Both have won the last two WCs. England have never won it in their lifetimes and now have a golden generation with the tournament at home where the pitches are tailor made for their strengths. Them being favourites combined with all that and still falling short would be nothing short of hilarious and make them a massive laughing stock, regardless of however many games they have beat Bangladesh Pakistan etc in what looked more like practice matches.
The closest comparison in Brazil in 2014 WC. They weren't even such overwhelming favourites but them failing in their own backyard after all the hype is still one of the funniest things in recent times.
Not like the rival fans wouldn't have absolutely taken the mickey out of India if we hadn't won in 2011 after all the hype and campaigning. We were also on the back of dominating ODIs in a far better era yet it was only the WC win that cemented the status of that team as a great one. Getting your panties in a twist after a few laughs when the favourites lose out to one of the worst and most hopeless teams in the cup is laughable in its own right. "why do people hate us?"
