I think Morgan has a point

but isn't making a like for like comparison.

The hopefully-triumphant Dutch should take the piss out of America's cultural heritage & see how they get on.
I don't think she has a point at all. She was making a lazy stereotype about her opponents or a political statement. One would be interpreted as disrespectful and the other is against the rules I believe.

Just seems a poor deflection tactic on her part. I do think that the noise around this now outweighs the actual incident but I feel it just adds to the perception that the US side lack class and don't respect their opponents. To me their attitude seems really small time when you consider how they've had a free at the women's game for so long to get themselves to a position of dominance. Their experience and resources vastly outweigh all the teams there so to me they just come across as schoolyard bullies in the way they act.

On your second point, rest assured if the boot was on the other foot and America perceived a slight you just know that the outrage would be tenfold on their part.

Yes, OK. Her response is also quite 'chippy' in itself, a little bit.

Compared to say, ''I didn't intend to cause any offence, I honestly thought it was a harmless joke.''

Perhaps she doesn't like telling lies though, :).

No she hasn't. When Simeone grabs his balls or some player simulates a shooting rifle after a goal, then also people manage to get insulted. She's using a sexist rant for cynical misdirection. We should call it what it is. Can these people do anything without pointing to another gender and whine? Except taking their subsidies that is? It is tiring.

Like most here hoping the dutch can pull off the upset. Preferably in the most gut wrenching controversial way possible.

Frankly she should have just took it on the chin, she did nothing wrong - in my opinion, but in sport people don't like winners who aren't 'sporting' and respectful with it.

As an aside, does she not see all of the criticism that male players get for anything they do?? fecking hell, on the pitch, private life, how they act. how they look - everything is fair game.

maybe in the US they are more respectful and this is her first interaction with England fans

Pretty hard to get excited about the third place play off game. Let's hope they can put the semi-final disappointment behind them and get something from the game this afternoon.

I don’t think the English reaction has been too bad, most newspapers etc took it in good humour whilst some players complained about a lack of respect but that was also tied into other incidents with the US team around the game. There was also their celebrations in the Thailand game. OK Piers Morgan acted like a flange but that’s basically his shtick. Look at how Turkey melted down after that toilet brush incident. I’d wager that the majority of other nations would melt down far more if something similar happened to them, the US included.

Welcome to Manchester reception committee
I always think third place playoff is a bit of a cruel and pointless trick to play on the losing semifinalists. Still, here we are. England have to be favourites, if only because Sweden played 120 minutes on Wednesday night.

Greenwood and McManus start.

I woke up and had a load of messages in my group chat, one was a collection of 12/15 photos of Steph Houghton (I think) and are of a sexual nature. I’m hoping they are fake. I did a quick google and can’t see anything about her being hacked.
Probably fake, not seen nothing on the internet. Swedes will try anything to get an advantage!

Edit: could be anyone, you may just need your eyesight checking

Interesting point that gives an indication of the growth of the game. The 2015 WWC thread finished up with 62 pages of reply. There are currently 98 pages on this one. Could be an increase in forum members though. Still a good indicator I’d say.

Sweden torturing England, England are really bad in third placed ties. Don't seem to give a toss about 3rd place compared to other nations.
