Ole said that we are not going to sign a lot of players and we have to work with the players we have. So I guess he will end up signing 3 or 4 players.

Which world-class players can sign without Champions League?
We don't need to sign WC players, we just need a structure and a style of play. How many WC players do Ajax have and look how well they're doing.

I'd say we went for the wrong stars over the year. Di Maria never wanted United, Falcao was coming back from an ACL and Sanchez was already washed up.
Yep. I think people forget the circumstances involving these failed transfers.

Nail on the head.

First priority is to actually have a tactically identity and style of play that is visibly identifiable and effective. Once were a proper and cohesive football team, results/trophies are at least a possibility. Right now we're chasing results when the foundations aren't even there.

You're right but at the same time many of their players have world class potential. We simply don't have the same amount. What you talked about + very talented players should be our goal

Can we just sign players on their mid 20's, just like when we signed Cantona, Vidic, Evra, Yorke, RvN and Carrick; players who're on the cusp.

I'm sick of us buying these 18-21 y.o. toddlers who have to be babysits, and us to put up with their inconsistencies because they're "another 4 years project"??

True, but that's only 3 players and I think we know who they are.

Think this is the best we can hope for next season, realistically.

It feels like an extremely difficult time to be needing a major squad overhaul, given how utterly hyper-inflated the market is.

For example, I like Declan Rice, but it would cost about 50 million to get him alone! Others have raised very valid concerns that he is nowhere near the sole solution to the midfield problems, plus there is always the risk of splashing out on a youngster with one breakout season to their name - if he can’t make the step up or gets an injury that hampers his development, then suddenly you’re another 50 mill out of pocket and having the same conversations next year.

Even splashing out about 300 mill in one Summer needs to be spent very wisely at the moment. It’s probably only getting 4-5 players of a good quality, so a handful of those being the wrong signings could be catastrophic.

So yeah, realistically, even a slight improvement in results with a more coherent sense of direction and joined-up recruitment policy is probably a good outcome. It’s not where we want to be but it’s a start.

I know FootyGirl, my point was that we could not be able to attract top talents/players.
For example, if we lose De Gea, goalkeepers like Oblak wouldn't be interested in joining us. Same could happen with players like De Ligt, Sancho, among others.

I agree with you that the most important thing is a solid structure and a defined style of play. We don't need WC players, but if we sell Pogba, I would prefer a top player like Eriksen to replace him or a goalscoring midfielder like Fernandes.

IMO we need a proper replacement for Matic, maybe with the style of play you mentioned he can improve, but being honest, I think we already need a new CDM. Also, I would like to give an opportunity for our younger players like Tuanzebe.

I would be happy if we are able to get Wan Bissaka, Van der Beek, Tielemans, Sancho, Felix, etc. But now, I think they would prefer to sign for Juventus, PSG, City. Bayern, Chelsea, etc. if they have the chance.

I hope you are right and our current players could massively improve with a structure and style of play.

Yeah we won 2 trophies in Jose's first season and now look at us.
Not by playing well. It’s a myth

We should have begun beaten by Southampton but for Zlatan

We came within a whisker of losing to Celts Vigo
We beat a very young Ajax side- look where they are now
Following season he got us knocked out by Sevilla in one of the most tumescent UCL games

We lost to Chelsea in the FA cup by playing into their hands

Fact is, we were never that good!
Edit: we lost to Bristol City

Oh bloody hell mate, you'll be saying we didn't deserve to win the treble next cos Bergkamp missed that late pen in the semi, or Bayern hit the woodwork twice in the final.

2 is more than 0.

So what, are you going to say they are not doing well?
We have to wait until the end of the season. Spurs still have a chance and even then the team they will have in the final has a certain player from Argentina who seems pretty good at this football stuff. Also they are level on points in the league with PVS.

If United were to try to do something similar to Ajax, no one on this forum would have the patience for it(Or think that its somehow possible to do in one season). I've mentioned this before but the Ajax love in on here is a clear example of people wanting whatever is the new shiny toy is in world football.

I'm not saying to have a go or anything. As I like everyone else quite like this Ajax team.

We do not, we can see they are doing well and have progressed even if they fail to win a single trophy this season.

Out:
De Gea (contract situation, ill miss him)
Valencia
Young
Jones
Rojo
Darmian
Herrera
Mata
Pogba
Lukaku
Lingard
Alexis

That's not even hyperbole, I'b gladly see the back of those players and it would be for the benefit of the club. Either not good enough or don't have the right attitude. It wont happen, but it should.

In:
Oblak
Wan-Bissaka
Alderweirald
Koulibaly
B. Fernandes
J.Felix
Sancho
Werner

Some of these players are young and might need a little time to adjust but in reality we need time to build anyway, we won't get close to City or Liverpool with 1 window we should be looking for long term stability.

I just want to wake up to a completely different starting 11 in August.
There's worrying press about how we won't make many signings that worry me a little.
Hopefully made up.

I'm comfortable with keeping Jones-Young types in the squad, but we need a big injection into the starting team.

If we don't buy a right back and a right winger this season, it'll be utterly unthinkable, having had the most lopsided attack any top 6 team has ever had.

Which means feck all if they don't win anything. Again the United fans loving this Ajax team can barely stand one trophy less season.

We need a lot more than 5 signings. Dalot and Shaw need to be challenged with someone who can play on either flank. Jones, Smalling and Baily needs to go. Mata, Herrera, Pogba, Martial, Rashford, Lingard, Sanchez, Lukaku, Matic and Young all need to be sold and replaced as well. Rashford for thinking he's bigger than the club. Martial for making Berbatov look so industrious. Pogba for walking around the pitch.

I'm already checking out of next season if we don't recruit in the summer. I can't take it, I've left relationships that weren't this abusive.

Ole said 2-3 at the most is coming in, so some of these lists are just pure fantasy.

Expect Jones, Smalling, Lingard and Mata back next season.

There’s no way any top talent will be interested in joining us at the moment, we would have to pay way over the odds to get any potentially good player.

No UCL next year, yes it has happened before but we had Mourinho which was a big name in football to make it seem we where building an important project for the future. Now we have a no name manager in Ole, no UCL, and are stucked in a continuous crisis.

Why would a top player want to join us?

We’ll sign no more than 3 players and 2 of them will be underwhelming.

No mate, we were a great side that earned victories

We weren’t the better side in the 99 UCL final but it ignores the fact that we were brilliant against a good Inter and Juve side

The Arsenal team we played was outstanding and it could have gone either way. We beat a whole host of PL sides to get to the final and beat Newcastle.
In the league we went toe to toe with a great Arsenal side. We scored 8 against Forest and 6 against Leicester and smashed others. We won in the last day
Did we have a little luck? Yes we did but we still had to play great football along the way and we earned it!

If you are comparing Jose’s first season to 99, man you need a reality check.

We were not playing good football but limped over the line

Mata and Smalling , why not? Still good enough to see through a transition

Mata was the only player who showed intelligence today

This 100%. But is Ole the one to do it? I hope he is but have my doubts.

Smalling is maybe OK as the 3rd or 4th cb but we cannot have the cb pairing of him and Lindelof and expect to be in the Top 4. Plus we simply cannot keep that Jones / Smalling tandem any longer, it has gone on for far too long now.

Mata done OK today but his legs have completely gone now, and he was no means ever quick. We have to move on from the old overpaid galáctico players, and Mata signing a new deal for an even bigger salary isn't an encouraging sign. By all means though, if we lose Herrera and manage by some miracle to sell Lingard and Martial then I'd be happy for him to stay as cover. But he shouldn't be starting many games for a top team now.
