with Valencia.

I thought somebody had slipped an E into my drink when I saw where he was playing. Imagine being Lindelof and seeing that your manager has made a central midfielder play as the ball playing CB because he (quite rightly) has no trust in you.

All in all, I think Herrea did quite well tonight considering he was playing totally out of position.

Herrera, Fred, Pogba, Pereira, Matić are all technically sound and have good engine on them, they would thrive in a more attacking, possession based high press system.

He was brought too early back in the team, but at least he got some game time now.

Herrera should be the captain ... the only guy who shows passion for the club when he plays! !

Is he actually injured then? He's got to feel very hard done by to be kept out by Fellaini, McTom and a hasn't settled at all Fred otherwise

One of the few players we have that has the energy/mobility to press well. Would like to see him in a more energetic midfield and get a good run of games.

He has been here long enough to prove he does not have the required quality to succeed. He has energy but no finesse, no real vision to make a killer pass or consistently assist and doesn’t score enough.

Contrary is more truth, except the last two pts but I guess football is all about filling those goals and assists stats..

LVG's and Mou's first seasons are the two time he was given proper consistent runs to show his game, and he performed awesome. It's like ages ago isn't it so let's pretend those didn't happened...

Not his job. He's shown a killer pass at times but doesnt try it very often. He's a combative midfielder, not the creative one. He reads the danger like our other midfielders do not and tracks back with his runners. And he wins the ball more than our other midfielders.

That should be enough for 2 other CMs to be supporting the attacks. If it isnt, thats on them.

I'd like to see him get a few starts. Matic looks spent at the moment, we could use Herreras energy and with Mata in form they play very well together.

Herrera has rarely let us down when he's been match sharp.

In the space of 5 minutes he won the ball back 4 times, one of which should have resulted in a goal. How many times did Matic win it back the entire game? Time for Herrera to start over Matic, we need a DM that's capable of protecting the defense and recycle possession.

Matic was decent today, but yeah, was a superb cameo from Herrera.
