If things don't go well, Ole will play Gomes. We beat Chelsea and drew with Wolves away, it was only natural to continue with the same team. If we lose from Soton, new things will be tried and eventually Gomes will get his chance.
So you are agree now that there is nothing to lose from playing the youngster over a player like Lingard (4 league goals 2 assists) & Mata (3 league goals 2 assists)?

Regarding Sancho, City knew how talented he is, just weren't ready to drop Sterling/Sane and play him. Which is natural too. It's not clear that Sancho at his best would bench Sane if the latter is in form. Sancho was 17 y.o. then and wasn't ready. He needed another year at Dormund before starting to shine properly. It's not like City decided to play a Lingard or a Mata over him.
City decided to spent big & signed Mahrez over him.

I'll admit that I like Mata and find his treatment from some fans on here unfair. I'm no Lingard fan nor I blindly believe in Ole. I think some fans are too harsh on Lingard though. He isn't that bad.
They received very fair treatment. Last season, Lingard (4 league goals 2 assists) & Mata (3 league goals 2 assists). That's just not good enough for an output of attacking mid. If you still think that's not bad then you are in really serious delusional on our players.

I hope he's as promising as those 2 mentioned.
Issue is that Rashford should not be a promised anymore. He MUST delivers and score 20+ goals for United.

We are pretending to be one of the top club in England, he should be treated the same.

Don't care if Gomes is 18/25/27, he just has to perform, and if Ole thinks that he has not the level to impact games when we lose, then he's not ready yet.

Gomes can have the softest touch of ball, he can be very good technically, if he doesn't produced enough in training to show that he deserves a spot more than the mighty Lingard or the Auriverde Pereira, then he's not at their (poor) level yet

So we're just making up stories that he's not good in training now?

This again? Some people seem to think Gomes is setting the world alight in training and setting up goal after goal but Ole is picking Lingard ahead of him cos he sorted him out with a free pair of JLingz sneakers.

Of course none of us really know what's happening in training, however, we know from having followed the game for many years that young players have to show themselves capable when training with the first team to get into the matchday squad.

It's fairly safe to assume that Gomes is demonstrating something in training that is stopping Ole and the staff around him from promoting him to the matchday squad currently. We can only speculate as to what what that is, but given Gomes is only 4ft 7 (last time I checked) it's probably something physical.

Before the fan boys that have never seen him play come chasing me down I will explicitly state that I AM SPECULATING.

So making stuff up then.

Such lazy assumption to just say the only reason a player doesn't play is that they must be poor in training. As you say you have no idea.

Ole can't even see how useless lingard is or how unproductive rashford is at freekicks. Let's not work back from the assumption that Ole is infallible and then try and present it as knowledge of the game.

Whether it's Greenwood, Gomes or Chong, I think they're not ready yet to step up. Greenwood is the closer to get serious minutes now but it's not easy for a kid to play at this level, specially when we need him immediately to be consistent. Ole can be criticized for many things but I like how he is handling these young players.
Europa League and Cup games are coming up, the Premier League is just too much right now.
Agreed. No need to throw them in the deep end and expect a performance yet. Every Prem game is massive and having the likes of Gomes start doesn't do anybody any good.

Does Gomes get shorter every time a muppet posts about him or something? He's about the same height as Mata and maybe even slightly taller than James.

Should definetly be given a chance next match as our attacking midfielder as Lingard looks a bit lost. Its gonna be either him, Mata or Pereira I assume.

When did I say he was poor in training? Might be that he's doing some things incredibly well but other things are a concern? Maybe he's incredible when he has a bit of space and has time to think but when there's others around him he struggles and gets knocked off the ball? Maybe off the ball he's not quite at the level wanted/ needed and this leaves us a man short when doing the high press? Who knows. All I know is, if he was doing everything better than Lingard and Mata on a daily basis he'd be ahead of them.

Stop accusing people of making things up and twisting what they say just because you can't accept the possibility that you're wrong, or you don't like what they're saying.

Why don't you suggest some theories and to why he's not playing (preferably that don't revolve around "JLingz is Ole's pet" or something to that extent)?

Yes.

I can't read Ole's mind to predict why he's thus far omitted Gomes from a role his skillset is so suited to in comparison to Lingard in a 4-2-3-1 which requires a #10. If that system is the way he wants to go, then I'm personally dissapointed he hasn't given Gomes more minutes in the 3 games in the League and over the summer during preseason.

We're struggling to open up the cannon fodder of the EPL because our central players barring Pogba, simply don't have the vision/passing range required for a top club. Hence we're struggling and have been for a few years in that regard. How many times do we have to finish outside of the top 4 to realise that genuine quality is required to propel us forward in the form of craft/guile/vision?

Jesse Lingard wins the ball back due to his amazing work rate they say. But then we do feck all with it because the likes of Lingard are occupying a position on the pitch that also requires to contribute to the attack and alot of moves instead break down because Lingard was unable to find his team mate, passes sideways or backwards or even mis-controls the ball like he displayed on a few occasions against Palace. Who is Jesse Lingards equivalent for Spurs, Liverpool or City? Do they have a player who contributes very little to the attack and still gets lauded for his so called pressing?

We've let the central areas deteriorate to such a extent that we're now in a position to play the likes of Gomes. We don't have the likes of Dybala, Eriksen, Fernandes to play the #10 for us in our current system which is crying out for one. But what we do have is Angel Gomes who is the most natural #10 on our books and has proven to be a much bigger talent than Jesse Lingard when youth/academy games are looked at for comparison.

Gomes needs to be given a chance over the likes of Lingard sooner rather than later IMO. We're aren't asking Gomes to play over a proven world class player. We're asking Gomes to be given a opportunity over a player that has a dreadful attacking output which cannot be ignored any longer.

Is his contract situation part of the reason he’s not involved, or will we see him Saturday? Is there any update on his contract?

We should not expect him to involve at this stage of the season where we're only playing one game a week

Be patience guys, he will soon get involved when the matches are coming thick and fast

Gomes is 5'5" - 5'6" now if transfermarkt are to be believed. Looks to have improved his upper body strength as well. Dan James is about 5'9" -5'10".

There’s no way Daniel James is 5’10”. Jesse Lingard is taller than him and he’s like 5’9”-10”

Dan James and Mata are 5'7 on their tiptoes.

Are people honesly still posting in here?

Why?

Surely you realise we aren't going to see him, right? He'll be leaving in the summer. Ole doesnt fancy him, too risky - he'd rather stick with what he knows, JLingz and Mata.

Just scored a belter. Really don't get it. Chong, Pereira, Lingard, Mata are not better options than this guy.

Better view. I could get on board with Ole's revolution if he gave this kid a chance.

But for whatever reason he just doesn't seem to fancy him.

I'm not usually one to hysterically criticize the management at every turn like most on here, but even I gotta admit it's strange not to have him on the bench tomorrow with Martial missing. Plus it's his birthday tomorrow, it would have been a nice gesture to give him 10 mins at the end if we were winning. It's these little things that go a long way in endearing the manager to the players.

Also, he can play wide left( cutting in) and even at CM, so to see Chong and Garner going with the squad when he hasn't is a bit of a blow as I believe he's a better player than both.

Playing for the U23s tonight. Safe to say he won't even make the bench vs Southampton.
Seriously? With Martial out i fully expected him to be on the bench. He really cant play any worse or offer less than JLingz or Mata. He earned atleast a place on the bench because of his pre season and the lack of form and talent shown by Lingard so far.

feck sake. He is being given 90 minutes here because his proximity to the first team squad has meant he has missed some U-23's football already this year. We are going to need him match fit for EFL games, Europa and League Cup games.

Have a think about the bigger picture and stop fecking moaning.

We need him in league games is why people are moaning.
