No idea what you are on about. Not sure where you have seen so much hyping up of India team. You implied England have been amazing in last 4 years. Amazing in setting some ODI batting records but flopping in winning a global tournament at home. Like I said keep wanking to 400+ totals in one off games. Or maybe recruits folks from more non English nation's next time.
One team wins an ICC tournament and so sorry if I don't just care about the ICC tournaments. I of course want England to do well and turn this around but if they don't then as disappointed as I would be about it I wouldn't want to change anything about the 4 years . Most England fans have enjoyed the time and it's been fun watching the team dominate Odi cricket . They are hyped because they are number 1 in the world and they are number 1 because they beat every team over the last few years. In the CT that you keep going on about they won 3 out of 3 before losing to Pakistan so it was hardly a disaster. I have absolutely no idea why England are hated so much . Every media house backs their own country when they do well , have you tried watching any of the Indian channels over the last week ? Australian media has always been full of arrogance but somehow England always get called out the most for it

 India gets majority of the hate on here. Are you scouse? The victim mentality. Jeez.
There is no way you can actually claim that in this thread India have gotten more hatred than England. If anything most of the criticism the Indian team gets is from fans of the Indian team and not really others hating on them

Yeah if they flop, it will be disappointing and a let down yet won’t take away the past 4 years.
Yes it will. No one gives a toss what you do outside of world cups in the ODI format. And I’m an England fan.

No it won’t. It will be a failure for them and a disappointment but the great performances they have had will still stand and the method of cricket can continue. People do care outside of world cups, but it will be a failure not to at least get to the final here.

CT and WC.

Nobody gives a feck about bilaterals. South Africa always used to do well in bilaterals but do feck all in WC and they were counted as chokers or failures.

You can't say you've dominated ODI cricket without winning the WC. I'm sorry but that's the harsh truth. In my mind England were favorites pre tournament but they've been underwhelming in this tournament.

England have been the most consistent side the past 4 years but have they been the best? Only 1 team will win the cup, agreed but a number 1 team should win against some of the worst teams in the cup. India were the number 1 test side for years but hardly won a match on away soil outside the subcontinent. I think Australia are better than England but England have better players.

It's all about how you perform under pressure, Australia 2003, 8 wickets down, 80 odd to get, Bevan n Bichel got them through. I have not seen 1 such performance from England in the last 4 years.

Not interested in getting in pointless back and forth. Most have rooted against Eng because they were the favs. Most will root for most of India opponents too since we are also one of favs. India also gets additional hate because of BCCI and IPL. I would still rather Eng win the WC than Oz but apparenly some Eng fans don't even care about ICC tournaments. :houllier:

I've always had an irrational dislike for England even though I was born here. I can't really explain it even though I've liked quite a few of their players. I also think its because there are so many unlikeable players like Vaughan, Swann, Anderson, and that annoying Broad. I don't really like Root either. Ironically, one of my all time favourite summers was 2005, make of that what you will.

England are good but, to some extent, overrated because of their one dimensional nature. They're flat track bullies, and its no surprise their ODI rise coincides with their test fall.

However, I do like the fact that they've become competitive in ODI cricket because they're incredibly entertaining to watch.

Yep, can't see us winning the tournament after that. But let's see.
Too early to say that. Might sound silly but I still say if they play to their potential they will win it. Their biggest issue that I also mentioned in my previous post is they do not handle the pressure so well. The next 3 games against NZ, India and Aus will be a huge test to bring back their confidence.

No flat wicket and England's amazing batting flops. All the hyperbole around their team is pathetic. They haven't achieved anything yet except some meaningless records on road like pitches. Let them win the cup and then we can measure how ground breaking their team is.
This is a very good point. They have been a victim of their own success. Playing in a road like pitch and dominating but under pressure they just crumble. Also, their bowling is not that great. They would need Roy back quickly or else they could be in trouble.

If England don't win this WC, the last four years are a little pointless. Ultimately, this is what they've worked towards. Plus, does this country have the talent to replicate what is most definitely their most impressive period in the sport?

Classic making shit up , no one said that they don't care about ICC tournaments. It was that we don't care about just ICC tournaments.

Think it's the opposite actually. Both these losses have been sloppy as feck against teams they should have beaten. I think it's complacency, rather than struggling with pressure.

I am sure they will call back Hales now if Roy is ruled out for the tournament. They still have some match winners in their batting line up so on most pitches in this cup they will still be favs but their bowling attack is not top 3 this cup. Not sure they have that one clutch go-to bowler as of now. They are probably hoping Archer will take up that role.

I actually like this england side. Pretty likable blokes and classy batsmen in Root, Bairstow, Roy and Butler. ALthough, i do not rate their bowling I really like seeing Archer bowl. I think the hate comes from seeing their ex players gloat. You look at Vaughan, he and his arrogant taunts can be irritating. Strauss is another one and then you have KP licking english fans a*s by undermining other teams. But if one take those factirs away this England side is pretty likable

England fans do you think it's time to drop Moeen Ali or would you still keep him? Personally I think he should be dropped for one game so that he doesn't make a stupid mistake in the future.

That can be said for every team that doesn't win the WC then , if anything England won the bilateral games . India, Australia and the likes supposedly don't care about bilaterals( I don't believe that) and so if they don't win the WC that's even more pointless

If that's the case then that should be even more frustrating for English supporters. WC is not the place to be complacent. Australia in 2003/2007 were just ruthless. Even India in 2011 were ruthless and the only game they lost against SA was because SA were really good. I still think they don't do that well under pressure. The next 3 games will give a good indication whether they can bounce back. I still have them as favourites.

If it's just complacency, how come England don't get complacent when they spank these two teams regularly outside of tournaments?

Think England are the only team who have put a "project" together with the ultimate aim of having a trophy to show for their work. No other team has shown the same consistency and desire to be the best in the shorter forms. I don't know why anyone in their right mind would dismiss - this is it. The World Cup would cement their place as the best ODI team over the past few years and put them down in the record books.

Its like Liverpool in the league - who gives a flying feck about their form over the last few years if they don't win the league.

But I think this is the best English side to have ever competed in WC and there is a reason they are World no. 1. I don't expect a team playing in a WC knock out match to be complacent so if Eng fail to win the cup would be because they just couldn't handle the pressure.

That's just a strange perception you have. Do you think that Virat Kohli in his peak years hasn't been planning for years on how to win this WC ? I think it's fine to suggest that it's a disaster for England to not win the WC( I disagree with that) but I can see the logic behind it , what I don't agree is that it is somehow less of a disaster for Australia or India to not win it because they don't supposedly care that much ( which is not true at all )

We are swinging our dicks for topping ODI rankings in a era where ODI cricket outside ICC is practically dead? WC is the only achievement in ODIs left worth taking seriously and unless you have proven yourself in that you can count as many pointless series as you want, no one gives a shit.

I think we've been far more committed to test cricket than ODIs. Its not a case of not caring - thats not what I'm saying. Englands run feels like its had a well placed plan to simply batter their opposition with the bat. The rest have just gone along with whatever floats their boats.

Just look at the number of guys we've used between 4-7 - we've no real plan and rely on our quality from 1-3 and bowlers.

If England don't win this World Cup it won't be any water off their backs. For as long as I can remember, the benchmark for progress and success for England was and always will be The Ashes. Just watch the difference in promotion between this world cup and the coming ashes.

Well, duh. If they lose, they'll say that.

Watch the celebrations if they win...

Part of the reason is the fact that England have been an absolute disaster of an ODI side since the forms inception.

Both have won the last two WCs. England have never won it in their lifetimes and now have a golden generation with the tournament at home where the pitches are tailor made for their strengths. Them being favourites combined with all that and still falling short would be nothing short of hilarious and make them a massive laughing stock, regardless of however many games they have beat Bangladesh Pakistan etc in what looked more like practice matches.

The closest comparison in Brazil in 2014 WC. They weren't even such overwhelming favourites but them failing in their own backyard after all the hype is still one of the funniest things in recent times.

Not like the rival fans wouldn't have absolutely taken the mickey out of India if we hadn't won in 2011 after all the hype and campaigning. We were also on the back of dominating ODIs in a far better era yet it was only the WC win that cemented the status of that team as a great one. Getting your panties in a twist after a few laughs when the favourites lose out to one of the worst and most hopeless teams in the cup is laughable in its own right. "why do people hate us?"

?? That's just not true in cricket. If anything cricket is more about international tours than knockout competitions.
Test Cricket yes. Bread and butter of ODI has always been world cups.

Which shows how stupid England have been over the years. Australia would see World Cup as important as Ashes and would treat both equally, if not World Cup higher as it’s a global competition and Ashes comes around every few years against same side.

Most likely to do with Bangladesh player antics few years back and stuff like them publicizing images of Dhoni's severed head etc. They have a habit of winding us up for staying relevant and most of us like watching them fail after all the jumping around (unintentional reference). A bit of Liverpool - Everton kind of relationship. Having said that its nothing but light hearted banter so not sure why it's suddenly disrespectful to have a laugh about other teams losing in a sport.
