I've neither read the original stories nor seen the movie, but I watched the first episode and that made me watch the next one, and so on. At the moment the characters, the acting, the action and the drip drip of backstory are keeping me entertained.

I do fear that it's going to be another Lost or Prison Break, where I got sucked into the mystery and just got more annoyed/bored as the story was revealed - or stretched to fill the available number of episodes.

But, innocent until proven guilty! For the moment I'm enjoying it in its own right, without knowing anything about its roots, the characters, or any back story from the source material.
Thanks
I started watching ep1 and thought wait a minute, it feels like I need to watch the movie to get some references or something

May return to this then

In episode six, what was with the Copper constantly flipping between being a bloke, and then a woman - seriously went over my head, that apart i'm loving it, I think.
She swallowed that bottle of nostalgia pills that trapped her in her grandfathers memories for the entire episode. The cutting between the two was just to remind you.

What did you think was happening when FBI woman and her partner were talking to her?

Little bit late, but This Extraordinary Being is the best piece of TV I’ve seen in a while. Phenomenal episode.

I watched these videos after each episode and it really helped me understand what is going on:

Abar's grand pa.
Google "Abar", then read this:

Haven't the foggiest, i'm deaf as a post at the best of times, and I wish Americans would speak up when they talk.

What  ? Did you watch all the episodes on mute ? It was all pretty straightforward
It might be straight forward if you're reasonably intelligent, i'm obviously not , but saying that, that is the first time in six episodes i've lost the plot which is good for me.

I think this show definitely provides more ‘answers’ than The Leftovers or Lost did, which is often levied as Lindelof’s biggest criticism. The source material must help in that regard — whilst this is blatantly his own rendition, there is still the heart of the comic books at play here. At least, so far... :D

Ooh boy. It's all kicking off now.

Cal being Dr Manhattan was kind of there in plain sight. All the clues thus far (probably missing a couple):

- His explanation on life/death and heaven to the children
- Laurie's consistent references to his attractiveness
- Him asking Laurie 'have we met?' at the funeral
- The child's magnetic castle
- His name; Cal = Kal-El
- The craziest one of all -- a Reddit theory that Laurie's dildo was named Excalibur - Laurie was literally an Ex of Cal Abar...
- His strange disappearance during the flashback in the White Night scene

The next episode is called A God Walks Into A Bar: A God being Dr Manhattan and Abar... I assume it's going to flesh out Cal's/Dr Manhattan's backstory.

It certainly is. Two episodes to go.

Don't get the Kal-El part tbh but the rest makes sense, I shouldn't have read reddit because they figured this after episode 2

Well it definitely moved things on a bit! Still a bit of explaining left to do which should hopefully keep the last couple of episodes interesting

So I'm guessing Veidt is going to end up being lady trieu's father, and the object crashing into earth a few episodes back was her being bringing him back to earth after seeing his help message via the satelitte...but that almost seems too straight forward.

Seems fairly obvious she's up to more than just wanting to stop the seventh cavalry. I'm guessing her mum was killed as some part of the Vietnam conflict and she's out for liberation or some kind of revenge, which would put her at odds with Abar seeing as how her parents were killed by someone looking for the same thing.

Lube guy's motivations remain unclear

Editing my own posts.
Yeah, there were so many things that could’ve gone wrong with that episode (Dr Manhattan falls in love with our main character!!) but just didn’t.

Don’t feck up the last one

There's even some stuff after the credits, in case you miss it!
Cheers!

I still don't get why
Dr. Manhattan didn't just destroy the gun? Nothing stopped him from doing so unless he's not doing it because it already happened?

Obviously must be a reason for that which we'll hopefully find out next week...

I enjoyed the chicken and egg situation with Judd

One of the best ever TV episodes I have ever watched. I thought the Hooded Justice episode was great but this is much better

This post from reddit gives a nice explanation, will put it spoilers for those interested
He said that the moment he fell in love with her was when he tells her she can't save him but she still tries. Maybe he had to do this, in order for her to try to save him and make him fall in love with her. Maybe the only way he can finally feel like a human is to set into motion the chain of events that begins with him getting captured. Like better to love and lost than not to.

To her, getting captured was the last thing he did. To him, maybe it was one of the very first things he did in order to begin a relationship with her. Like the chicken or the egg, what came first? Or maybe another result but the fact is that the teleportation blast was something that had to happen.

My guess is he has a long con going on somehow. We know he spoke to Laurie without his wife there, and he said his wife needed to see him over water for some reason. He cant say so though because of the chicken egg scenario. Bit honestly, who knows. They have littered so many little plots anything could happen

This is just brilliant tv. Cant see a 2nd season though sadly. How do you follow this?
